Hi,
Yesterday whilst driving over a poorly resurfaced road in my local area I sustained a numerous stone chips to my windscreen and bonnet due the large amount of loose chippings on the road surface. This was despite travelling at or below the recommended 20 mile an hour speed limit that had been posted.
The car will need a new windscreen and the chips in the paintwork on the bonnet repairing, obviously I feel that the council is liable due to the way that they resurfaced the road.
Has anyone any experince or knowledge of the best way to approach this? or any legal precedent where the council has been made to pay for the rectifying the damage?
Thanks for your help

Hello all,
I have gone and bought a Yaris - came recommended by a work friend.
Filled it up with petrol and drove home, about 50miles, but as we got on the motorway the dreaded engine malfunction indicator light (MIL) came on.
I have had a search of the internet to find possible solutions but appear to be useless without a reader of some kind. One thing I did find was the fuel cap had not been tightened - tightened it but am unsure whether the fault should clear on its own.
Could anybody advise on how to reset this, thought of disconnecting battery but thought there could be an easier way like holding left ear whilst humming the dambusters tune.
Apart from taking the vehicle to dealers could anybody also recommend a fault code reader for my vehicle and so I could find the actual fault causing the MIL to come on. A further question is where the socket is that any possible fault code reading device would be plugged.
Thank-you in advance

If only they'd bought a Ford instead... ;-)

Perhaps however a relevant comparison would be our Clio which is exemplary relative to the Yaris.
I've just bought an A3 2.0 TDi (privately so no guarantee). It is fine except for the fact that the washers and wipers don't work. (Rear washer does work). I have no handbook so although I've found a fuse box next to the drivers door and one next to the battery, I haven't worked out what's wrong.
Any tips on what goes wrong, relays, fuses, column switches?
I may be heading to Halfords tomorrow for a Haynes manual, assuming one is available.
Thanks,
Chris

Had my car serviced 1000 miles ago and was told needed new pads and discs on back. Got a second opinion and was told the pads definitely need done but discs had a bit of life still in them, so I just got pads done at that point.
Cars first MOT is due at end of June but I am currently thinking of trading it in, but it may well be into July before that happens. I obviously don't want to pay the cost of new discs if I am changing it a week later!
So, getting to the point, what is invoved in the MOT with regards to rear brakes? Read more
What !!! and join the riff raff ;-)
Trying to decide whether to get a diesel or petrol, so trying to take everything into account not just the mpg...
With Diesel currently costing the same a petrol, but aprox 1/3 more mpg than a petrol... the only things I can see to differ is the purchase price and servicing.
Purchase price on the cars I am looking at seems to be about £1000 difference, so the main think I need to know about now is servicing...
When companies say 20,000 miles for service intervals, does that mean 20,000 miles OR 1 year, or just 20,000 miles?!?!
Also, is there a difference in the costs of servicing diesel over petrol?
Anything else that I need to consider?

Anything else to consider ?
You need to consider how you intend to use the car (high mileage or town runabout) and how long you intend to keep the car for.
If you're only keeping the car for three years/duration of the manufacturers warranty follow their recommendations as you are the covered for failures by keeping the FSH.
If your intend keeping the car 'til the wheels fall off then service it annually or every 12k max with a 6k oil and filter change. Once out of warranty find a good local spannerman to keep your pride and joy ticking along without main dealer labout rates.
Change fluids regularly (Antifreeze, brake and clutch fluid every two to three years) and with the above oil changes you should get a good ten years out of any car.
Hi
Took delivery of a New Ford Galaxy today. Ford informed me that they had to order an Owners Manual as mine was mislaid !
The rear quarter windows have no handles so I assume they are electric, but I can't find out where the switch is or how to open the darn things. That's where the manual would have come in handy ! ....
Any ideas
Cheers

In conclusion....
After visiting the dealer, I was told that the information in the Brochure was now false.
The idea was for them to open originally, but in order for the car to keep it's Thatcham Category 1 status for security, Ford had to do away with the possibility of opening rear quarter vents.
Shame that....
What ATF [other than Nissan NS1) can I use in the auto cvt box on my 1999 2ltr Primera auto? I had a repair done on it recently [the box] and the company seem to have done an excellent job, but when I asked him had he put NS1 in the box, he told me that what he had put in it he puts in Rolls Royces and that he was sure my Primera would be fine on it. He has given me a 12 month warranty. Just got me thinking...hate being dictated to by maufacturers. If I can put another atf in rather than traipsing up to Nissan all the time it would be marvellous 8-) Read more
Thank you one and all for your informative replies. It is running really smoothly for the mo', but will probably change the atf a couple of times in the coming months. 8-)
I wish to change the gearbox oil in my 3 year old fiat panda. I can't seem to find a drain plug. Does this require a drain via the fill plug?
Any suggestions welcome. Dr S. Read more
IMHO with a FIAT manual gearbox you fill until it just dribbles out of the filler hole when it's standing on level ground.
Thats what meant check the reqired level first,I am not so sure that all Fiat boxes are filled to the filler plug the six speed with atm oil have a specific amount like Renault well below the filler plug thats why they sell dip sticks for them.
Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could have a bit of advice. I have a 52 reg Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi Ghia and recently it has cut out twice due to it over heating. I put some water in the water bottle leading to the radiator and it ran fine for a couple of days. Now for some reason the water bottle is continuously empty but I don't know where the water is going. Also white smoke is coming from the exhaust and the temperature gauge pointer only moves half way up the gauge. I would be grateful for any advice given. Many thanks.

Thanks a lot, I will definitly look into that. I don't want to be paying for the head gasket to be fixed, and it might not be that after all.
Regards
Liz
Is that not standard?
