Hello good folk,
Don't know if anyone can help. I have a Mondeo estate MK2. The central locking works on everything but the tailgate. In the mark one this was always the case but they got round this by providing an opening lever by the driver's door - not so in the MK2. Have Ford deliberately built-in this as a design feature on the MK2 or is the tailgate lock merely jammed. It will open with the key only.
As always, responses are welcomed! Thanks to you. Read more

Thanks .... first suggestion didn't work ... so I'll start dismantling panels! Appreciated, as ever!

No FM2R

Anybody know how to switch the temperature delay between centigrade and farenheit. I didn't even know you could, until I saw someone had changed one.

I can't find any instructions, but anyway, you know how it goes -> no_fm2r. Read more

On the VW Passat '97- '05 and '05 onwards with climate (or indeed any VW with climate) press the hot and cold buttons simutainiously.

Different car I know but maybe of some use to VW owners.

IIRC this applies to Audis with climate too.

Hi,

Hopefully someone can offer me some advice on this. I recently bought a mondeo zetec (05, 23k miles) and noticed a tendency (albeit slight) for the car to drift to the left. I have had the tracking done, which improved it slightly.
Car is on standard 16" alloys, with newish (2-3k miles) kumho tyres fitted. Tyre pressures are correct.

Is this a normal attribute of the car? Btw, the power steering feels heavier than my previous Leon tdi - is this another characteristic?

I asked the guy who did the tracking whether there appeared to be any suspension damage to the car - everything looked fine according to him.

Your responses are appreciated.

Got the tyre place to swap the front and back wheels this morning - guess what - it sorted out the problem!
I'll be glad when these tyres are worn down - by that time I might be able to afford to replace them for something decent.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

My 1999 Mondeo was a great car, but the troubles with the central locking playing up were one of the reasons for getting rid of it.

Given John's advice, it seems to me that the petrol engines are the ones to go for, and the two smaller ones, 200 and 230, are much more frugal on juice and likely to avoid future swinging taxes.
Anyone have a view on which of these Kompressor engines are the better bet?

I hear poor reports of the CLK, and it's quite a big car, which I don't want. The Coupe however has two decent rear seats and a decent boot in less space I reckon. It's certainly a more practical choice than the cut-off BMW1 which has a boot like a MINI.

According to my renewal reminder it's illegal to keep a vehicle on a public road without valid insurance.

I need a new cat on a Peugeot 1.1 LX 1999. The websites who sell these show the model to be 90538
which I believe is manufactured by B&M. However the 90538 can come with a lambda sensor fitted after the cat
for use on 1.4 (yes onepoint4) with on board diagnostic facility which requires 2 sensors, one before the cat and one after. So there is the potential to get a cat for 1.1 with a 'hole' for fitting a sensor which isn't there. Anyone know who B&M are so I can get a proper story or how I ensure I get the right cat in the first place?..................and yes some website retailers are distinctly unhelpful, BuyPartsBy? I have a 94 model Sri 16V Ecotec, that has covered 85K miles and has full Vaux S/H, last service at 79K (inc new water pump & cam belt). It hasn't been used much in the last few years but after recently starting it up I noticed the top end is very noisy, sounds a bit like a diesel! I have changed the oil & filter (Sae 15/40) but this has made little difference. The engine mgmt light also sometime comes on when first started, but by quickly flicking the ignition off/on it goes away. I have shorted out the pins on the diag plug but no fault code shows up according to the flashing mgmt light sequence. I assume that there might be a problem with the hydraulic tappets, is this a common fault, is it a big job, is the mgmt light related, does it really matter???. The car goes fine and accelerates well, it's just that I am about to sell it, so want to make sure I can make it as tip top as possible Read more

>>Bottom line is will the tapping tappets(!) be of any concern, or do I just leave it as it is and let buyer beware

Well I'm a serial old Vauxhall buyer, and no, I wouldn't personally be put off by noisy tappets on a car over 10 years old. It's not like it's going to be a massive financial commitment that will be hanging over my head for years if it turns out ot be a lemon. Of course it may well prove to be a bargaining point for a potentail buyer to haggle the price down....
