the temp gauge will go up to half but never go
above or below half, while car is running

The purpose of having a thermostat is to keep the coolant temperature substantially constant under normal conditions, so yours is doing exactly what it should. There are conditions under which the temperature may rise above "normal" ~ prolonged idling, sustained high speed, towing, high ambient temperature etc ~ but in general once the coolant has reached "normal" you can expect it to stay there.

Hi, Just bought another older (1991) UK spec 2.4 Previa, it runs well except that it will not maintain a steady throttle until you're up to motorway speeds although even then slight fluctuations can be felt. At idle the revs can be seen to drop sharply away only to quickly rise again. It starts fine and accelerates strongly, in all other respects it runs well for a 15 year old. Anyone any ideas? I have the same problem with my Carina e 2.0. Will probably be the same thing causing the problem though!

Let us know of your progress!

As a result of searching this forum we have cured the slow running problem with our Jazz by having a replacement EGR valve fitted free of charge and outside the 3 year warranty by our Honda dealer.

No doubt many have received good service from Honda....
But my experience is the reason I traded in my 4yrd old Civic ....
It would usually take 2 - 4 visits before they could find a fault, a couple times they didn't have the parts ready
or the worng part was ordered. Once the warranty ran out they were not interested in replacing any item.
Then in the space of 2 months at 49k , the air condenser packed in, rear pads started to lock, Engine started booming at high revs far more than it used to and the wheels started to look out of alignment even though I'd never kerbed them and Handbrake cable boot ripped (possibly when they replaced a faulty wheel bearing earlier in the year, but I could never prove it) .
Yes there are good Hondas and dealers out there but get a bad one (and my case is not unique) and combine it with an indifferent dealer ...the mark loses its reputation with me...
Also from an engineering point of view I doubt whether some aspects of the vehicle design will mean it will as last as long as previous Honda Civic models....eg Engine and mechanical bits have very little protection from the elements underneath of from the side compared to many other cars.

Kia's image is on the up, more so than Hyundai, so resale is likely to be less difficult in years to come anyway.

Strange seeing its the same company. As for the car cheap motoring for five years hope its got the leather trim.

I read with great interest and a commonly viewed response to the Why's and Wherefores of blocking a driveway. I have been searching for weeks now on the net and all law books at my reference library and cannot find the actual National Legislated Law on this subject. if someone knows could they please post. As far as I can gather it goes like this.....

'If a vehicle is visible in the drive the house occupier/owner must pursue the driver through the Local Police or Council for Obstruction..

If a vehicle is not visible then it is lawfully permissible to park.

Reason being is that the owner/occupier does not buy exclusitivity to that part of the highway he only has a right to cross the pavement via the dropped kerbs with a vehicle.

So its confirmation by way of the actual law I require.

Thanks in advance Read more

TPCA used to be when first hit the Statute Book confined to urban areas. However sometime around 60/70's in a Public Health Act it was extended to both rural and urban and is still current.

The first above link is to a disturbing (but not gory) video clip.

The second above link is a source reference (trial details).

The first link depicts an actual head-on collision between a limousine and a car. The limousine chauffeur and his 7-year old girl passenger were killed instantly (the 7-year old girl was decapitated). The car driver survived and has been convicted for murder (possible appeal pending).

The accident was caused by the car driver drunk-driving on the wrong side of the road; the limo chauffeur had no time to do anything to avoid the car.

This story resonated with me because something similar (on a much smaller scale) almost happened to me 2 years ago: I made a post here about it entitled (rather flippantly) "Small earthquake in Chile, no casualties", a pun to emphasise that it was a scary event but I got away with it with nothing worse than a clipped bumper. In my case, the other driver was on the wrong side of the road and had no insurance. The police weren't interested; and it was in the days before I had a flash camera phone (which I could have used to photograph the other car on the wrong side of the road after the accident).

Has anyone got any thoughts on the feasibility of installing grille-mounted (or dashboard-mounted) video cameras? Similar to what the cops use.

Hello due to the great responses I got from my last post I thought I would ask another question.
I have a Saxo 99 spree 4 or 3. Is it possible to put some VTR wheel arches and spoiler on it? Or is it just not the right shape.
I guess if I wanted the spoiler I would have drill holes in myself.

That's interesting. I've only seen two new 159s in my part of France since the launch, one Brera, a couple of 'GT's and virtually no new 147s in recent times.
I'd love a Sportwagon again but it's bad enough trying to find a decent Honda dealer within a reasonable distance, let alone a reliable Alfa dealer. Fiat seems to be playing musical chairs with their network round here.

Had a look on ebay for Vauxhall Corsa SXi's 51-52reg mainly, after looking up & down the list on the site i was horribly suprised to see a lot of them that were for sale were either CAT Ds or damaged repairable etc...
is this due to the fact they're marketed for the boy racer generation or just driven by bad drivers?
