Hope this is the right area for this:

1992 Fiesta 1.3 auto, well maintained and otherwise fine, is cutting out when handbrake is applied and put into neutral. Won't start for a while (while traffic lights change 3-4 times for instance) then is fine again. AA and usual garage cannot sort it out - any ideas?

92 so pre cat
sounds like the carb is flooding maybe due to lots of work through its life?stop/start etc
when car in neutral the revs should rise slowly to compensate for set off stall does it do this?
can you see another cable going from carb to gearbox for this purpose?is it free if it has one?
are you sure the breathers are clear on the engine specifically the oil filler top up? this will make it stall at tickover (try a new one £3 at a factors)check the pipes are clear going to the bottom of the air filter box braddle them through and at the inlet manifold.
The brake servo pipe that goes into the manifold sometimes comes in and out pull (under acceleration /stopping hard to find till you know it does it) it see if it does as this will cause your problem.

Turn off the engine and listen to the radio while waiting for a late running (again)train to arrive. After 10 minutes radio cuts out and a little light goes on saying "Economy Mode". Drives me mad. Is the battery power so marginal that the radio (standard fit) will drain it after 10 mins. Can this setting be over ridden? Read more

The Economy Mode time can be changed, Its part of the BSI configuration set up.

To get the car out of economy mode just start the engine to reset the timer.

Take the car to a Peugeot main dealer, Take both sets of keys & the blue security code card & while they download the latest BSI & ECU software ask them nicely to change the setting to the correct 30 minutes it should have been set at when it had its PDI.

Question honda mileage
dannyboy

can anyone tell me what kind of mileage i can realistically expect from a J reg 1.5 lsi honda civic? it's on 152,000 now and i would like to know if it will carry on happily for at least another 50k if looked after before needing a rebuild. thanks. Read more

I also think it may have something to do with the Company car culture over here when Manufacturers are pandering to Fleet Managers and keeping their costs down - 1 or 2 oil changes for the period they keep the car.
I believe that in the USA/Canada more cars are privately owned and so to make em last longer they change oil more frequently.
200K miles not uncommon with regular oil changes.

Can anyone suggest a suitable mastic product to stop a petrol leak?

The leak is from a petrol measuring device where two plastic pipes make a T joint that is covered by a rubber washer. Petrol is weeping past the rubber washer. Read more

Recently there have been a number of air leaks on diesel filters/fuel pipes resulting in poor cold starting;I try always to remove the complete filter assy. from the engine when doing this job-it is then easy to see that the filter cartridge and seals are correctly fitted than trying to do this by feel and upside down. Question 406 heated seat
jaffa

I have a 406 Coupe, the drivers seat heating element has now given up the ghost and decided it will be a chilly start for me in the mornings. I know a new element from pug will set me back £80.00 odd, fitting it is something else more like hundreds.
my question is, do's anyone know of a car upholstery specialist in the north west that might consider this kind of work. The closer to wirral the better.

Thanks

Saw one of these things recently - like in the current pop-up ad.
Slogan says: "Mitsubishi L200 - It's hard." ..... hard to see why anybody would want one?

One for the ugly cars thread, definitely.

I think the advantages of the pickup relate mainly to those people who have businesses. Tax advantages are considerable, VAT recovery (could be £3k+), 50% capital allowances and you can charge repairs / servicing against the business. All this gives you 4X4 capability at a very affordable price compared to the SUVs and the way things are going they pretty much will soon have all the comfort and driving poise of the SUVs.

Downsides are you make a few more 5 point turns than you might otherwise do, visibility is sometimes a bit limited (I have a solid side cab-hi snugtop on mine, but it gives a big loadspace and you keep things dry & secure) and you sometimes have to climb in the loadbay to pull things out that have settled near the cab.

Apart from this I have to say, very pleased with mine (Navara - 54 Plate, old model). The 4x4 capability was important (my business is in the Scottish Highlands and it is snowing as I write) and the double cab gives so much flexibility,

There was an article in Honest Johns column couple weeks back where he mentioned a website that listed companies that could do 4 wheel alignments.
Anyone know the address of the website?

Thanks
