I have a Mondeo TD (new shape) and have noticed an annoying ticking sound. The faster I go, the faster the ticking. It only happens when the car is moving. That is, it doesn't tick when you rev the engine. I can't work out if the noise is comming from the front wheels or under the car. I know my description is basic, but does anybody have any ideas of anything to simple to check.
Thanks in advance.

According to an article found on the BBC website, it claims that Drivers are 'not reporting crashes'
One out of every four drivers failed to report a road accident in the past year, so the true level of incidents has been underestimated, a report says.
have you? or have you not?

I hestitate to admit that I reversed into a bollard on the business park we are now based upon. Fortunately I chose to do it in the Landie. Result Landie unmarked, bollard sent for recycling into a 1 series interior. Didn't cough it though.
Can anyone recomment an independant VW specialist to me. It would either be in Norfol (nr Norwich) where I live or in Bury St Edmunds are (Suffolk) where I work. I am anxious to avoid the prices and reputed attitude of a VW franchise. My car is out of warranty. Any help gratefully received. Read more
Anybody who goes around with a mobile phone switched on is being tracekd by that, already. It should be dead easy to interfere with the aerial/reception of any GPS device in your car. If it run by the Government and based on computers it will be a very expensive failure. You read it here first!
I sprung a leak on my top rad hose the other day. Got a replacement from VW for £70, but forgot to buy the special VW G12+ coolant.
Ive re-filled the system with water, as i need the car tomorrow. I wont be able to flush & refil with coolant for a couple of weeks. Will using just water for 2 weeks cause any problems? Or am i worrying over nothing? Read more
if you use water for a week or so,it should be ok
dont add any other chemicals..
and dont forget,,with less anti freeze in it ,,the boiling point is a lot lower..
get it changed asap :)
dont be tempted to add a non specific antifreeze as a temp measure

An artist who randomly vandalised nearly 50 cars for a project said the owners should be happy they were part of his "creative process".
Mark McGowan, 37, will exhibit pictures of himself scratching the vehicles' paintwork in London and Glasgow. He said he had "keyed" 17 cars in Glasgow's West End in March and 30 in Camberwell, south London. The Met police said the act was criminal damage and if allegations are made they will be investigated.
Mr McGowan added: "I do feel guilty about keying people's cars but if I don't do it, someone else will. "They should feel glad that they've been involved in the creative process. I pick the cars randomly. "I got the idea when my sister and brother-in-law's cars were keyed. Is it jealousy that causes someone to key a car? Hatred? Revenge? "There is a strong creative element in the keying of a car, it's an emotive engagement."
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Clearly this would be criminal damage and if we receive any allegations we will take them very seriously and investigate." Meanwhile, Strathclyde Police said: "We are aware of Mr McGowan and have no comment to make at the moment."

Make sense? I hope so.
Not to some free lawyer it wont. they'll probably get him off with some loophole. maybe people parking in a row was too much of a temptation to the poor soul, who wanted to relive the heady, glory days of his single pass in CSE art. would he like to sue the car owners for mental stress in deciding where to start his work of art?
to (mis)quote myself, its not just criminals who cant tell right from wrong
If it sounds like I have a small axe to grind, then I do. some little scrote keyed my wifes car last year. was caught and identified on cctv. complaint made. charges brought, court appearance, smart suited mouthpiece blah blah blah, out of character, blah blah blah, upset, just split with GF (later came out she kicked him out for beating her up)blah blah blah, unemployed, no money (but got it for fags, beer, nike trainers and 'bling), 3 months suspended.
Now, every time he sees missis, he jangles a bunch of keys, and grins. even been caught doing this on camera. cops dont want to know. they admit privately that with the mouthpiece his family uses, they couldnt make somrthing like this stick.
If anyone wants to maintain that right and wrong (should)have nothing to do with the law then they must be living on a different planet.

sorry for going so far OT, but this is a subject that makes me grit my teeth harder than a proctologist who doesnt cut his fingernails.

They did not like the chain on a stick but also omitted any mention of the pliers with big round jaws.
A strong elastic band round a claw wrench fingers eases its use.
My local garage is advertising a Mondeo zetec 130bhp delivery mileage on a 04 plate for £12995. He is willing to take 200 pounds off the price and that is it. Is this a fair price or should I be pushing for a better deal. I have been a company car driver for 14 years so I am not used to buying my own car.Has anybody any advice. Read more
This is an Arnold Clark in Glasgow. Thanks for the info.

And a 20hp Austin Goodwood that sounds like a V8 and can outrun a Ford Anglia....
"Have a nice life" that's a late C20 saying if I ever heard one (amongst others "Hassle", "stalking" and "mugging") hardly commo pralance of the late 60s.
Not that I watch it....of course.
I recently upgraded my discs and pads from standard to EBC Turbo Groove discs and Greenstuff pads. The change has gone well and as the brakes are bedding in, the braking is improving - with little or no brake dust. Thanks to those who contributed!
Now, I am looking to tackle the rear brakes, which are drums/shoes set up. I have never owned a car with drums/shoes on the rear so this is a novelty for me!
I want to change my brake shoes - but don't know 'what size' of shoes to buy and what I should be measuring to determine which set of shoes to buy. I have spoken to PUG but their parts department haven't been of much help since much of the 205 data has been deleted from their systems so unless I tell them what item I need, they can't help. Can anyone kindly help me out here?
Many thanks! Read more
Quite right GrahamF1. I'm coming to terms with the 'quirks' of my PUG and why they exasperate many who own them and service them ;)
It might take the 40mm shoes as that would make 'sense' but how do you figure this:
My front (vented) discs are the standard 247mm. My car has a 1.9 engine, with the same braking system as the 1.9 GTi (Lucas) yet when it came to fitting the discs, I had an offset for that of a 1.6 GTi (44mm) and NOT as expected of 34mm as for the 1.9 - so just because I have Lucas at the front, I do not take it for granted that I will have Lucas on the rear ;)

Could it be one of the wheel bearings? - you only hear these from a certain speed upwards and it gets louder and louder until at 70 mph it sounds like a hammer drill in the distance. Also, obviously gets worse over time.
