Hi, my partner is thinking of buying a Volvo V70 because it has a large flat load area when the seats are dropped
and a quey thing is that the front passenger seat folds forward (flat) to make further loading space (eg; planks of wood, pipes etc) Does anyone know of any other make of vehicle that has this feature? thanks, Timmo

VW touran,

BMW and probably the largest the Citroen C5

Renault Scenic/Grand Scenic.
Some Vauxhalls had it as an option for a while, but it is very rare.

To take advantage of a front seat folded fowards implies that the rear seat squab is not standing vertically upright and causing an obstruction. I have no idea about how the other cars listed solve this problem - Perhaps the taller Touran for example allows the rear seat squabs to fold in to the floor? - but the V70 solves it with removable rear seat squabs. I used this feature just a few weeks ago in mine; lift the squab up vertically, press two red plastic tangs, and lift the squab out. Repeat for the other squab. With the front seat folded forwards, the load length is huge and allowed me to transport a pretty mature cherry tree!

The touran solves by having either any combination of the rear seats individually folded flat, tumbled or removed,
With the front passenger seat folded, flat, and two rear seats removed I have carried a passenger and 3 metres of worktop.,
The touran has many faults, but flexibility and sheer cavernous space is not one of them

My Omega estate had a folding front passenger seat, the rear seat folding issue doesn't occur because the vertical part of the rear seat folds on top of the squab. Come to think of it SWMBO's Zafi does it as well, but I'm not sure how that gets round the rear seat issue.

Opening the sun roof on my 940 estate allowed my to transport 4 rather nice weeping willows a few years ago ;)

How often do they need to carry this kind of load - a roof rack on their current car and 10 minutes learning how to tie a timber hitch might be an alternative?
