Question Audi A6 Lights
Peter D

I have recently aquired an Audi A6 1.8T SE 1998 and notice that the dipped beam illumination is quite poor. It is the version with the Spherical Lense dipped beam. I have tried new suprbrite buls bur it made very little different. Is this really had they are. Regards Peter Read more

Aprilia. Is this a strip and clean, the lense that is. or a new light unit. I recall an old colleague had a lense type that had a light blue coating but mine has actually got the original german made blue tinted 55W bulbs. Regards Peter

I have a skoda felicia which i think is misfiring as it is jumping along the road but i am unable to locate and change the plugs. Any ideas if this is the issue and how to find them? Also in attempting to find them i removed the bolts which i think hold the engine together as water started to come out, should these be re-tightened to a specific torque? Read more

Clio 02 quickshift

Sorry for posting a new thread... Just wondered whether anybody knows of a good independent renault mechanic in South East London (near Lewisham, Peckham, Catford, Hither Green, Blackheath etc. etc)

Thanks

Clio 02 quickshift

Dear All,

I have a Clio 02 Quickshift, which seems to have developed a peculiar problem. I live in London and only use the car to go shopping in the weekend. When I take the car to go to the shops it has no problem starting - starts first time. But when I try to start it to go home from the shops it refuses. The engine turns but nothing happens. I have discovered that if I wait till the engine is cold again it will start (first time). I have kept an eye on the engine temp when I drive to the shops but it never exceeds 'normal.'. However, it still only seems to want to start if the engine temp is cold???

I had it serviced recently and asked the independent mechanic. He could find no fault with it and muttered that the quickshift gearbox migh have something to do with it ?!?

I have been advised to take it to a Renault dealer. Called up and found that they charge £104 for a diagnostic alone.

Any advise? Have anybody else had this problem? Although the car is from 2002 it had only done 15.000 miles when I bought it from Cargiant a couple of years ago - and by now, due to very limited use, it has only done 18.000.

Best,

a frustrated Clio owner.

Help - does anyone know the timing settings of a 1.7 diesel Astra van, or know how I can find it out? I have replaced the head gasket of my van, but now the timing is out and it wont start. It is M reg and is a GM engine. Any advice would be appreciated! Read more

You're going to need a Haynes manual, or an Autodata Timing Belts book and a number of special tools - including a dial gauge and special mounting.

This is one of the most difficult engines on which to time the cam. Consider taking [towing] it to someone with the knowledge and correct equipment. Do not turn the engine until the cam is in exact synchronization or you may damage the valves.

Car Phone Warehouse have told me only Bluetooth kits are legal. They say the type which you can buy for a few quid and clip to your shirt etc are illegal now the ban is in force.

Does anyone know if this is true? I've googled for ages and can't find specific guidance on this. Read more

Anyone catch it in today's Observer? (Page 4) Presumably in other press also: Its a voice activated instant messaging system that flashes up a message to other drivers (the example given is "MOVE OVER please") onto the windscreen in mirror text so it can be read in the preceding driver's rear view mirror and it's to be fitted as standard on all 5 series from today. The acronyms are particularly illuminating. If anyone rings for further details of the system, please let me know what the response is...

I would be ineterested to know how many serious enquiries BMW dealers get from thrusting young execs. demanding that this new option be retro-fitted to their shiny 3-series.

On my way to our local tip this morning on a 30mph road near our town centre, I and others were amazed to be overtaken by a prat in a 4x4 doing around double the limit. Transpired that he and family were also on the way to the tip, so after arrival I felt compelled to say: "The limit on xxxx Road is 30mph ..... and there are frequent speed traps."
His high-IQ reply was: "Get a life ...... Get a life."
Suggestions for my response? (Expletive-free of course). Or am I totally out of touch?

especially on Friday and Saturday nights - drunken, violent, spewing mindless idiots.
Thats where Police resources are directed

And aren't a significant proportion of petty crimes committed in order to get money for illegal drugs?

Is the problem that the police do not catch the criminals, or that there are too many 'criminals'? We seem to have a big problem with drunkenness among the young, and drug addiction. The latter might be solved by decriminalisation, or at least prescribing drugs to the sad cases that are addicted.

I'm having some problems with the setting on my xenons fitted with self levelling. Sometimes they are fine but sometimes they point skywards or about 15 feet in front of the car making it dangerous to drive at night. I've tried testing them at home or at the dealer ( always in daylight ) and the angle is fine. Are there known problems with these systems ? the car is a Renault.

A friend has an punto cabriolet which they would like to replace with something newer.
The replacement has to be a 4 or 5 seater.
Can anybody please give me a list of suitable cars.
2 seaters are not suitable as they want to carry back seat passengers.
Also, they are not in a great hurry to change, they are willing to wait until the autumn when cabriolets are less desireable.

Previous shape Astra cabriolet had a good reputation, built by Karmann IIRC.

Don´t think you´ll have much luck finding a 5 seater cabrio.

Give a budget and priorites (looks, driving ´dynamics´, performance, economy etc), that´ll help.
