Is there a (legal?) reason why a 'VAT receipt' must be specifically asked for when paying for fuel? I need to keep them for my book-keeping, and have occasionally forgotten one.
Why can't the VAT element be shown on the receipt normally issued? Read more
I'm about to buy a car that is a cat D write off. The damage is merely cosmetic and hardly noticeable. Please let me know if this can be insured and be on the road as it is? Or must the damage be repaired? How can I remove the vehicle from the Cat D classification? Read more
That would be a cat C glowplug - D doesn't need the VIC.
Please help. I have a 2002 Mk4 Golf 1.6SE and have a pond in my near side rear footwell. There is no water anywhere else and I am perplexed. Took it to VW who kindly charged me £80 and said they had looked for one hour and could find nothing. More likely had a cup of tea and charged me for the experience. Their latest suggestion is that I pay them £320 for four hours work and they will have another look. This time they will take the carpet up. I have now cleaned it up twice but this is not very good. I do not have a sunroof, could someone please help me.
{The author of this post has mentioned there was a typo in this message. Just to clarify he meant a 2002 Mk4 Golf, and not a 1992 Mk4 Golf. The error (as you can see) has now been corrected - DD} Read more
Hey mss1tw
Did you sort out your leak? was it the windscreen?
Charles
Hey Charles, no not yet! I need to do the doors first then take yet another look at the pollen filter area. It's not got a rear wash wipe.
I took it to a windscreen place who did some bits with some liquid and an airline, they didn't think that it was the screen. It was £200 odd for a new screen - to much to just try it on a whim, sadly!
I have always beleived that its a manufactures responsibility to supply car parts for 10 years after a car has finished production.
Its come to light that a current manufacture cant supply a part (a panel) for a car that is 6 years out of production. The supplier to the
company allegedly went bust taking all the equipment with them.
The car manufacturer is still going strong, this one part is about the only thing unavailable.
Now I wondered if anyone on here was aware of the law or european directive or whatever that forces a car manufacture to supply parts
and for how long. I am beginning to think its a myth, but if someone knows different could they post the details.

VW van anyone?, not only are spares available 30 years later,
they are cheaper!

Just like my Triumph 2000 from 1964. I have never yet needed a part I couldn't get by next day courier delivery.
Hi,
I need some help on removing an oil cap on a Ford KA2 99 reg (T). This is such a silly issue but I asked everyone I know and to no avail so far!
I am trying to top up my engine oil in my KA, but for life of me cannot remove the oil cap on top of the engine. All my friends, neighbours and my boyfriend has tried but it doesn't seem to want to come off! it has no finger grips so it doesn't look like it should screw off. It looks like it should just lift off, but I have tried levering it but this doesn't work either.
can anyone help me on this daft issue?????
While I'm here, I may as well ask another question that anyone may be able to help me on -
The central locking on my driver side doesn't work currently when unlocking the car (It works fine locking it). The lock doesn;t want to turn round when I try to turn the key, and I'm frightened I will brake the key in the lock if I force it any further, so I have to open the car using the passenger side. Someone has said it sounds like someone has tried to pick the lock and damaged it somehow. Has anyone idea how much it would approximately cost to get it fixed, or even be able to explain what the problem is?

You will see a black and yellow cap above a black breather box with a black tube going down into the rocker cover. There will be hoses attached to it. The whole thing pulls out and in my opinion you cant do much damage by pulling hard.
With central locking, try squirting WD40 into the key hole. I think new barrels are something like £35 plus £15 for adapting it to keys. I would imagine that it takes between 1 and 2 hours to fit.

I would also suggest drilling ,use the largest bit and slowest drill speed you can or even use an old fashioned hand drill cos if you break the drill bit in the hole you will have fun
I did once have success on a similer job by heating a very thin pipe to red hot with a blow lamp and forcing it over the screw by melting its way through the rawplug but it took a while
good luck
Hi,
Considering a used Skoda Fabia or Citroen/Peugeot but unsure on which diesel engine to go for.
I like to do most of my own DIY servicing including timing belts, so any advice on a suitable reliable choice would be very welcome.

I've no idea why people keep posting 'don't get a sdi they're slow etc, I doubt whether most of these people have ever driven one, I have just bought an ex British Gas sdi, and it's fabulous not sluggish at all, it's a van. I had a peugeor partner fot 12 years, and this would leave it standing, they are a great van and very very economical
Hi,
Does anyone know how to change the Pollen Filter on a Vauhall Zafira 1.6 Club ?
It's not mentioned at all in the Drivers manual.
Any thoughts on this would be GREAT !!!
Thanks

The pollen filter is specific to Zafira
Yes, I had forgotten that the Zafira heating system is larger on the Zafira. Also the part no's on the puravent website should have given me a clue.
Still, won't be much more, if any price difference at all to that of the Astra-G - note, if bought from Vauxhall of course ;o)

The following posting has appeared on another website that I frequent. The poster is a genuine Citroen main dealer mechanic who is not prone to spurious postings. Has anybody here seen similar problems???????
Over the last week we have had a spate of oxygen sensors failing causing stalling/flat spot problems. Having enquired around it would appear other dealers in Kent have been experiencing problems and whilst a dealer in south london had no problems by lunchtime, a text later in the day confirmed that 3 had arrived as breakdowns by the afternoon.
It would appear that affected customers are using Morrisons, Asda, Safeway, Tescos & Total garages and have all filled up in the last 7 days.....the fault isnt apparent immediately.
Obviously without testing fuel i am unable to point the finger at the fuel suppliers, but it does seem strange that a component that has been in use for a good many years has suddenly developed a fault that causes them to fail one after the other.
I can only assume that something within the fuel is coating the sensor and stopping it performing as intended.
I do know that fuel samples are being tested, and will post results when known......but until then....be careful, it may cost you £250.
As a final note, this isnt limited to Citroen, i know of another multi franchise dealership that has problems across its product range, and all at the same time.

The problem is that it's now stuck in the garage with 30 litres of this fuel in its tank.
The garage say they can pump it out but can't dispose of it due to strict regulations
so the ball is in our court on bringing cans to put it in! Is this really right?
Are there garages that will pump it out and dispose of it themselves?
>>
A previous thread listed the HSE requirements for dealing with petrol. Not an easy process.
But the advice from an "expert" on the BBC happily recommended "removing" the fuel from your tank.
How and by whom?
I guess any drained petrol would be OK in older vehicles but just try and convince anyone to accept it.
At least the story is changing from " there is nothing wrong with this petrol" and other tests are being made.
Good afternoon everyone,
While filling up at my local BP this morning, I noticed the price of Super Unleaded (or ultimate whatever they call it) was 7 or 8 pence more than standard RON95 a litre.
Just got me wondering, how many of the backroomers actually use Super Unleaded? If so, is because your car demands it, i.e (performance cars, Porsche, Ferrari, BMW M5 etc) or because of extra additives / extra MPG the companys claim you get? Cleaner engine?
Just curious to get peoples opinion on it? I've always thought about putting some in my car but don't think it would be of any benefit?
Thanks

Madf: Is lack of adjustment to varying RON values related only to the Fiesta in question?
same here daiking - we need VAT receipts which show enough VAT paid to at least cover the amount being reclaimed. In a twist of irony this has totally screwed up our mileage claim procedure which was supposed to become paperless from Monday! We are going from a manual system which was easy as you kept the sheet in the car, and handed it in at the end of a period with VAT receipts. Now we need to fill the sheet, enter it onto the computer, get it approved electronically, print it out, get it signed by person who approved it and send with VAT receipts. All in the name of 'efficiency'.
