Hi there,
Recently bought a 2001 Xsara with standard fit cd autochanger. The problem I have is that whilst there is power going to the unit (you can put cd's in) it won't play. When you press the button on the head unit nothing happens. As best as I can I have checked the connections, both going into the unit and also into the back of the stereo itself and I have also changed the fuse. In addition to this the steering column mounted remote controls don't work either. The main radio
Any ideas? My wife would love to listen to her cd's and it would give me a quieter life as well!

I see on the BBC business news Ford has finally sold Aston Martin to a UK consortium headed by Dave Richards. Time will tell, but my view is that it will be in safe hands with Dave Richards who currently heads up Pro-drive.
I also understand he is looking at forming an F1 team - I wonder if we will see the Aston badge dressing the front of an F1 car in 2008.
Whilst I am no expert in company valuations I did think it went cheaply at £470M - but I'm sure Ford would have got every last penny they could have. Read more
Aston will have to start manufacturing cars that are more affordable.
..... backers of Dave Richards do not have bottomless pockets regardless of their intentions at the outset.
Oh dear -

Hi,
I have a Ford 6000CD stereo and I need to replace the bulb that illuminates the display. Any ideas how I do it, I've removed the unit and there doesn't appear to be a way to open the unit up. Please don't tell me I need to return it to Ford for replacement?
thanks Read more
Hi, 9 times out of 10 the display on radios is illuminated by soldered LED lights, so unfortunately it would be a Ford dealer job or you could opt for having it repaired at a car stereo repair specialist, and to get a LED for the display would be difficult. The most likely thing that they would do is replace the display on the unit.

Looking to buy a used motor. I currently drive a 52 plate 2.0 TDCI Zetec Ford Mondeo saloon 5 door. I have seen this car:
Ford Mondeo 2.0tdci 130 Titanium X 5dr with these specs:
engine: 1998 cc
gearbox: Manual
colour: Panther black
mileage: 14278
year: 2006
reg: 56
for £12,699.
Is this a good deal? Does anyone know where i can get a better deal? And lastly, i like the TDCi range, but is the Titanium X a better or worse car than the TDCi (wife wants to know which one is more sleeker/faster!).
Hope someone can help!!

I upgraded from an 02 2.0 TDCi 130 Zetec to an 05 ST TDCi last year.
The 2.2 engine is decent upgrade and I've noticed no real difference in fuel economy. The 2.2 is much happier in 6th gear on the motorway when you need to accelerate because there is more torque.
I'd reccomend the ST TDCi over any of the other versions. There is quite a bit more under the skin of the ST than a bodykit and fancy wheels - the steering is different, front track is wider, the suspension is different (springs, dampers, bigger ARB's, different geometry) all of which make the ST a much sharper drive than the standard models.
I actually find the ride on the ST is more comfortable than my old Zetec - it is firm and you can feel the road, but its never jarring or uncomfortable because the damping is absolutely spot on. Other models with 18's tend to be harsh and tramline a lot more than ST due to the suspension differences. Even my Mum loves driving it because in her words "Its a lovely smooth car".
Another factor is that traditionally the ST models have enjoyed better residuals than the standard models.
I own a Peugeot 306 1.9 diesel turbo estate. The problem is I am unable to open the engine bonnet. The cable is still connected at the operating lever. I can only assum that the inner cable has become detatched at the bonnet catch. Anyone had the same problem and can HELP.

Problem solved. Many thanks to qsb and to this site.
Hi,
I purchased a 1998 416i last Monday, and have a question about petrol consumption & MPG.
I filled the tank up (took about £38) last Monday when I drove out the showroom, and one week on, I've done 250 miles and the tank is empty.
Can anyone tell me if this is perfectly normal and put my mind at rest?
I think this is hell of a lot, but conpared to my last car (peugeot 106 1.1) it's probably not bad, but I still work it out to be around 26mpg.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered. Read more
"Have you taken the car out for a good long run yet? I ask because if the car has been sitting around, it will need a good blast to loosen everything up again and clear the cobwebs so to speak."
Check the coolant level, radiator and hoses carefully first and watch the temp guage like a hawk. Been there, got the t-shirt. Get the water pump changed when you have the cambelt done.

Thats a bit of a mouthful ain't it!
Well I am thinking of buying one of these but no nothing about them so if anyone else knows anything, good or bad then please tell me.
Will I be able to get it serviced over here okay and get bits for it? Have heard its a 4wd estate version of a Corolla?
It's a toss up between a Carib and an Mitsubushi RVR so any comments or opinions will be most welcome..... Read more
I am having trouble with the diesel pump on a Renault 19 1.9 d non turbo. The diesel is leaking out of the top of the pump through the return spring. Is it possible to have these repaired. Does anyone have any experience with these pumps.

Thanks screwloose
i was hoping it might be something simple. Had nothing but bad look last week and your response has cheered me up.
Thanks

A 2001 Xsara is going to be multiplexed, its CAN, maybe CAN - VAN or CAN - BUS on these.
Plug it in to a Citroen dealers diag2000 tool & see what it says, also have the BSI & ECU software updated at the same time.
