Question Citroen Saxo
Closure

Hello, I have brought this 99 saxo, First one of my normal back light stopped working on the rear drivers side (When I turned my lights on). So I changed the bulb, didnt work. Next day the air bag light started flashing a few days later that problem went.
Now today by cockpit controls dont light up when I have my lights on, well they do but only when I brake..? Confusing. So I went back changed a few bulbs in the drivers side rear lights again, The normal light doesnt work still and now when I break the light doesnt even light up the cockpit like it did.
So now I have no normal light at the back and my cockpit controls now dont light up, So I cant see one what speed im going etc.
I have come to the thought that it is a bad connection in the back lights that is breaking a connection to the other lights.

Any idea's? Read more

1985 saab 900 2l - Will not go into 5th, even with the engine off.

Forgive my non-technical description, I know I'm paraphrasing when describing things which have their own proper names.....

Trusted independant has had a look at it today, if the bolt on the rod that comes through to the box (i.e. the bolt that holds the inner rod and outer rod together) is loosened, then it will go into 5th.... but when its tightened in this position it won't go into 1st or reverse. Thinking trial and error would succeed in the end, kept trying, with the rods in different positions, couldnt get 5th and 1st/rev to work at the same time.....

So basically I'm taking it back again tomorrow, to have a look at and under the 'globe' that is under the lever itself, take that off and see if theres anything amiss there. I've been told that it will only go back in one way, so no great danger of messing it up completely, but was getting too close to the end of the day for him to dismantle it then.

Does anyone have any ideas about what to look for or has anyone come accross a similar fault.... Incidentally reverse has always been ok, there is a bit of looseness when its in 1st, but no clunking or grinding at all in any of the working gears.

update:

too busy yesterday to have another go, but tried adjusting the stud today. Initially it was 24mm with the extra lip underneat, 22 without -- so potentially within spec.... Then tried shortening it to 22 with 20 w/o -- didn't work.

Then dismantled the whole thing and reattached the reverse pin and stud, still the same (greased it all :) ). Really stuck now. Got a price list of parts from north city saab, chigwell -- a new stick, pin + brushings is about 50 odd which is obv worth it if its definitely going to work, but no guarantee it will (so prob worth ringing around to see if any scrappies have got a 900).... Time for a drink

I currently own a Peugeot 306 Meridian 1.8 16v which will not start.
A local mechanic has looked at it and says all valves have lost compression and he needs to take some of the engine apart to find the cause. This alone is going to cost £200 to £300.

Could anyone give me advice on a likely cause and costs? Read more

Spotted at lunchtime:

Mk III Capri 1.6, red with a white Starsky & Hutch stripe. This car is wrong on so many levels but somehow is glorious because of it... In these days of antiseptic cars, sterile politics and numbing taxes we need a little escapism in our lives.

Or a 280 Brooklands. Yum!
I think both the Capri and the Manta still look fantastic.

i'd go along with an RS 3.1

Need to get a couple of smallish steel parts stripped and recoated (the original powder coat is starting to bubble). Is there an easy-ish way I can remove it before dropping the parts off at the coaters? Read more

Chris M

I don't know whether all powder coating is the same, but a few years back we had some bathroom taps that were white and the coating was chipped. I replaced the taps for chrome, but couldn't get the bath handles. Ordinary paint stripper worked fine and only took a few minutes to work. The handles were chrome underneath.

Hi all, the PAS fluid reservoir is scummed up on the inside with what i can only describe as carbonised PAS fluid, so much so that I can't check the level without shining a torch behind it. What is the best product to clean it with? I only intend to empty the reservoir and unclip it to clean it, not flush the whole system.

I suppose taking the top off and checking the level correctly is a little to hard to do.
