I've got a 06 plate Astra which has been in the dealers since Saturday for warranty work, they know what the problem is but are waiting for parts. The dealer has been very good so far but vxl are not giving him a date for when the part(s) are due in.

The dealer gave me a loan car straight away which has since been swapped for a better model under the t&C of the warranty, this car has come from a rental company - {edit by DD}. Sadly this must go back this afternoon as it's got dodgy tyres, but that's another story.

So people what on earth can I do to get my car back. I know vxl and the dealer are fulfulling their obligations, but I just want *my* car, not some hire car. I know I should be grateful, which I am, but is fustrating nonetheless.

Any ideas what I can do or if I'm entitled to anything more? Read more

6 days? I dont want to sound harsh but its only been 6 days, thats 5 working days. You have a hire car. Be patient.

Popped into my local petrol station the other day to check the tyre pressures and found they have a new machine for which they have a minimum charge of 50 p for three minutes.

I refused to pay .

I think most people would be hard pressed to check tyre pressures , including the spare in that time and I bridle at paying up to £ 1 or so for a service that is free at other places. I went to local Tescos where air is free

Am I just a tight b....... or do other people agree.

its always a good idea to over inflate the spare cause when you come to use it ,it aint much good if its only got 5 pounds of pressure in it,and you can always let some out if its still over inflated

I would like to see how much power at the wheels my car has.

How much is a typical rolling road session?

And can anybody reccomend any place around sheffield?

Thanks Read more

Result after a bit of tweaking by the way was 102.9 bhp (from 97 bhp when started). Out of 598cc. :-)

Last year we had a disabled parking bay painted outside our house, my wife being a blue badge holder.

At the time, the council advised us never to leave the badge in the car when on our own bay because a) so many blue badges get stolen and b) apparantly the personal disabled bays outside a badge holder's house are advisory only and as such are unenforcable.

Today, a warden employed by the same council gave me a little yellow 40th birthday present on my windscreen for parking in our own bay without the badge in the car...

Right hand and left hand...?!?

Oh well, here goes with the tedious appeals procedure.... Read more

I like that idea of the residential disabled bays being plated
for the use of a specific badge holder only. Maybe
I'll put the idea to them.

I wrote to my local councilor who is number 2 in the council about 2 months ago and that is about as far as Ihave got.

Bit of a double edged sword, though, as it would mean
the badge would have to be left in the car all
the time - which they specifically advise against because of the
high incidence of blue badge theft.

Don't worry about that. Get the Blue Badge Protector. I had my car broken into 3 times before I found this protector. Link further up the page and great for £20.

Maybe the restriction plates could be done to display an authorised
vehicle registration, nominated by the badge holder, in addition to or
instead of the badge number.... Yes, there may be problems
when one changes vehicle or has to use a hire /
courtesy vehicle, but overall....

Too complicated and therefore too expensive. A bit of paint that has the same badge number as yours much easier/simpler

As for the Disabled Bays not being enforceable that is the same in my bourough (but by no means not all) and that was my last line of defence in getting my parking ticket over-turned for parking in the "my" bay outside the house on a Sunday without the badge on display (I did have a valid reason as well).

Hi

Has any one else seen this?
All instruments except rev counter stop working but car continues running ok.
Stopping and restarting the car brings all systems back if only for a short time.
This is on a 2002 Mondeo TDi.

Thanks, very intermittent.

I'm concerned that if I ask the garage to fix it I'll be handing them a blank cheque.

Think I'll wait to see if it corrects itself.

OK I protected my no-claims bonus but then wrote off my car recently. Am I now stuck with this insurer for the next 6 years? I usually shop around every year and play them off against each other, but will I basically now have zero no-claims bonus as far as all the other companies are concerned?

Thanks

I think that whether you can pay an additional premium, and the amount, to protect your NCD depends on the particular insurance company you are with. They all have their own rules/conditions.

Just bought an 03 Almera tino for the wife. There is a tendancy for the car to pull to the left . Ive checked the tyre pressures and swapped the wheels around to no avail. I suspect something is bent/dislodged underneath. Is there any part which I should specifically inspect /change to rectify this problem? Read more

Saltrampen

Check to see if pull to the left happens ALL the time no matter what the wind direction or road camber is like.
Check for any wheel binding when car is on jacks/axle stands. (Brakes / Bearings)
Check for worn springs or shocks on one side.
Does the car sit evenly on a flat section of ground ?
Check wear patterns on wheels to see if tracking is out ...make sure there is even wear across main width of tyre.
Get tracking checked at a good 4 - wheel alignment centre.

If no joy after this:
Book into somewhere that does a full suspension geometry alignment check.
If no joy after that then further suspension inspection and possible steering mechanism (rack) checks maybe required.

Never done it myself but once stopped a "traveller" flatback who had done his with several coats of Dulux gloss and roller. Had to compliment him as it looked immaculate.

Booked him for no tax and defective lights....

Followed a police car through to right turns at T junctions. It failed to indicate on both occasions.

If it was me, I would probably get a fine and some points!

Bang on Westpig. The advanced driver standards are lower as well as far as I'm concerned. You get three or four tries these days. As far as I'm concerned, you've either got it or you ain't!! Four weeks should be enough for the instructors to know!
