Mitsubishi L200 - Sofa Spud
Saw one of these things recently - like in the current pop-up ad.
Slogan says: "Mitsubishi L200 - It's hard." ..... hard to see why anybody would want one?

One for the ugly cars thread, definitely.

Perhaps the L200 is not suited to the UK where the Transit van seems to be the workhorse. Down under, in New Zealand and Australia, the L200 has been a very popular choice for farmers and tradesmen. It performs better than a Land Rover for less than half the price and is probably more reliable. No contest. Ugly, perhaps, but so is the Transit, and it's for work, not fashion parades.

Soon to be seen towing a caravan near you.

Do you want some lucky heather?

That and the Navara seem to appeal to the knuckle dragging portion of the populace.

Friend uses one with a truckman top for dogie reasons. Trains field trials dog champions. If you need to get 5 people and and a pack of 10 baying dogs into the middle of a field or grouse moor (and out again) there is nothing comes close.

What I was thinking is that even if I was in the market for a double-cab 4x4 I'd pass this one by on looks alone.

It looks like a home-made job with a small Japanese supermini hatchback body perched on a long 4x4 chassis with a rear tub made from a sawn-off speedboat!

Ford Transit ugly? I think the current model look nice although the forthcoming facelift spoils it.

Doesn't look any more outlandish than any other double cab pickup to me. Well, just a bit perhaps, but what's wrong with a bit of outlandish?

If I cd afford it and didn't have an elegantly shabby and filthy white Escort with three plastic wheel discs and one naked black wheel, a nicely blinged-up chipped L200 would suit me fine, yeah man, nang, knowImean?

I think the advantages of the pickup relate mainly to those people who have businesses. Tax advantages are considerable, VAT recovery (could be £3k+), 50% capital allowances and you can charge repairs / servicing against the business. All this gives you 4X4 capability at a very affordable price compared to the SUVs and the way things are going they pretty much will soon have all the comfort and driving poise of the SUVs.

Downsides are you make a few more 5 point turns than you might otherwise do, visibility is sometimes a bit limited (I have a solid side cab-hi snugtop on mine, but it gives a big loadspace and you keep things dry & secure) and you sometimes have to climb in the loadbay to pull things out that have settled near the cab.

Apart from this I have to say, very pleased with mine (Navara - 54 Plate, old model). The 4x4 capability was important (my business is in the Scottish Highlands and it is snowing as I write) and the double cab gives so much flexibility,
