Hi folks,need some help
Recently when I start my Almere 96 1.4 from cold I get this noise from the back like ompfff just for a moment and than its gone. Is my exhaust is going? there are no obvious holes or noise when the car is going. Read more
Yes...I've done it again. It's actually taken me almost a week to admit to it, and only now because I need some expert Backroom help, so please be gentle. :)
The parking at our HQ is appalling - it's an 'abandon your car anywhere and spend the whole day jumping up and down to play car chess' situation. Ironically, I was moving my car further onto the verge so that noone would scrape the driver's side squeezing past, and I rubbed a little fence post thing all down the passenger door.
It's not scraped, but scuffed. I mean, it's not through to the metal, but there is a white mark that wont polish off. It's also dented, but the paint isn't broken, just scuffed, which doesn't look great on a metallic black car.
If Dentwizard can't help when the paint is broken, and Chipsaway can't do it if there's a dent, who do I need to call? Does a scuff count as the paint being broken?
Thanks! Read more
Do other dCi owners stretch their oil to 18K? Seems a long time to me but my dealer says it is designed to go that far. My Megane is now 15 months old with 11K on the clock so it won't want changing until it's two years old. It hasn't used a drop of oil but it is pretty black. Read more
If it's bugging you that much, get it changed. It'll only
cost you about £20.
I wish! Genuine Renault filter and fully synthetic is much more than that, not allowing for the labour.
The larger Renault garages are offering Renault Minute service as a fast fit option. I used them for fitting some mudflaps to the Megane before Christmas. Good quick service and they changed a front sidelight bulb for me. I was very pleased since it's quite tricky to do...
I think I will change the oil myself but get the bits from Renault.
Hi,
just a quick question.
If you change the size of the wheel on a car does that mean the speedo will be wrong?

It's only an advantage if you don't have a synchromesh gearbox.
I was reading HJ's Auction guide and it said to be wary of
fleets who have their own retail outlets...can anyone let me know who these are? or if you cant post here could you please email me?
Also I have only been to an Auction once (Back Street type) and got ripped off and now I have more money and will be only going to a big auction house, can anyone please let me know which of Vendor branded sales are safe bets to buy from: www.british-car-auctions.co.uk/main.asp?page=798 Read more
Im going to be replacing my estate this year and I\'d love to hear Honest John\'s views on this please.

Xantia went argh for the last time. Now deceased.
I'm not planning to get another car until the winter comes as I don't really travel that far and other half has a car.
Will I now lose my protected no claims if I am not insured on any motor? Obviously I would have to declare the claim to a new insurer should I get another motor.
Can I insure myself on the other half's car even though I'm not the keeper, or can I only be named on her policy?
Just not sure how to keep my insurance going, or if I even need to...

Disgusting. We would have waited until one minute to... (joke)
The fact that you are paying by direct debit does not change anything. A common mistake made is that you are paying for one month at a time. You are not. You have a years insurance and the direct debit is a way of paying the annual premium. Therefore, the cancellation charges are the same. Your insurer will charge you for the period used (the 'time on risk') and refund the rest. With direct debit they compare the time on risk with the amount you have actually paid and adjust the remainder. Generally if there is less than 3 months remaining you must pay the full premium.
If a claim has been made against your policy in the current year of insurance the full premium becomes payable regardless.
Got vibration through steering (and seat) on my Yaris at around 65-70 mph. I hoped that when the front tyres were changed (and wheels balanced) this would go away, but it didn't. Wheels are 15" alloys, btw.
I noticed a Central Tyre place near my work today. Rang them and they do a 'standard' balance for £6.80 a wheel, and a 'precision' balance for £10.50. Apparently the precision balance is based on the position of the wheel nuts rather than the centre of the wheel, or something like that.
Anyone know anything about this 'precision' balancing? Is it likely to give better results?

Had similar problem some years ago when i fitted cheap"n" cheerful
tyres to my passat. In less than a year they went out
of round.Replaced them with Dunlops-no problems
In my case the warped tyre was a Dunlop SP 9000 supplied new with the car. I guess you can probably get a faulty tyre with any brand. Or maybe it got damaged somehow.
Particularly with a Skoda Fabia wrapped around it. Does anyone have any first hand experience with these engines?. I think the Audi A2 also has it fitted. Besides the obvious power/torque differences, how does it compare to the 1.9 TDI?. I read that its a 3 cylinder, does that increase noise or vibration compared to the 4-cyl?.
It would be for my wife who doesn't really care about outright power or engine performance as long as its the equal of her current 1.6 petrol Astra and better than her last diesel which was a non-turbo 1.7 M-reg Corsa. Read more
If she isn't dead set on this particular car/engine, then a couple of reliable alternatives would be the new 1.4 diesel in the Corolla producing 89 bhp, and the Mazda3 with the same 110 bhp 1.6 diesel as was previously mentioned that's fitted in the Ford Focus, Citroen C4 etc.

Vroom, vroom - mmm, doughnuts ...
Hi, this is my first post and I wonderd if any of you knowledgable people could offer advice.
I've recently purchased a 1998 Peugeot 306 which has remote central locking. The problem is that you need to be behind the car virtually touching it before the thing will work. It does lock and unlock I just thought the range may have been better and it would actually work in front ot the car. I've changed the batteries in the key but it's still the same.
Any ideas please ?

Would the reciever be the black dome inside the car,
Yes.
My key has an LED on it, like a TV remote, would this make it IR?
Yes again. To test the plipper, tune a portable radio to AM and hold the plip close to the radio. You should hear beeping coming through the speaker. Alternately point it at a digital camera or cctv system and you'll see light pulses - if it's working that is.
I am looking to buy a new car that offers 0% APR finance.
1) Anyone offering this apart from Vauxhall?
2) What to watch out for?
Thanks. Read more
There are all sorts of ways round this for dealers and
manufacturers but offering "discount OR 0%" is not a legal one.
That might be true, but one way 'they' get round is like the 0% deal is very much model specific - take VX for example, they're offering 0% finance on the SXi - which costs £10k, but on say the 'Life' (costs £8k?) it has no 0% offer - so you couldn't really buy a 'Life' with 0% since it doesn't qualify for the 'offer'...

Im not plain stupid, just a special kind of stoopid.

'Fraid not, but it did make me feel better. Dunno if it was a company car or not but since it already had a scrape on one wing (probably the same car park, it has evil bollards) I doubt she'd have claimed on insurance.
