Good day all, hopefully one of the backroomers can give me some info ...
A young man from the colonies works in Britain.
Last year, the day police stopped him, and he had provided a roadside breath test which had a reading of more than twice the legal limit. But, the bench heard, he would not give a second specimen later at the police station.
He has now been caught driving while disqualified, and obviously no insurance.
What sort of punishment could he expect? best and worst case scenarios, please.

Anyone know when the TDi PD engine were introduced? Would a 1.9 TDI 115 6 speed, 2000 registered (W Reg) be a PD Diesel engine.

The car need to be economical, cheap to run and reliable, since I'm doing 15K miles a year on the moterway. Hence I posted another message regarding to a C2.
Does anyone know anything about importing from the EU or wherever really, looking to buy a Focus ST2 in the tango colour.. but i am not having much joy in getting a descent price or a realistic delivery date in the UK.
Had one on order with a few options added from the brokers at carfile, but after 4 weeks the dealer pulled out apparently, because he could no longer supply the car at the agreed price.
Is it still worth while importing from the continent, as there used to be alot of talk regarding this subject approx 3 yrs ago, but it seems to have died a death??
Can anyone pass some light on this subject....
Regards

The main reason is a 15% shift in the Euro exchange rate from 1.60-1.65 down to 1.45 or less.
Of course UK dealers will tell you it was their "price cuts" that made importing less popular but it's simply a function of exchange rates.
Denmark will still be fairly cheap but probably not worth the cost of an extra years warranty (Euro cars 2, UK cars 3) or the pressure on resale as people tend to do with "imports".
A quick look at the PDI stamp of any service book will confirm the origins of the car.
I have to take a trip to Penzance on Monday, back Tuesday for work from here in Chesham. A30 route seems best most of the way but am tempted to go M4, M5 to Exeter and then pick it up a bit later. Anyone suggest what is best ... also any good eateries on the way?
Cheers, Yoby. Read more
Well, just to report back (if anyone is interested!) that it took me exactly 5 hours to get down to Penzance on Monday afternoon and 5 hours to drive back from Land's End Airport (well its an airfield really!). I took M4, M5 then A30. Can really recommend this route. I was not caning it along the motorway either.
Didn't see you eProf! Too many white Merc Sprinter vans steaming past me I think! Hope your journey was just as good.
Cheers, Yoby
Does anyone out there happen to have a battery catalogue modern or old (e.g. an old Lucas catalogue possibly from the '60s or '70s)? I need to find the battery code for a 1957 Ford Anglia 100E that I've just purchased (NOT to be confused with later, reverse window Harry Potter type). Or maybe someone just knows what will fit (it must have the round terminals; an old type Mini one would suffice but at just over 5 inches wide it's a little to narrow and needs packing out; I've got about 6.5 inches to play with - ooh err missus!). Any help or suggestions gratefully received - I was hoping to find such a catalogue on the web, but no luck so far (it's not easy deciding what to search for). Cheers in anticipation.

I used Lincon "Cold-Start" batteries back in the 50/60's-best batteries I've ever used.
Hi,
I have an Audi A3 1.6 SE R reg with 90000 miles on the clock.
I was hoping you would be able to help with my current car problem. I've taken my car to three garages and got three different diagnosis. I eventually went with one (An Audi approved one) and they put the changes in and the car is no better.
My symptoms are as follows:
(Happen all intermittently)
1) The car idles at 2000 RPM (normally just below 1000RPM)
2) The car cuts out when I stop at say a traffic light and when I try to restart it it doesn't start. It turns over but doesn't seem to rev up. After a few minutes of trying the car fires up (NB I have to pump the gas peddle to get it started. Normally I don't need to do this.)
3) The car once cut out as I was driving at approx. 10 MPH. No matter how hard I pushed the accelerator peddle the car would not accelerator and the rev counter just went down to 0. I then experienced the problem of the car not starting again.
NB (1) happens more often than (2) and (2) more often than (3)
The Audi garage cleaned the throttle and replaced the o2 sensor (air mass meter) and this has not helped. Although after doing this they said the car was fixed. When I said it wasn't they started saying I also need a new ECU.
One other thing I noticed is that when the air conditioning is on the car seems to only warm up to 75-80 degrees Celsius ( on the dash gauge). It used to always go to 90 degrees Celsius after a short drive.
Another garage said it was the Lambda sensor....
Please could you let me know what you think the problem could be or what you think I should do next?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I would suggest the next (& cheapest )thing to change is the engine coolant temp sensor. These often go out of calibration & send the wrong info to the engine Ecu,thus causing all sorts of problems with over/under fuelling & erratic idle conditions.
Hi - just got car back from having an air temp valve fitted. Now have a problem that the central locking does not work. Also when I turn off the engine the time keeps reverting back to 00.00. These have only started since I got the car back. Car drives fine other than this. Any ideas. Thanks in advance. Read more

Any update on this problem?
This may seem like a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyhow......
I'm looking for one of those motorcycle air filters, that are about 15"-18" long,by about 8" wide, and are made of sponge. They have a base, that you cut the holes yourself, depending on the type of carburettor, they're going on.
The reason I'm looking for one?
I have a pair of DCNF carbs on my Citroen AX Autograss car,and because I'm limited for space under the bonnet,I think one of these air filters will fit, without the need for bulkhead modifications.
I currently have a brand new pair of K&N lookalikes, but as they are for a VW Beetle, they're just a little too thin, and may restrict the air flow.
I've looked on Fleabay, but as I don't know what they're proper name is,or what type of bike they come from,I might as well be urinating in the wind.Once I know what I'm looking for,I'll contatct a motorcycle shop, and see what they going to rob me of,cash wise.

Sounds like what I've got on my Suzuki (GSX). I don't know what the dimensions are, but lenght wise it would be somewhere round what you want.
Most bike shops are fairly helpful with technical questions, and as far as I can recall mine was well under a tenner.
Last night I visited a friend with residents parking!!! I duly placed the visitors pass, with yesterdays date in the windscreen and a few bevvies later crashed out on their floor. When I left this morning at 9.50am (quite reasonable i thought) I had received a parking ticket (at 9.41am) for parking in a residents space. This parking ticket has 1 letter incorrect on the reg number but they do take photos in this area. I'm not very happy about this as very expensive hotel I thought & I didn't even get breakfast! Should I appeal on the grounds of being unreasonable, I did have a pass so was obviously welcome not just parked up and wandered off and chance them saying 'tough, pay up' or should I ignore it, with the incorrect reg number they can't trace the car to me but would they check through all the photos by which time the fine would have doubled because not paid within the 14 days. Is a parking ticket valid with incorrect information on it? Appreciate your thoughts on this. Read more
If the Visitors Pass was for only up to 2359 on 31st March and Attendant in habit of taking a pix then I would consider paying forthwith and before the Charge is increased. They will have enough to take you to County Court to recover the debt.
