Obviously, not the greens, and I apologise if this is isn't a question we're allowed to ask (feel free to remove this if it isn't), but who does everyone think would be the best party for the motorist, solely on this single issue (let's try not to get caught up in other policy-related debate)? (NOT A PROTEST THREAD!)
I'm curious as to what those more in the know when it comes to motoring think will happen to fuel prices - they can't keep rising, surely? (Not until we really are starting to run out of oil anyway).

As I predicted on a thread here a few weeks ago it was announced this week that US stocks have faired better than expected taking the pressure off production, should filter through to the pumps in the not to distant future.
Hi all.
Need a bit of help here. I am planning on taking a trip to Scotland in the next month or so. Will be going to see a few sites - some of the glens, also be visiting Falkirk Canal/ bridge.
I am having some trouble in finding accomodation. I was after a cabin in particular - for 5-6 people maybe up to a max of 10.
Would like to have electricity! and hot water. Will be going for 4-6 days.
Any idea where to look - I've tried websites - all seem to cater for b&b's and hotels.
Look close to west side of Scotland - perhaps furthur North.
Also any must see sites / great roads - let me know.

It was a spammer who resurrected the thread, trying to sell holiday cottages. Deleted, so anyone replying to it is up the loch without a paddle.
Just when it looks like the sport it getting interesting the FIA decide to attempt to exclude one of the front runners. I don't know the full story but apparently the FIA admitted they were aware of the "concealed" fuel tank, the stewards at the race accepted BAR's logic regarding it's use, so what's to argue?

I agree - so many people think it is a procession of cars led by a red Ferrari (well, they generally haven't seen a race this year!) and now we have a situation like Brazil last year where the end of race result wasn't the result and there were legal wranglings and a representation of the winners trohpy at the next race.
Why bother watching it live when you can read the result in the paper (but don't get Monday's paper, wait for Thursday to get the final final final result!!!!)
Don't get me wrong, I love F1 and most motorsport, but right now I find it hard to argue against those who complain about F1 which is sad.
need to fit a after-market hi-output alternator(US company) but have no idea what kind of mounting kangoo uses.
current alternator is only churning out 70 amps at 3.5k rpm which is totally not enough for my application.
is there a standard mounting term? do I have to buy a used alternator and mail it to america?
thanks in advance

SWMBO had her court case today for driving without due care and attention. Unfortunately she had not seen a motorbike as the tree lined road makes things a little hard. The biker hit the car at relatively low speeds and got up and walked around (until 10 mins later some pain came). SWMBO called the police/ambulance etc etc
Anyway, we pleaded guilty with mitigating circumstances and received a smallish fine and 6 points. As she already has 3 points she is worried that if she does digress in the next 2-3 years she will get 12 and be banned and not be able to drive around our disabled son. The lawyer's have said that 6 is quite harsh and that they had hoped for 4.
What are the general thoughts on 6 points? Is this normal for due care & attention or is 4 more reasonable? Read more
And on Cheddar's well presented note, I think it's time to close the thread.
Thank you Cheddar for wrapping it up neatly and without some of the emotional frippery that has tainted other posts on the thread.

A Datsun Cherry "coupe" from the 1970s takes some beating.

Rear brake light needs replaced. Found a plastic cover at rear of light cluster with a Tab. Do I just pull it off? Also, where can I get a home maintenance manual (like Haynes) for my Passat?

I stand corrected, and I'm surprised that something that can get
an owner fines/penaly points isn't covered in the manual.
I might be speaking out of turn here, but I don't think you can get points on your licence for extinguished bulbs alone. And this would go for a headlight that was out. There will be a non-specific offence that would attract a non-endorseable fine, but then that would be on the extreme scale. An example would be the unneccessary use of 'fog lights' whilst driving udner clear night sky - the offence here is 'causing undue dazzle' for example which can be used for someone driving around using their main beams...
Generally speaking though people don't realise they have light(s) out until thats pointed out to them or the bulb fails enroute (IE: they checked before they started their journey, but it has failed since) and a polite word usually is all that is needed. However something a little more dangerous - like a car that has no working brake lights can be forcibly 'removed from the road' by a suitably qualified Traffic Officer for it is considered dangerous.
So I wouldn't really fret, just for my own safety, I'd get the bulbs changed.

Im not plain stupid, just a special kind of stoopid.
I fancy touring Eastern Europe in the summer for about 2 months.
Do I need any special insurance or will my fully comp do?
Any ideas of costs?

I would echo Martin123. Typically you are offered the legal minimum of insurance for a country by default. Now in the UK the legal minimum of insurance is pretty much the same as your legal liability. THere are countries in the world where that is not true and your legal minimum insurance can be considerable more limited than your legal liabilty.
Don't take a chance, don't try and do it on the cheap, don't try and guess. Contact your insurer, tell them what you are doing, and get their agreement and cover details in writing.
Also check what you are supposed to do in the event of an incident - are you entitled to get the vehicle repaired and claim back later ? do you have to get repairs authorised ? how ? What about crime/incident references ? etc. etc.
Nope, goats it is.
However, I'm currently considering accepting hamsters for motorcycle tax discs.
