Question mondeo camber
cavi

hi, my freind has an 01 mondeo estate with the duretech deisel engine and has a fault with the camber angle.he found out by going to the local ford dealer that these models especially the ex exec's (which he has) have a problem with camber and all four wheels have to be readjusted. my friend asked them that when it is sorted would it be ok and no more problems to which he got, the car might be good for loading it up at the most twice in a year without throwing the camber out again! what i want to know is why make an estate car ,which will obviously be used as a pack donkey, with such dodgy running gear? all replies are appreciated.. I seem to remember Esther Ransten doing a number of consumer Watchdog type shows about early Mondeos which pulled to the left.

My 5 yr old Honda came with Michelins as original fitment - I replaced them with Michelins.

Costco (Branches around the country but you have to be a member) were £43-£44 each 185/65 x 14.

This is a Premium Tyre @ the price of Medium Brands such as Avon/Firestone at your local tyre suppliers.

As for buying a current 1.6 Civic - I would hold fire as the prices will come down as the new model gets nearer release in Jan 2006.

I was offered £2k off a 5 door Civic without asking - I was awaiting a repair invoice in the showroom.

HJ's best prices article seems to have a few entries for 2005 Civics.

By Jan 2006 the prices could be sharper - but then you might not get your first colour choice.

2001 - they reduced the list price of outgoing Civic 1.6 by £4000
that''s 2 x the discount offered 3/4 weeks ago

My ka (1.3) has now covered just over 6k miles, and im very pleased with it to date. I worked out my last tanks' mpg and it worked out at 45mpg, but that was pretty much half town driving and half doing long runs. I suppose if i went on a long run i could easily get 50mpg or poss even a little more! What mpg are other Ka owners getting? Both endura 'e' and duratec owners, I would be interested to hear your experiences.

Thanks in advance

There are significant differences in gearing and engine power between the earlier "endura" and later "duratec" engined KAs, as mentioned here:

I couldn't comment about the consumption figures though, as my youngest has yet to master the art of keeping tabs on mileage, and fuel used in her KA.

Sorry to re-awaken this one, but I've seen some historical posts on the subject which may be relevant
- I have an 02 reg Clio.
Sometimes the engine will not even turn - all the lights are on but the start motor does not activate. Seems to be totally intermittent - all I do is keep trying the key in the lock, rocking the car or walking away for a few minutes and then it works.
Could be a sensor, or the igition lock or anything?? But which sensor?
Or could it be the key fob?
I've checked the battery connections and they are ok.

Anyone got any ideas? Because it is intermittent its difficult to diagnose.

That was going to be my reply;either worn brushes or,what I had on a VW,worn-out contacts in the solenoid.

Laguna accident.

The RF goona is not coming home.

I wont go into details of the how the accident happend, but the result was that RF goona was struck at approx 35 to 40 mph by a 38 seat single deck bus. The Bus T-Boned the goona just in front of the A post (without me braking it would have been through the drivers door).

The bus driver was trapped in the bus and had to be cut free. 3 ambulances, two fire engines, and the Leicestershire air ambulance landed in the field next door.

Its a scary moment folks. The seatbelt pre tensioner deploys so hard you are winded and breathless and cant breath properly till you unclip it. 5 airbags went off filling the inside with a LOT of smoke and its very very hot. Passenger airbag, driver airbag, two r/h side curtain airbags and the r/h side seat side airbag deployed.

The drivers door could not be opened from the inside but the first paramedic on the scene could open it ok from the outside.

RF was carted off to A&E in the an ambulance with blue and twos up. Boy is that a rough ride!

RF escaped with two cracked ribs, severe bruising of shoulder and airbag burns to inside of r/h wrist and l/h inside elbow. Bus driver cut free and escaped with cuts and bruises. (bus was fortunately running empty)

Now to the title. Any of you doubt the benefits of 5 star NCAP crash protection, you look very hard before you scoff.

Thank you Renault. It may have had a dicky clutch and a whining gearbox, but when the crunch came your promises came through. Thanks to Leicestershire Police, Oakham Fire service, Lincs and Leics ambulance service and thanks to Peterborough A&E team.

ATAPI and FDD confusion on ebay

I'm thinking of buying one of those internal Floppy/card reader devices for my PC. A lot have descriptions like "ATAPI interface for standard FDD connector on motherboard". Forgive me for getting this wrong, but surely ATAPI (being a 40 pin port and an extention of IDE) is completely different to a standard FDD interface which has 34 pins?

However, although I do use Adobe 6 as and when necessary,
for the majority of the time I use Foxit's free pdf
reader which just involves downloading a tiny file (a contrast to
the ever growing Adobe offering). See:
www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Stuart,

Thanks for posting that link - I have been having trouble with Adobe's pdf reader for yonks. It converts all itallicised text into a cyrillic script for some reason, but the Foxit program works perfectly.

Guess which program I'm using henceforth!

Cheers,

Hi,
I was recently involved in a road traffic accident between myself (in a car) and a motorcyclist. Police attended the scene as the motorcyclist was injured in the incident. I was not cautioned at the scene nor was I even given a producer (I was accompanied by a third party at the accident scene so I didnt just miss the caution being given!!).

I have been visited by the police nine weeks later and cautioned for careless driving and asked to provide a statement which will be sent to a case review officer who will decide on whether to send to the Crown Prosecution Service for the offence.

I must admit to being slightly confused as presumably if the police thought that I had acted in a dangerous manner they would have at least given me a producer for my insurance details etc and/or cautioned me at the time.

The crash investigation unit were not called to the scene (apparently called to most personal injury accidents)and when I phoned the police to enquire as to why this was I was told that presumably this was an uncontentious accident (I pulled out from a junction and the motorcyclist hit the front passenger wing of my vehicle)

I have looked on various web sites for the answer to this and there seems to be a lot of conflicting information. The police informed me when they eventually visited that because I was present and aware of the accident that they did not have to issue a Notice of Intention to prosecute. Does anybody have any concrete idea of the correct protocol in this instance?

I have recently bought a new Renault Scenic Expression 1.9DCi.

The car is a Left-Hand drive for the French market.
My question is as about the trip computer language. Does anybody know if it is possible to change it from French to English? Although my French has improved since having the car, I would prefer the messages in English. I thought I would ask on the forum before I attempt to ask the garage in my ?school boy? French.

I live in France so hence the left-hand drive requirement.

Many thanks,
Will.
