I have a 306 hdi (y reg) which recently makes a high pitched squeeky sound from behind the dash (passenger side) Kind of sounds like a belt squeeking or has been described as a 'cricket'
I think its related to the fans becasue if i increase/decrease the fan speed it goes off for a while.
is there something that can stop this without taking the dash off etc?
thanks

My wife's Scenic, just over 3 years old with 24k on the clock, the majority shortish journeys.
Goes in for a service, with squeaky brakes - result new front disks and brakes down to 80%.
Should they be safe for another year, or better safe than sorry and change them?? Read more
According to his profile, this thread was his last post, maybe you being a bit unfair?

where wotspur was the o.p. .
my comment was meant only to go on falkirk bairn's thread regarding distance selling regs.
Anyone got a new shape BMW 330d Manual??
Mine has had a flat spot at 1000rpm in 2nd gear since new, and the garage cannot trace it. I know 1000rom is very low, but its just at that speed when you are in a car park, or a rolling start from a roundabout 10-15mph.
Its most evident when planting your foot from a roundabout, it pulls, then almost stops, before accelerating. Its so bad at times that recently I tried it with a 1500kg trailer on the back. it pulled from 600rpm idle to just below 1000rpm, then wouldn't pull through it. I dipped the clutch and tried again, this time it worked....
It only does it in 2nd. 1st is too low, 3rd it isn't noticable.

Seems like an obvious application of technology - if they do exist already, never having seen such a thing myself, how do they work, and if not, how might they?
I'm imagining some vertically mounted thing over the road that looks for clear space between vehicles. Needs some intelligence to differentiate between something on tow and the next vehicle vehicle, but that doesn't seem insurmountable.
£60 fine if too close twice in a row over 100 yards or something perhaps?
If such a thing happened, would you be pro or anti, and would that be the same as your view on Those Other Cameras?
I think I'd be pro.

Where is Cool Hand Luke when we need him?
My son is buying a car from a well known car supermarket. He takes del this Friday.
If you buy on the phone/internet you have increased powers to reject the goods as a private citizen - this applies to purchases whatever they are - Computers / TVs etc - so all in all you have more power of the law to reject goods.
Out of interest this mrning I looked at the T&Cs of this supermarket chain.
Their consitions of sale - NO 1 on the list - although the company sells over the phone/internet - the Distance Purchasing rights do not apply!!
Surely this is unfair contract terms applies as a company cannot just cannot opt out of the law on one hand.
On the other this company uses EU regs on car manufacturers and import cars from wherever - undercutting UK based companies.
Have we any BR lawyers about? Read more

" Cars and other vehicles sold by distance means Guidance on compliance May 2005 "
The answer Falkirk Bairn is on page 22 of the link provided by Dalglish. It appears that the seller cannot exclude Distance Selling Regulations.

I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say.
Can anyone advise on this issue?
My 2001 Dispatch van (AKA Scudo / Expert) has a blower fan with a mind of its own. When I first got the van it did work, but toook some playing with the speed control knob, and sometimes made a pretty anoying wining noise.
Recently it gave up for about 2 weeks, then worked again for a day. Now it doesn't work again. I removed the control facia and cleaned the contacts, I also tried to bypass the PCB to see if it was a switch issue or a fan issue, but without a manual, its not easy to see which contact to use.
Is this a common issue on these vans, and what is the likely cause? there appears to be a few blower fan issues on the net regarding the car versions (i.e, Synergie, 806 etc), and blower fans for sale, but I dont want to start taking the dash apart if there is an easy test.
Cheers.....

Was given a penalty notice by Scarborough Borough Council for parking on the cliff tops at Filey without displaying a ticket. A valid ticket was actually on the centre console having been blown off the windscreen. I know the offence was for not displaying.
I wrote a letter explaining this politely, sending the ticket, and was pleased to get a letter letting me off.
Now, 5 months later I?ve had another letter demanding an increased penalty as I?ve not paid.
I fear that I have thrown out the original reply. I?ve written to them again to plead for them to search for the original correspondence. Fingers crossed.

I'm not sure if I'm opening a pandoras box here but why is it that for some people nit picking seems to be the only reason they are here. Just for clarity it's not related to a posting I've made just an observation. Seems almost like they want to provoke other members.

Talking of nit picking, as this is not motoring related, I'm locking it.
DD.
The failure of a starter motor on a friends A class has inspired (?) this question. To have this fixed the engine must be dropped to enable access thus leading to a large bill.
I'm sure I read somewhere that to change half the 'plugs on a certain model of Japanese sports car requires the engine to be dropped.
How many other 'stupid designs' can members think of or know of or dealt with?

Removal of a Mini/1100 engine was quite easy.. only a few bits to be undone.. Not many wires either. Compared to modern cars, much less complex.. but more prone to failure of course...

I once had a noise like an angry wasp apparently coming from a fan or air duct. After a lot of WD40, and dismantling, I found ---- an angry wasp.
