Hi
I have a BMW 320d, apparently the turbo doesn't seem to be working well, it comes and goes when it wants to and the kick isn't strong when it does come. No smoke from the exhaust apart from the usual diesel black smoke you get when you put your foot down. Also when because its a manual (136bhp) W reg 2000. when you change gears there's a slight thud you can hear from the back. Not sure if this is normal as I've seen a 523i do the same. Any suggestions please? Any good mechanics?? Someone help!! BMW dealership are complete pants. They haven't got the time or day and if they do then they'll charge £150!!
>_<
Someone please help!

you could try washing out the air flow meter first with carb cleaner, its a place to start

If you are not happy with the prices charged by your local main dealer, check out the following link for a recommended independent in your area :-

I'm sure I've read on here that there are problems with the turbo on the 320d. A friend of mine had problems with his and had to have the turbo replaced in France.

The thud from the rear is usually the rear axel bushes, if stationary on full lock & you try a swift pull away & this makes the thud worse & it sounds like its under the rear seats change the bushes. Whilst the loss of power could be any number of faults I would wash out the airflow meter as they are prone to getting a film over them that doesn't burn off when it should & the management system misinterperates how much air is going in the engine & thinks your running on light throttle. Hope this helps

The 150 bhp 320d from Sept 2001 to 2003 are the ones most prone to turbo failures, your one is not the one with common turbo failures
