My Almera passed its MOT yesterday, and i collected it today. The certificate is the new style A4 thingy (which looks quite easy to copy), and it has a peel off sticker in the bottom left hand corner.
Wassat for then? Is this a remarkable bit of common sense? Can i remove sticker and stick to my windscreen so i know when MOT is due?

Apparently the legal position for our blue sticker is at the top of the screen - at least that is where the tester put the last one I received. Pity the top 3" of the screen has a sun-glare tint - it means the sticker is invisible from the outside.
I am going to treat myself to a towball mounted 4 cycle carrier tomorrow (hopefully).
I have got my choice down to the following
The Thule one
www.roofrackshop.co.uk/bike/thule-903-euroclassic-...m
or the Pendle one
www.roofrackshop.co.uk/bike/pendle-wheel-support-b...m
I know the pictures don't show the 4 bikes but they do sell the 4 bike versions.
Does anyone have any experience of either of these that could recommend one against the other? I know the Thule is dearer but it folds up neater and can be stored in the boot, as well as tilting back to allow access to the boot. The Pendle doesn't do either of these but is £100 cheaper. I have read the previous threads on the subject, just wondering if anyone has any further info or experience on either? Read more
Cheers for that Hawkeye. I remember you recommending the Hollywood from the last thread but I couldn't find any dealers nearby .
I bought the Thule this morning so hopefully first trip on it might be boxing day if Santa delivers the kids new bikes....
It was interesting to see Thule actually make a storage type box to fit on the cycle carrier if I ever needed all the space!
I know this has been touched on with a thread in technical but article in today's paper caught my eye.
A guy in Liverpool was jailed for 15 months yesterday for stealing over 1000 car stereos and selling them on ebay over the course of 15 months. He apparently made over £229,000 ( a high average price I thought) by doing this.
We all know it goes on, we know it wouldn't if there wasn't a demand, but still an eye opener to see these figures I feel. Read more
If it wasn't ebay it would be the local paper or 'down the pub'. There will always be a market for such low lives. All you can do is buy from a reputable dealer (or brand new).
The fact it was in Liverpool is irelevant. Crime happens everywhere.
Out and about today was offered 2000 May Rover 75 Classic SE 1.8 in black. 37000 miles with aircon and alloys. The car is beautiful and drives like new. No ball of fire but quiet and smooth. Owner closing down his business and 'open to offers'. I don't need it but at £1850 should I buy it? Might replace my trusty old Clio with it if I thought it was reliable.
Only one place to ask .... Read more
Crazy that it's only worth £1800. You could strip it and sell the parts on ebay for many times that.
As the year draws in, its time to list your motoring top tens.
to get you thinking - here is a link to a MSN site that lists its top ten "top ten" stories of the year.

for your information, I have a Vectra and it does not
ride like a kangaroo. That said, I've not tried riding skippy
or one of his friends to find out, as I'm not
into kinky perversions of that nature. I do however know that
the ride quality of my Vectra is not bouncy in the
slightest but is one of the most comfortable cars I've ever
owned.
Caveman, I guess we'll have to differ on that! It may that the Vectra I have been riding in was a duff one, but I honestly found it very unsettled. Looking around, I don't seem to be alone in that view: www.carkeys.co.uk/road_test/vauxhall/7467.asp
Glad you are pleased with yours, though!
Hi,
I have got a 4 year old Mercedes Vito van 108cdi with a 2.1 diesel engine. I find it stalls easily if I let the clutch in too quickly and it is only getting 27 miles per gallon. Otherwise it seems to run OK. Is this normal or is there something wrong with it?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Martin. Read more
I've been told it might be the cold start needing adjusting, does this seem possible? It seems wrong that I have to rev the engine whenever I let the clutch in to stop it stalling. Anyone know about Vito vans?
Thanks,
Martin.

I was driving along a 40mph limit semi-rural road today, and parked on the grass verge was a small (1m square) trailer with a vertical board. As I approached it the board lit up with the message ?Your speed 37?. On the back it said ?Police?. I?ve not seen one of those before. I was tempted to turn round and check my speedo at readings of 50 60 and 70 but I didn?t. If it?s still there tomorrow however ....
P.S. The police aren't daft ~ it was fitted with a wheel-clamp!

Having been nearly run down - on a pelican crossing - by a muppet overtaking at what looked and sounded like 50mph in a 30 mph limit, I'm NOT in favour of speed humps:
BUT
Salutary penalties for exceeding speed limits in built up areas like confiscating cars and enforced attendance at A&E units to see the carnage.
Some of the driving I have seen as a pedestrian (often when running) is sheer abject lunacy and the perpetuators require removal from the roads for a very long time for the safety of others (I don't care about them).
So some traffic police please! and some proper penalties...which act as deterrants..(and if it's a company car it is confiscated as well: teach companies to discipline their drivers imo)

The Truvelo does flash.
A friend of mine got caught on a one in Northamptonshire, some years ago, very early in the morning, and he said it nearly blinded him,to the extent that if anything had of been coming towards him,he wouldn't have been able to see it,momentarily, and the results could have been catastrophic.
A H&S issue perhaps?

It's a possible and most likely explanation but not guaranteed...
