I recently took the above vehicle on a test drive and found it much improved on my current Honda CRV Sport (2005) and largely concurred with the tester's
enthusiastic views given in the motoring press and had more or less decided to place an order.

However, by the time I was completing my drive, it was almost dark and on switching on the headlights, I was disappointed to find how poor they were. On dip
the road was lightly illuminated and main beam was not much better.

In contrast, the lighting system on my current CRV is excellent, giving very adequate illumination on dip and providing powerful beams otherwise.

The dealer was non-committal on the subject, as one might expect.

I would be very grateful to learn the opinion of any current owners of the new model 2007 CRV in this regard, please, and from anyone else who might have
an interest or explanation.

I was very interested in placing an order for this car - (See my post above about poor lighting, which I have, incidentally, resolved after a test after dark.
Lighting still not as good as my current 2005 CRV Sport but acceptable).

However, back to your comment about shape, (which I wasn't too keen about from the outset ) but I have been now put off even more by seeing a comment
describing it as looking like a toad. I'm afraid I must agree and I don't think I will be buying after all!!!

Hi all,

I bought an 03 Renault Scenic 1.9cdi (105bhp) from a citroen dealer last june. A few months later the engine developed an intermittent fault (glow plug / electrical fault light comes on, engine loses power, light goes out, power comes back). I took it to Citroen who replaced the glowplugs. Not fixed. Next time Citroen took it to the Renault dealer (next door), who reset the computer. Not fixed.

I have booked it back into Renault myself, as this is what Citroen would have to do, as they do not have a Renault diagnostics computer. So I don?t see the point in Chinese whispers. The car came with a third party warranty when I bought it. They have told me that they will only pay £64 ph for labour, and if it costs more, tough!!? Or is this how third party warranties work? The Renault dealer charges 70 ph, and they want the car for 2 days (for now), so it could get pricey.

Questions: Who?s (legal) responsibility is this? How do I deal with it? Who foots the bill for the extra? Should I be handing it back to the Citroen dealer lock stock and let them sort the whole thing out? They have been pretty decent to date. Diagnostics is normally not included under warranty, but I haven?t been charged for the two visits so far.

Finding it painful having to spend time sorting this on a Saturday night. Particularly as the thread was dumped first time, so I have had to do it twice! Tip: type in word ? save - cut ? paste?

I appreciate your advice.

Thanks all.

Evening all, My wife has just been asking me about Wills and such and she asked about Insurance on Company Business.
I work for the NHS so we have to use our own cars and hence I am a passenger often with my manager.

Where would I stand as a passenger in regards to any accident where I was injured or Killed in regards to my Pension and Life Assurance and would this go to my family still or would the driver have to have passenger liability Insurance or whaterer it's called ?? Read more

Looking at it the other way, should you be in a company vehicle & the driver was using it for PERSONAL reasons, unofficially & in incident occours, I was surprised to find the correct term to be 'on an independent frolic'.

You would then need to claim against the ptentially uninsured driver.

My Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec 03 reg today was suffering from a vibrating steering wheel when doing 70mph.
The rest of the time on other roads it feels fine at lower speeds, but as soon as it hits 70 the steering wheel starts to shake like im driving on rumble strips, as i travel progressively faster the vibration starts affect the rear of the car, i don' t feel particulary safe whilst it happens as i first thought i was having a blow out, but i checked the tyres all round & they look fine.

Any ideas before i take it to the garage on Monday?

I have had some correspondence with Mercedes GB about the excess of engine noise from my B200 CDI, as I've discovered that you can get soundproofing for the underside of the bonnet lid for a steep £117 plus fitting. I also found out that B-classes used as taxis have this as standard.

The letter back (to his credit, the MD himself answered my letter by return - own signature in blue ink!) said that the kit fitted to taxis was to make them quieter externally (e.g. at night in built-up areas) - the implication being that it wouldn't make much difference to the noise level as heard from inside the car.

I would have thought that the recerberation within the engine compartment caused by the lack of soundproofing contrivutes to the noise. Anyone out there who knows about acoustics care to tell me whether I'm right or wrong? Read more

just make sure the aftermarket kit is fitted properly.

I saw a car start to go up in flames in a car park the other week. When the bonnet was forced it was found that the soundproofing on the underside of the bonnet was on fire.

I didnt hang around for the post-mortem so I dont know why it was on fire but I assumed it had sagged down onto the exhaust manifold.

Hi
I drove a BMW 3 series today and the ride felt very hard. The salesman said that run flats make no difference to the ride quality as they now have been improved greatly. Does anyone have any comments to make on this?

Thanks

Anyone here tried the S-max with run-flat tyres? You don't get a spare wheel with any of the options, so it seems as if Ford has designed the car with run-flats in mind, but I wonder if this is borne out in the way it feels. (I've only driven one with standard tyres on 16" wheels; the run-flats are on 17".)

Today I have just travelled 650 miles from the south of france in 4th gear because I lost 5th gear. The problem developed relatively qucikly and I first noticed something was wrong when it crunched a couple of times putting it in 5th. The third time it made a terrible grumbling noise and popped out of gear completly. Is this a new gearbox or could it be something less sinister? As an aside, I think it may have been attributed to locking the wheels several times whilst I was in 5th as the dutch driver in front suddenly decided to slam on his anchors for no apparent reason (think he was lost). Could this be a possible cause as the box was working fine beforehand - no whining, crunching etc..

btw next time i go skiing i'm flying!! Read more

Correct some of the oil will come out when the cover is removed so its best to drain it, the correct oil type is in the owners manual as well as the Haynes book of mysteries & checking the oil level is correct afterwards is simple enough.

Ive no idea of the torque setting for the securing nut im afraid, might be an idea to ask a gearbox specialist that question or to even take a look at it, they would have most likely seen this 406 problem once or twice before.

Hi

my friends citroen Xsara (4 door 1.4 petrol 1999) remote control stopped working..one button (opened or closed.. can't remember) worked but you could hear something rattling around inside.

I offered to have a look inside.. having had some good experience in small circuit board repairs.

The micro switch towards the front of the casing had come off the board. Due to the minute size of the componenet I invested in a 12W soldering so as not to fry any components due to excesive heat. I re-attached the micro switch and tested that it really was in circuit.... further down the circuit board..

Confident off my work.. we tried it out, only to find it didn't work!

There was a reference in the handbook about re-initialising after removing the battery (which I did to protect the circuits whilst soldering.....replaced with new one) This seemed to be simply putting the key in and turning till ignition lights came on and pressing the remote control. We tried that ...but still no go.

I really feel that I did a good job of the soldering... but am now at a loss as where to go now with it..

Any ideas welcome....

I would suggest careful re-examination of your repair to the keyfob. Make sure you have no solder shorts and that the switch is correctly fitted to the pads. If it was working on one button and now it doesn't it would be logical to suspect something has happened to the fob. Check you have assembled the fob correctly and that no buttons are being continually pressed down by the case. The handbook re-initialising method you describe appears to be correct. Do the trafficator lights flash when the fob buttons are pressed?...if they do then the fob is working.

Hope this helps

I bought a 2002 Rover 45 TD (113ps) with 95k on the clock. The service record shows that a brand new engine was fitted at 58k under Rover's warranty. The clock however was left to tick and was not set back to zero, is this common practice? (The HPi check didn't show anything dodgy.)

Also, this car is quiet lazy in the morning before its get hot, is this character of Td cars? (Excuse me for the density but it is my first diesel).
