My Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec 03 reg today was suffering from a vibrating steering wheel when doing 70mph.
The rest of the time on other roads it feels fine at lower speeds, but as soon as it hits 70 the steering wheel starts to shake like im driving on rumble strips, as i travel progressively faster the vibration starts affect the rear of the car, i don' t feel particulary safe whilst it happens as i first thought i was having a blow out, but i checked the tyres all round & they look fine.
Any ideas before i take it to the garage on Monday?

Sounds like a wheel balance weight has come off?
Try a quick trip to tyre fitting specialist first?

I agree with Yorkie. Get the wheels balanced. A balancing problem will normally surface at a certain speed. Put your foot down at 70 and if it is a balance problem it will disappear quickly. A fiver or so for balancing is cheaper than getting nicked for doing 80 mph to get rid of the judder tho ; o )

frazer
And while they're balancing the fronts, get them to jack and spin the rears. There's a small possibility of a delaminating tyre here and that coming apart you can do without.

Took it into a local tyre fitter & they took the front tyres off checked the balancing & he said to me they were way out of balance, mentioned "60-70 out" is that degrees?
