April 2005
Just had a quick scan of new Act that received Royal assent 7th April, 2005, namely The Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005.
The bad news in the motoring field:
Some big changes in that PACE condition of arrest has been extended to include any repeat ANY offence (used to be Arrestable).Sect 110.
Using a vehicle on a road with incorrect details on the Register (DVLA)as Registered Keeper - an offence. Section 150
Driving a motor vehicle not only without Insurance but a Driving Licence then Plod is given power to seize.. Sect 152
Power to Plod to fingerprint you without consent if he catches you committing an offence and doesn't think you have given correct details. Sect 117
Vehicle Registration document added to list that have to be produced on demand but can be delayed for 7 days to Police Station Section 151.
The good news is that , of the above, only the fingerprint comes into force on the date of the Act, the rest awaiting a Commencement Order.

The Xantia has just been serviced and it is the biggest service bill I have ever had for it, but it did include new front brake pads, the MOT Test, refilling with LHM and the replacement of a piece of corroded hydraulic suspension pipe. The total bill was £326 and I hate to think what it would have been at the main dealer. I only have it serviced once a year now, so it is not a massive amount for a year's motoring.
I also had two new tyres on the front last week and the handling is much better balanced, now that the car has Avon tyres all round, even though they are ZV3s on the front and ZV1s on the back.
The garage proprietor has recommended a new radiator (although there are no leaks and no overheating problems), as he says it is beginning to look very tatty. This is sensible, as it has never been replaced in 11 years, so there will be another bill to pay shortly. He reckons it has lasted so long because the coolant has always been replaced at more or less the required intervals.
My wife thinks it is a lot of money to pay on a car that is worth next to nothing but the car is in good shape, and is still lovely to drive. Maintenance has to be done, no matter how old the car is. Read more
Thanks for the info but, no, I am not that way inclined.
The rev counter gave up the ghost finally, after a long period when it would sometimes work and sometimes it wouldn't. I often wondered whether or not it was just a faulty electrical contact somewhere.
Anyone wanting to ring an impreza???

Is there any other legitimate reason why you would want to sell these items on here???

The Seat Leon is due to be replaced by a new model this autumn. How generous are any last minute discounts likely to be?
At the moment there is a pretty standard 7% discount on the model that I am interested in (the 130 BHP TDI SE). If I hold on to September am I likely to get a lot more than that?
Comments from SEAT staff (in confidence!!!) gratefully received

I am changing jobs and will no longer be provided with a company car. I will need to provide my own car, and expect to cover about 30K-35K per year. Can anyone advise me as to the best way to source and finance a reliable medium sized (eg Mondeo) car. I cannot afford to buy one for cash.
Where is the best place to obtain independent advice? Any help welcome.

I went from a BMW 330d estate to a Mondeo Ghia
130 TDCi 6 speed estate. The mondeo doesn't have the
handling of the BMW, but the real world performance isn't too
far behind. Seats are not in the same league though.
The estate is fantastic for wine trips to France!
I've now run mine for 10.000 miles and it gets a
thumbs up.
The Mondeo hatch and saloon have a different rear suspension set up making them sharper than the estate so would give the BMW a run for it's money.

Hi All,
Recently started work on repairing the other halfs Fiesta.
At the moment I have two mains problems with it.
1)The engine dies at full revs when driving and I have to lift off slightly to get power back. Does anyone know what this is - a fuel problem or HT lead?
2) It needs a new clutch. I have got the new plates for it but have realised that this is beyond my capability! How much will I be looking at roughly to have this job done at a local garage ?
There are only 2 garages near me and both have quoted £100 + vat which seems mightily excessive to me just for labour.
Cheers
Andy

I could have gotten a new clutch done on a Mk4 Fiesta for £90. That's taking into account the bloke owes me a few favours.
As RF and Mike have said, £100 = get it done.

"And soon the Police will have to fill out a form every time they stop a person for ANYTHING, be it in street, car, etc."
Not quite true but it makes good copy. They are having to do it now but only when they want to "Stop and Account" or search. They don't have to do it when they stop cars and a HO/RT is issued.
