(Thread headline changed to give some indication of what the thread is about)
Right. Deep breath, and I will try and keep the emotion out of this.
I was "lucky" enough to have to drive from Wakefield to Nantwich today, so I thought I'd take the M1 to Barnsley, then the A628 across the moors to Manchester etc... firstly, far from being a desolate moorland road, the 628 is a thinner, more bendy M6. I was generally alarmed at the low standard of driving, especially as it was snowing, and especially from lorry drivers: Polish, Lithuanian and British alike! But anyways... I get to the M60 junction for Stockport and decide to go M60 - M56 - A556. As I am queueing at an uphill bit of road at some traffic lights, I realise I am in the wrong lane. So, I look behind, indicate left, and there's a fairly big gap with a Scania stopped. So, I pull left. Next thing I know, he is RIGHT up behind me, horn on, lights flashing; and wait for this, actually swerving and trying to undertake me. There is a flamin' FOOTPATH to his left! So, I hastily squeeze back into the right hand lane, thinking "nutter". He goes past, and on go the brakes. Out his little tatooed redfaced mush pokes and I am subjected to a barricade of scouse, most of which fortunately I do not understand. I did the age-old backing down face and hand gestures and then he did the thing that annoys me most about lorry drivers (other than being unintelligible, redfaced, dangerous lunatics, obviously). He did that "I am going to show you how hard it is to accelerate" maneouvre... loads of TSSCHHHHing noises from the brakes, and the cab jerks, and the whole dangerous piece of nonsense is shaking like the locomotive that it should be if we lived in a sane, decent, safe country.
Point i) Even if I HAD been in the wrong, why the over-reaction from a supposedly professional driver? ii) why stop if, diddums, it's so difficult to get going again without the theatrics? iii) why scare the general public, and give an even worse image than we already have of these thugs that transport our goods? I have read and re-read on here the apologists for HGV drivers, and I hate to say it, but I do a lot of miles and lorry drivers are by FAR the worst drivers on our roads. Impatient, intolerant, uneducated (jn a Highway Code way, before the hey man, that's classist brigade jump in) and too fixated with profit over safety. And, back to my pet hate, if you want to drive something that's easy to keep going, then don't get a job where you drive a lorry!!! They are, by their innate characteristics, hard to keep going! It's no good getting annoyed about it! Get yourself a job where you drive a car or van if you're that bothered.
Oh, and my last comment. When I finally got onto the M60 and came up behind him, what did he do? As I pulled into the middle lane, he swerved into it, so I had to go into the outside lane. Childish? Oh yes. DId I get his plate, no I couldn't it wasn't safe to do so. Ditto his telephone number.. I thought it was 0151 xxx xxxx {number omited in case it is a genuine one belonging to someone else - DD} but that is an "incorrect number". Maybe I should dial 0151 I AM A MORON. It may go through.
If you're reading this, although I doubt you can read, then think on before pulling a stunt like that again. Next time, someone may get your number properly, or get out and give you a good smack. If you know a transport company with a number close to the one above, please let me know, and someone will be out of a job before their Christmas credit card bill comes through.

My Golf PD130 has developed what sounds like a tappet noise (hot or cold). Had recent VW service which has made it louder! Suspect fresh oil has cleaned things up.
Would an engine flush help, if so with what sort of oil as I know these engines use special PD oil?
Any help greatly appreciated before I start thinking about cylinder head removal! Read more

I'm thinking of getting a new car. I'm quite keen on the new C2 VTS special editions. Does anyone have any experience of the VTS or its special edition 'sister' cars?
Any information provided will be gratefully recieved.

I have the 1.4 HDi and can't fault it - only if I waited for 2 weeks would have then considered the Loeb/Code
Loeb and Code both have the 1.6Petrol engine, IIRC the Code has the 1.4HDi as a option as well
Best regards

Connect 24 Dolmar chainsaws to a 5-speed Harley-Davidson gearbox, and off you go.

I read elsewhere about the top speed being 200 mph, and a 0-60 time of just 5 seconds. Can't find that article though. Read more
I run two Dolmar saws - very good product, reliable, powerful, always start when needed, the last time I used the smaller one it had been in storage for 12 months, It started 3rd or 4th pull.
All the Makita petrol chainsaws are made by Dolmar, as Makita own Dolmar 100%....
Hi,
According to reports on last night's Watchdog, there could be a problem with the catches on Clio Mk2 bonnets. I sat with mounting horror trying to imagine the scenario presented on the programme, namely that at high speeds it is possible for the bonnet to fly open without warning and for it to smash the windscreen and block your front view.
The programme mentioned that Clio drivers could assume that they have fully closed the bonnet, but that the catch can get stuck in the open position.
Is this something I should be concerned about and if so, should I contact renault? Renault refused to acknowledge a link between the many separate incidences of such a situation that had been reported to Watchdog, and furthermore, were not considering a recall.
Any help and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Read more
My advice?
The problems is - 'but that the catch can get stuck in the open position'
On 1 level you could check thoughly that your bonnet has closed properly before stting off, so even if the above problem occured in your car you would not be put in danger.
On another level you need to get renault to act - write off to Which a consumer magazine, Renault themselfs or maybe to the Watchdog program itself.
If you want to mobilse support post about this problem on forums (which you are doing) and get people reading your posts to try one of my 2 above points, or point them towards an online petition?
On other note I have a P reg mark 1 clio. The first time I came to open the bonnet it stumped me since it opened the wrong way. The may have saved me though, I was rumaging about under the bonnet before a long motorway trip and forgot (I left it because I thought I wanted it up again, but could not be bothered to unlock the car agained etc to pull the bonnet release) to close the bonnet all the way, so it just rested in the down position. Anyway I set off on this journey and I get 10 minutes up the motorway before I realise that my bonnet was not shut. Stopped damn quickly after that and closed the bonnet properly

Hello,
I have a 2003 peugeot 406 110 diesel and recently I have been noticing a screech/whine coming from the engine. Seems only to be when the car is warming up but can last for 30 minutes or so.
I have taken it into a garage and been told it is a noisy flywheel - nothing to worry about unless I want to have it replaced for £600 to stop the noise.
My question is .. does this seem correct ?
You get so many opinions that vary and this is an area I don't know anything about.
If anyone can help I would appreciate the information.
Thanks. Read more
Hello
when i purchased my 406 2,0hdi 2001 i had exactly the same problem, its a very commen problem on hdi engines, and is something that i would advise you to get sorted soon.
Basically the fly wheel snapt of the central bolt and stays on but loose, after time it can ware the bolt and come of, causing you considerable damage and expence.
The figure of £600 is very expensive. If you have a haynes manial you can do it yourself for the price of a flywheel.
Hope this answers your question
Hi there, I hope someone can give me an idea of what's wrong with my L reg 405. Replaced battery about 6 weeks ago and has been running fine since then. Worked fine this morning then tried to get back in car this afternoon and there was no power at all.

Unless its a june 1995 onwards 405 you cant call the standard Peugeot security system an immobiliser.
Battery terminals do stretch & lose contact + one fell off on my 1995 405 & the earth terminal is a rubbish screw on job from PSA dark ages.
I cut both terminals off & soldered new heavy duty ones on, that fixed a lot of my electrical gremlins
The double relay on the slam panel is a big favourite for going faulty, next time give it a little tap.
The 3 main big round loom connections behind passeneger side headlamp are another classic PSA piece of rubbish design, terminals spread apart inside & electrical faults then happen.
It will be a case of a dodgy connection somewhere, its just a case of slowly working your way through the system & finding it, good luck.

You don't need opening windows either for MOT.

I was agreeing with Lud's general viewpoints on truck drivers. I have been thinking about your first comment and I have concluded that it was humour. So, I guess a "ho ho" is called for.
