Hi, my partner is thinking of buying a Volvo V70 because it has a large flat load area when the seats are dropped
and a quey thing is that the front passenger seat folds forward (flat) to make further loading space (eg; planks of wood, pipes etc) Does anyone know of any other make of vehicle that has this feature? thanks, Timmo Read more
Hello everyone,
My 1995 VW Passat 1.8 petrol engine has started interferring with the radio.
Does anyone know where the ignition condenser is? I can't find it!
Also, where is a good place to buy a replacement?
Thanks for you help. Read more
Cambridge
Follow Dox's sound advice; there's no ignition condenser - they disappeared around '75.
Looking to buy a car from a dealer and i asked the question on top of the asking price is there any other charges/fees i should be aware of. The salesman stated that there is a £49 fee which is to be used to see if there is any outstanding finance on my vehicle. Does this sound right? I can't rememeber paying such a fee when i bought my last car.
Also, when i bought i bought my last car, i part-exed and paid the balance in cash, i still have all the invoices, could i not produce these to the dealer to save paying this fee?
And last question!!! The car was first registered in Jun 06, but has covered 15,427, would you buy a car (diesel) with this many miles, or would you walk away? Read more
When I purchased my present car at 8 months old, the the dealer tried to charge me £300 extra for metallic paint. I pointed out to him that the original purchaser had already paid for this, when the car was new, to the supplier and I was not prepared to pay again for it. He made some feeble excuse that his supplier charged him this extra fee on metallic colours and I walked awy. Needless to say he phoned me back the next day and offered to waive the charge, rather than lose a £10,999 sale, so we did the deal.
There was a recent case where the team painting the line down the middle of the road had veered out in order to pass a parked car.

What opera is the new Alfa TV advert from?
It is so intoxicating.
Also, any recommended 'easy' opera for a luddite most welcome.

Driving (motoring link) up to RNCM at end of March to see youngest son in his first opera there. He is in year 1 at RNCM studying Vocal Studies as he is a bass-baritone. I know what you mean about the Queen of the Night arias - excellent driving music (second driving link) to counteract local drum 'n bass boom merchants! We all saw Marraige of Figaro at Covent Garden last year - brilliant production.
OK, a chauffeur leaves the £80k Merc S class with all the kit and caboodle on his drive overnight, ready for an early start next day. In the morning, the car has gone. Has sophisticated anti theft alarm, coded keys, whatever. No one heard a thing. Tracker shows zero, nothing, zilch, da nada!
How did it get stolen? Answers on a postcard please. (PS Chauffeur has the highest personal integrity, absolutely no suspicion attached) Read more

Did a booze run yesterday, and Auchan Calais have their own 5w-40 100% synthetic oil on a special offer of 5 litres plus 2 free extra litres for ?24 or £16.90p.
This works out at ?17.14c for a 5 litre can or £12.07p. Amazing. The offer is not on the shelf but in a display at the front of the shop. Elf synthetic is also on '7 litre offer' as is diesel syntheic.
Given that Tescos is bigger, why can't they do it? Why is their synthetic £9 for 2 litres? Read more
Just out of interest, I use Auchan own-brand 5-40 synthetic in my lawnmower - it gets a hard life and it doesn't burn a drop. I've never been afraid either to use it for the (very rare and tiny) top-ups the Prelude needs.

How often do they need to carry this kind of load - a roof rack on their current car and 10 minutes learning how to tie a timber hitch might be an alternative?
