Forum VW Lupo
horatio

I was just looking at my auctionview stored searches, and saw VW Lupo Diesel.

I must have logged it because it has good fuel economy, I clicked it to see, and there is 1 available in Edinburgh soon.

It is 1.4 tdi RHD 2004

I looked it up and it is 64 mpg

I seem to recall a German model which Clarkson said did 94 mpg ? Can anyone tell me which one and why we didn't get the model over here? 94mpg would be less than 100 g/km = Band a** Read more

I'm with Blakes 7. I had the 1.7SDi in a Polo for 9 months and 23k miles in 2003, without even an oil change. Bullet-proof engine.

The Lupo 3L tdi was really hi-tech I recall, tiptronic box, extra thin wheels and glass, lightweight aluminium body etc. and quite pricey. Don't think they ever bothered with a RHD version. It also had a specially-developed 1.2 TDi engine, not the habitual VAG 3-cylinder 1.4tdi of that era.

I had a Lupo 1.0E petrol in 2000 for a couple of years. 100% reliable, frugal, and could still keep up with the traffic on the motorway. In "budget" cars such as these why run to the expense of a larger engine to try and recoup a few mpg?

As people's opinions are being turned against SUV's, I guess it is surprising that there are so many buyers for a car which would seem to be the worst of both worlds - ie appearing to be an SUV, but not.

I do quite fancy the 2L diesel auto with 4WD drive, though its fuel consumption will probably kill that idea. Read more

I would go up to £19K and would have an ex-demo (to save giving more tax to the goverment).

I am not a lover of Renault cars (had bad ones in the past, although did have a good 12 a long time ago !), your comments in earlier post about there being renault bits under the bonnet of the Qashqai cast some doubts in my mind, maybe will have to try the 2.0 diesel version.

There is only me & "the boss" (with occasional 2 grandkids), so I dont want multi row people carriers or 4x4. I have been driving Audi 80's & A4's for 15 years, but they have nothing to interest me now.

Just found there is a screw embedded in one of my bradn new Goodyear Eagles :(
Not best pleased.
Can Y rated tyres be repaired?
Thought I had read somewhere that they couldn't but tyre places online only mention where on the tyre the damage is.
Hoping it can be, or even that the screw hasn't penetrated all the way! Read more

I believe you can have one repair done per tyre, but no more.

Question BMW 320d
Mr_Hanky

Hi

I have a BMW 320d, apparently the turbo doesn't seem to be working well, it comes and goes when it wants to and the kick isn't strong when it does come. No smoke from the exhaust apart from the usual diesel black smoke you get when you put your foot down. Also when because its a manual (136bhp) W reg 2000. when you change gears there's a slight thud you can hear from the back. Not sure if this is normal as I've seen a 523i do the same. Any suggestions please? Any good mechanics?? Someone help!! BMW dealership are complete pants. They haven't got the time or day and if they do then they'll charge £150!!

>_<

Someone please help! Read more

The 150 bhp 320d from Sept 2001 to 2003 are the ones most prone to turbo failures, your one is not the one with common turbo failures

I was more than a little surprised at an illegal manoeuvre that I have not seen before.

This occurred on the A30 roundabout just East of Staines.
This is an unusual roundabout as it has the A30 dual carriageway bi-secting the roundabout, all controlled by traffic lights.
I needed to turn right off the A30 so take the left lane, wait for lights to change and then cover about 90% around to the next lights.
I am now positioned at the front of lane two ( of four) waiting to cross over the A30. I am suddenly aware of a vehicle coming towards me from the right at about 45% probably at about 10mph.
It then did a smart right turn and positioned itself in front of me but of course way over to stop line.
The lights change and he was on his way.
It looked like a regularly executed , (stuff you lot I do not want to be slowed by lights) manouevre by someone who knew the situation well.

It was on a par with driving the wrong way down a road opposite a school just by Kings Cross that I saw several drivers doing.

Beware and be ready for anything!

Strange header I know...
A blue tit has taken to perching on my car's mirror when the car is parked on the drive, and then doing what comes naturally all down the door. It has done it on both sides in succession and keeps coming back.
Any suggestions as to how to get it to go elsewhere? Read more

Put plastic bags over the wing mirrors with some elastic bands to keep them on or buy a bird tables complete with food and see if that deters them.

Hello

Is it safe to place a baby seat on the passenger seat of a 2001 Mondeo. I know that if there isn't enough weight on the seat the airbag won't go off, but is this safe. Any ideas or views are welcome.

Thanks

Quite interested in this. I am an 02 Mondeo and was wondering if there was any way I could get the passenger bag deactivated? Is there any way I could get a switch retro fitted maybe?

Thanks

Hi,
If anyone read my last thread you will know I am new to the site and don't know much about cars, especially my 2001 306hdi, that seems to mystify me allot lately.

Q). Have got a cracked sump and have spoken to Peugeot and they want to charge me £150 for the sump. Then had a look on the net and found a couple of places that do 2nd hand bits for pugs and they've got the sump I need for £50. Is it a good idea to get a secondhand sump or should I spen the extra ton and buy the one from peugeot??
Your thoughts please.

I would go secondhand too!
As Graham said, if the condition is ok you'll be fine. I have a Combo Diesel Van and these are prone to corrosion after stones hit the front and then they leak. A secondhand one of these is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle : 0 (

Two questions about grey-import IS200s (badged Toyota Altezzas)

(A) Quite like the look of theIS200/300 estate, but they are mega-expensive here so thought of grey-import.

But doing an autotrader National search there are no estate Altezzas - were the estates only made for the european market or people just don't bother bringing the imports in ?

(B) The towing limit of even the IS300 is only 1200kg - why so low for a 3.0i car when even a 2.0 mondeo has 1500kg ??

. Is it a transmisson/enngine strength or bodyshell strength issue, or are Ford overoptimistic. Just My sister has a caravan I'd like to borrow, and I think it is 1100kg unladen.... Read more

I used to have an IS200 and enjoyed it.

Google "Lexus Owners Club" and go to the UK IS200 and Imports forums. They'll give you chapter and verse.
