Hi All,
I have a Nissan Micra that's about 3.5 years old that has started creaking.
The suspension has always made loud creaking noises going over big bumps, where my Dad's that is about 6 years old makes no suspension noises to speak of.
I've now noticed louded creaking noises at slow speaks in car parks - especially when turning sharply and braking - such as when swinging into the parking space.
Does anyone have an idea what it might be? The car is just approaching 25000 miles, but has been creaking for quite some time now.
Any thoughts appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt

Has anyone out there had trouble removing wiper arms from their posts? I have a Passat, 1998 vintage and my wife has a Mk.4 Golf, on attempting to clean out leaves and debris, the plenum cover/fairing has to be removed, this entails removing the wiper arms. I know that they are on a splined shaft, but, they are very reluctant to come off, is there a special tool available?
All comments much appreciated!

Thanks to all who replied, I managed to remove the remaining wiper arm in the manner described by the man "in the trade".
Much appreciated!

Old trick. Give it a good stamping all over with a centre-punch.

My wife's VW Lupo is about to have its 4 year service. The VW garage - Lindvale tells me the advice is to change the cam belt - at some cost! The car is used around town and only done 11000 miles. Is the condition of the cam belt dependent on age or mileage? I'm all in favour of maintaining a car properly but a new cam belt at this mileage?

No it isn't, 1.4 TDi 3 cylinder is belt driven cam.

I want to renew the rear disc pads on a Pug 307.
But how do you reset the piston in the caliper to allow the new pads. The piston will rotate and the Handbrake lever, guide pins and cable are free. But cannot push the piston back as you would on a front caliper.
Also there is a slight bind on both the rear disc's, not enough to hold on slight incline, but hard to turn the disc without the wheel fitted. Is this normal on these or a fault within the caliper.
thanks Read more
Did one recently. Amazed how thin the new pads were! Clockwise rotation to reset the pistons, open the bleed nipple to allow the displaced fluid to bleed away rather than going the 'wrong' way back through the system, squirt a little WD40 onto the bellows to stop it winding up as you wind the piston in. Dont operate the handbrake until after you have pumped the pistons out again onto the new pads. When you DO pump the pistons out DONT push the pedal to the floor, rather give several short pumps. This is because if you force the piston in the master cylinder past where it normally operates you could damage the seals if there is any crud theirin.
Good luck
Andrew

A colleague was stopped by a police car for touching his ROS wheel on a small domed white marked mini roundabout and received a fixed £30 fine. Then today I hear that a guy was procesuted for sticking two fingers up a mobile speed camera van although he was not speeding. Are the police loosing the plot or what. Regards Peter Read more
I seem to be different from other people in that I don't really mind mini-roundabouts because they do indicate who has priority and often make for a more regular flow at junctions which become congested at rush hour. The fact that quite a lot of people are unsure about the priority rule or fail to signal causes everyone with any sense to approach the things with caution.
What I do mind is very high or bumpy cobbled ones, since they are clearly meant to be driven over. A paint spot on the road is ideal.

Have you seen that 'fake Minis' advert on TV. I couldn't understand it at all when I first saw it, but now I'm assuming that they are taking a shot at the Suzuki Swift, which has similar styling elements to the Mini. Do you think I'm correct in this? Read more
I never thought about the advert that way
I just presumed it was trying to tell people that the proper (?) mini is the best.
To me, it's not focusing on anyone, merely saying how good and popular it is. I hate them anyway.
The Golf (mk V) manual states "the Climatronic system should only be switched off in exceptional circumstances, e.g., if there is a fault in the system".
Any ideas why there is this warning - if the sunroof is open it seems pointless to have the system working, albeit in economy mode? Read more
A sunroof AND airconditioning always seems weird to me.
Give me aircon every time. Sunroofs are hateful creaky things that reduce head room. IMHO.

Anyone changed their wiper blades on a new shape Scenic? Dealer wants about £40 for the front set. Havent been to Halfords yet to compare prices etc but not sure if the Scenic would be more difficult than normal as they have those very long curved blades?

Mine used to creak for years - it seems common on these. According to someone on a Micra forum (do a Google) it can be alleviated by greasing up one of the suspension joints. Probably nothing more serious than this.
