I would be grateful for any info on replacing a steering rack on a vectra b and what problems could one encounter as i `m led to believe that the sub frame as to be taken out of the way thank`s nige....... Read more
Hello all, this isn't a new problem I know but some reassurance (hopefully) wouldn't go amiss. My dearly beloved somehow, though we've had nought but diesels for the last 5 or so years, managed to put unleaded in our 03 reg Multipla Jtd. She drove until the engine began to miss-fire then called me and asked, "Should I turn it off then?". Anyhow we got it recovered to a garage flushed and re-fuelled all sems well, so my question is this-should I expect premature failiure of the fuel pump as many commontators (inc our beloved Honest John) would have me believe? I leave myself at the mercy of your collective learnings.

in theory it should shorten the life of the pump, but I tend to see 10 cars aweek miss filled going back 10 years & never had one yet come back with a failed pump except a mondeo tdci and they are a little suspect anyway. Most injector cleaners you can by have a lubricant in them ( injector magic made by a company starting with "C" is quite good for that,It would't hurt to run some through.

My daughter showed me her 53 plate Picasso yesterday, and as she or her husband had not discovered how to open the bonnet, nor shown any interest in doing it, I had a look. I could not find a cooling fan for the rad. Am I missing something obvious, but there is a big gap between the radiator and the engine. Is it somewhere else, or what ? Read more
Or turn the aircon on & the cooling fan / fans will burst into life.
German sports car maker Porsche AG Saturday said that it intends to launch a bid for the whole of Volkswagen AG after it has completed raising its stake in Europe's biggest car manufacturer to 31%, from 27.3%.

"What is Porches social role??"
Er, stopping a nasty foreign company from buying VW?
That's its economic role. Its social role is to make us all want Porsches and envy people who have them.
Is the EPS unit on a Corsa B 1.2 16v the same as Corsa 1.0L (3 cyl. version) and would this rectify the problem of extremely light steering to left and much more effort to steer right ? mally 434

its worth checking the alternator output, if on the low side the first thing to stop working is the eps system
I've got a Kenwood head unit fitted to my car. It's about 10 years old and has given perfect service since I have had the car (2 years).
Yesterday whilst driving the right hand set of speakers stopped working as I was listening to the radio. Funny thing is they all work perfectly when listening to a CD. As soon as I put the radio on only the left hand side works.
As the car is a 'bangernomics' run around I really don't want to splash any dosh out for a new unit, but I do like to listen to the radio. It's a tad annoying coming only from one set of speakers.
Any suggestions? I guess it's just down to age and use etc. Seems a shame. Read more
give it a good wack before yee bin it
might knock sense into it
think of it as pioneering
Hi all...
Just to say, I am quite inexperienced with mechanics... as you wll soon tell...
I have a MK1 1.8TD Mondeo, that I'm having problems with.
About a week ago it conked out on me about 10 seconds after starting, and would not restart for about half an hour. Once restarted, it was fine for 2 days.
A few days later it just would not start (after being sat for a weeked). I changed the glow plugs this week, but no joy. It really isn't for starting. I've tried ignition on and off for a few minutes to heat plugs through, but nothing!
Realise it might be the relay, from what I've read. I do get what I assume to be a relay click 15 secs after ignition on...
I don't know which one is the glow plug relay - is it in the fusebox... if so what 'R' number is it???
I've had my multimeter on the plugs... They read 10V (ish) until relay click, then -0.2V after click.
I tried to measure amps... and it read 40A for about 3 seconds, then my meter just read 0, and I can't get a reading anymore... unless I've blown something in the meter ??
All wires look OK... anything else I can do to narrow this down?
Any ideas?
Cheers
Dave.

there is a pipe with a valve in it that runs from the filter housing to the pump, the valve is half way along the pipe ,you could try replacing that pipe, its a well known fault & ford normally keep it in stock. there are a 101 things it could be, early mondeos suffered with a control unit on the front of the pump failing causing the pump to be retarded. has the cam belt jumped a tooth ( quite common) has it got petrol in it!.I have to agree the filter housing is the most common problem with mondeos. Have you tried keeping the primer pumping whilst you are trying to start it?
Not so common & I cant remember whether your pump has one but on most inlets on the diesel pumps there is a microfin filter under the banjo where the inlet goes in! these do block and have to be lifted out very carefully & with utter cleanlyness.
hope this helps with a way to go

Sold my 96P 1.9TDI saloon (90 bhp), base spec but with
alloys, bright red, 145K mile (S/H to 100k), nice & tidy
but nothing exceptional example, for £1850 without any difficulty
Makes me laugh how much folk are prepared to
pay for a diesel.......
Unlike buying new, an older diesel will pay for itself after 3 years compared with the equivilent petrol engined model.
They make a very sound buy if you can twirl your own spanners
A bit of a long winge I'm afraid.
Last night I walked from Dunstable to Luton, and as I was walking along the road, in a residential area with shops and parked cars, I heard a fast car. Looked left and saw a sports car hurtling down the road. To my right a young Asian woman was crossing the street. He slowed in time, but I remember feeling surprisingly frightened and uncomfortable at what I had witnessed. Anyway, the car turned right, and then reappeared at a junction and stopped. So I crossed over the road, and had a work with the driver. He was a young lad, about 20-ish, in a new looking Nissan 350Z. Nice car! I told him that I thought his driving was dangerous. He said his foot slipped. I told him that if he couldn't control the car he shouldn't be in it. I told him it was a public road, and that racing should be on a race track. He was saying sorry all the while. But it was obvious he was showing off to his mates and probably would son forget the minor embarrassment of being 'told off'. I reckon he is too young and foolish to be in such a car. Lord knows how such a young lad comes to be in such a car. I reckon his dad must be rich.
Anyway, I got his registration. Would others here have done anything? Would you report him? An IAM observer told me he would report dangerous driving to the DVLA or the police. To be honest I can't see the point. The police here are over stretched, and probably do not want to hear from a 'busy body' with no other witnesses. Read more
NowWheels, I had some success late last year with a local numpty and his ridiculous 106 (if I knew how to link article I would tell you! Will try and work it out). Our local policeman was very helpful and sympathetic.... they have had numerous complaints about people on the same stretch of road/local car parks.
To be fair, much as it pains me to say it, the noise doesn't bother me that much, it's the driving style.... there is a young bloke near me who has a Sierra Cosworth that's modded, and I am sure he rags it on the open road, but he is the most considerate driver in town, even if he has a rather noisy exhaust! HE and his brother have spent a lot of time and money on this car, not my cup of Darjeeling... but for once I will say "each to their own". : )
Picked up my 407 coupe on thursday. Have to say, although early days, I'm very pleased with it. Looks good in silver with red leather. Fully kitted out with sat nav/phone etc and got £6000 off list. It feels very solid, no creaks or rattles and only positive comments so far. The ride is excellent (although moving from 19" alloys to 17", that's to be expected) and it's very, very quiet inside. Decided against the BMW because of the awful run flat tyres (and there's so many around), Brera came close, but the dealer was truly awful and practicalities won over. The 407 does everything I need it to do and there isn't one parked in every other space.
Now waiting for all the 'but it's a Peugeot' replies!! :) Read more
MLC, nice one! Will be interested to see how you get on with it. I'd always fancied the 406 coupe but family demands have prevented it - but have earmarked the 407 variant as a possibility in years to come.
Certainly hits my Criteria No. 1 = must look good!
