To a point, my suggestion is just what I spouted out with my inital thoughts, APNR is the killer but hey if you are traveling on those roads a lot then let your car get dirty so your number plat is difficult to read, oh sorry officer I had not noticed how bad it was, of course I will wash it he instant I get home ;o)

I am a big fan of APNR equipped poilce cars, but dumb camera sites only target those of us that play by the rules.

The biggest thing for 'chipping' or working around a GPS style road charging system is that every car would need to have one which means that whilst it is technically possible to pull out people who use systems to get around it, the sheer volume of data means that it is not feasible. Also I do drive to my office and home again on the same roads at the same times every day

Statistical outlier

Morning all,

just received my invoice in the post for my Honda i-CTDi's 25k service. On the invoice the mileage is completely wrong (stated as 12928) and they have specified that they have used Castrol Magnatec, not the correct Castrol SLX Fully Synth.

How much fuss should I be making here? I'm expecting them to come back and say that the invoice is wrong, but should I demand that they change the oil again for the correct stuff in any case, as otherwise I'll never be sure they've used the right stuff? Your thoughts please people. Read more

I really think if you are not happy with Honda service you won't like the
service any dealer gives you.

it's the dealership that is servicing the car, not Honda! i wouldn't confuse the two.

there's plenty of bad dealers out there, Honda included.

I've often seen people steering a car at low speed by using the palm of one hand on the face of the rim of the wheel. I've tried it purely out of curiosity but never been able to manage it. Is there a special technique for doing this (not that I want to) or have these drivers got cars that have a high degree of power assistance?

I have an M reg Fiesta that has recently broken down on the motorway. The RAC came out to fix it and said my alternator needed replacing which has been done. The car still won't start, on another call out to the RAC they say it is the lead that connects the alternator to the battery that is corroded. What is this called? I have had a guy look at the car who says it is an HT lead but another guy days it is something different? Basically I need to know if this is a big or small job and can I buy the lead myself? Please help! Read more

The Fiesta alternator output loom is available as a separate part from Ford. It only runs from the alternator to the starter [about 18"] so it shouldn't cost too much. Whichever sort you have [bolt terminal or Europlug] there's an in-line plug for the warning light wire [the blue one] just back from the starter.

Make sure your garage is very careful when undoing the starter connexion bolts; they can corrode and be stiff enough to crack the plastic end-cap on the solenoid.

I am currently casting for the tenth series of the ever popular Channel 4 show "Scrap Heap Challenge".
Filming will start in April and we currently looking for new teams with the technical skills to construct the weird creations our teams are challenged to build each week - think Underwater Cars and Flying machines!
If you are interested in putting a team of three together and applying then please click on the link below which will take you to our website and application form
Teams also need to put together a short video. This needs to demonstrate a few of your technical skills in the construction of a small build, whilst at the same time giving us a chance to see your personalities and how you get on with the rest of your team. The key thing to remember when making this video is to relax and have a bit of fun.
Once you have completed your Application Form (with recent photos) and Video, please send it to me at the address below. Closing dates for applications January 30th 2007.
If you have any questions regarding Scrapheap then please just give me a call or drop me an e-mail. Please pass this e-mail on to any friends or family who might be interested in applying.
Best Wishes
Anne Stone.
