I have a astra mk3 s reg 1.6 8 valve , lost all coolant out of exspansion tank and heat .on topping up and running the car I noticed alot of pressure building up in the tank.I also took off the oil filler cap here i noticed mayonase on the cap and alot of whiteish smoke coming out of the opening. The oil on the dipstick shows no sign of water just seems on the oil filler cap also when you put your hand over the oil inlet in the rocker cover you seem to feel as though it as a vaccum suction.the engine seems to run ok , but I think the head gasket maybe on its way out.
I would be grateful for any comments or suggestions regarding this problem on my car...... Nigel Read more

Why stop at withdrawing speed cameras .
As they seem to be extremely effective and self-funding in applying ( whether we like it or not) the law, surely we should not start with them but with other less effective enforcement methods, across plocing generally.
A petition to scrap them would provide exactly the evidence that they are working. If they were scrapped because those caught didnt like it, could burglars and muggers create a petition to scrap police patrols on the same grounds?
Here's a good plan- make the "safety partnerships" and the cameras bankrupt by observing the speed limit
I own a 1999 VW Polo TDI estate. The front seats are fine for a couple hours driving but on long journeys I wish they were better. They lack lumbar and thigh support. I recently travelled in a Skoda Fekcia diesel and immediately noticed the seats were far more comfortable. I now want to replace the seats in my car - but which ones are best?
Has anyone any recommendations for replacement seats that will fit straight in to a VW Polo? Read more
I have a Golf mk3 estate and have replaced the CL front seats with GTi model trim, much better', £30 off ebay
Your Polo estate is a Seat Cordoba / Ibiza, I'd have thought the front GTi spec front seats from either would fit the Polo estate
According to an article on the New Scientist website ( www.newscientist.com/blog/environment/ ) junctions with roundabouts produce around 60% less carbon emissions and similar reductions in hydrocarbon emissions than junctions with traffic lights.
I am sure it is too much to hope that the great and the good in government will pay the slightest attention to this though. Read more
Better system than eith lights or roundabouts is the system they use in Canada called a four way stop, absolutley brilliant once you know how they work.
I haven't seen it, but have been offered a "Honda Accord Estate 1995 2.2 auto, leather , air con". Short MOT.
Any ideas whether it's petrol, diesel, juicy, expensive to run, desirable or a lemon? I'm on me uppers! Any

IF it goes wrong then, it's a scapper, just bear that in mind.
So it'll be pennies at that age. £500 tops,
I was told yesterday by a friend who has a pacemaker that someone was about to give him a lift in what he called an 'electric car' (my guess would be Prius or Lexus hybrid, as I can't imagine anyone offering anyone a lift in a GWhiz) when they thought of checking the instruction book (a substantial document, my friend said, laughing) to see whether these vehicles are contra-indicated for pacemaker wearers (or Robocops as we prefer to be known).
It turns out that they are, along with scrapyards, public address loudspeakers, airport metal detectors and military radar installations.
So no ride in a Prius for me then. There are so many in the streets round here that I may be at risk anyway.

or would the costs and hazzards of Lud disposal be worse than keeping him alive? Can we afford to let him die!

Agreed Cheshire. My Benchmark is my old 330d (which is still in the family). The thing has well over a 100k now and drives as it did out of the box, in fact it feels a bit quicker, the interior has worn quite well and still cuts the mustard in the ergonomics dept. In fact it feels and smells as it should iykwim. I remember when I was looking to replace the company 530 I had that someone suggested a Mondeo TDdci !
M5 though - even more so now I think about it.
At one time it was only necessary to exchange names and addresses after an accident but I understand that now the exchange of insurance details is also required. When did this change come about? It must have been relatively recently.

Have a 1998 1.3 which has started to run rough and lose power. Checked spark and found two cylinders no spark at plug.
Tried new plug first then swapped the coil pack, this makes no difference.
Anyone with any ideas, or info on these cars.
