Last night through Charlbury, Burford, then back along A40 to Oxford. Couldn't get very close to it because of slow Merc driver in front. Once on the dualled section near Witney, test driver put foot down. I was doing 80mph but couldn't catch it. White model with rear end covered up with black plastic/rubber. Reg #OU07 HGN. Read more
The latest car crime in our area is to steal petrol by drilling a hole in the petrol tank. And to think that some people wonder why we put the car away in the garage when it isn't being used.

got out of hand when they then decided just stealing it wasn't enough and that
it would be fun to torch the car by setting fire to the spilt petrol.
This was the last straw for him and he moved house after that.
Oh dear, I thought you were going to say he exacted some delicious revenge on them.. :o(
My grandparents used to live on a fairly rough estate. The local nutter family noticed that my grandad was spending a lot of time repairing his Mk4 Cortina every weekend. So they came round and offered to nick it and torch it for him, in return for a cut of the insurance money.
He commended them on thir ingenuity but politely declined the offer.
When obtaining car insurance quotations, it seems usual practice to be asked the vehicle's value.
However, when it comes to settling a claim, the insurers will only pay out up to the 'market value' of the car - so what's the point me telling them how much I think it's worth? Will they only pay out my declared value if this turns out to be lower than the 'market' value?
Does the vehicle value declared by the proposer actually affect the premium - or is there only a 'ceiling', above which 'special terms' come into play? Read more
Fill up servers? Sorry but you wouldnt be duplicating data - you'd be tracking the changes only.
I am totally anti-conspiracy theory and dont believe any old tripe. It just makes sense to me.
Then you just explain "I'm on my way to the dentist" if you're on your way to the dentist. I'm not implying they wont pay you out, its about the bigger picture.
Of course you'd be paid out if you had to temporarily park your car on the street - you had scaffolding in the way!! You are being legitimate. Its not necessarily about hammering people its about analysing data.
In the insurance game, knowledge is power. The more accurately you can profile your customers the greater the advantage you have over your competitors. Cheap quotes to low risk, pricey to high risk. We're talking millions of pounds here so the maximum accuracy you can get in a risk model then the more money you'll make in the payout vs revenue equation.
Could I suggest (not you personally) that if someone is prepared to lie/bend truth about a small thing they may not think twice about a bigger lie?
My alarm is switched on, light flashing on console. No noise though. Clicking noise when I open door. Alarm switch turned to off under bonnet. Tried pressing button on steering column with ignition switched on but light still flashing and the clicking continues for about 2 minutes, oh and the sidelights flash as well. Any ideas amigos? What are you asking for a fix or do you just want it off so you can start and drive the car? Did the battery go flat? Has the locks stopped working as well? I have had this on Peugeot and Citroens where the fob has packed up and the battery gone flat and the customer don?t want the alarm fixed (main dealer). All you have to do is disconnect the battery then turn the ignition on and with the ignition still on reconnect the battery. You will then be able to start the car and use as before all the locks working.
Hope this helps

Received a letter from Shell Visa (changing from Royal Bank to Citi Bank) in August time.
Part of new Offering to Shell Card Holders is Free Car Legal Cover - I pay nearly £20 for each car so this represents £40 saving - not a lot in running a car but a "fill-up for nothing" beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
I have no connection with Shell/RBS/Citi other than being a customer Read more
The only time I used such a service (it was included free with the car insurance at the time) I not only received considerable help over the phone from a member of the legal team, when the case involving the erring driver came up before the magistrates I had a QC representing me.
I was delighted with the outcome and even more so that it didn't cost a penny.

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
hi,
me and a friend have recently swapped the engine in my 1999t escort from a 1.6 zetec (snapped cambelt, uneconomical repair) to a 1993k 1.8 zetec 105ps (free donor car that ran perfectly) the car runs rough with the original ecu (assumed mapping/lean mixture etc).
the problem we've encountered is that due to the 1.6 ford immobiliser we don't seem to be able to start the car using the original 1.8 ecu, so the question is : when buying a second hand 1996 onwards immobiliser-compatible ecu (ebay seems to have some) will it need to come with any ther kit for the immobiliser (compatible transponder key etc) or can it just be plugged straight in and started. i've searched the web but got no straight answers.
please help as everything went well up to this point. Read more
thanks for the tip, but i'm still not 100% sure whether to
go ahead and get the ecu or not.

fill in the form for what you want and sit back and wait for the phone to ring. When I was struggling for an alternator for the Previa last year I had at least 12 calls within half-an-hour resulting from using this and was able to chose the best price and p&p.
Hello all! Here's hoping someone can suggest something...! I have a 54 plate C3 1.4Hdi 8 valve. The car is totally standard. Mileage stands at 58K, and it is used for 70 mile a day round trip commute, A class road with some fast and some slow sections. I have for some time been having problems with it cutting out - and can occur a couple of times in 35 miles when it does happen. It does it only momentarily as a rule. (It did die completely once and refused to start for a couple of hours). It can go couple of hundred miles between occurances. When it first started I put it down to poor fuel after my local station had changed their tanks. It tends to happen only while driving, can be at just about any speed . It cuts out as if it were "missing" but then clears almost straight away. i dont know if I imagine it but it does seen rough for a second or two after. i haven't yet had time to take it anywhere for codes etc to be read.
Serviced regularly - I changed the fuel filter too just in case...

I wonder if it was one of these I saw on the Fosse Way last week. Didn't catch the number as it was coming towards me and I saw it only fleetingly, and it was so heavily burka'd that I couldn't even tell you the colour. But it was small, which surprised me, since the only covered-up cars we usually see round here are Jaguars and Land Rovers. Quite tall too, I thought, but that's as much of an impression as I could gather in two or three seconds.
