For the continued discussion of all things pertaining to Speed Cameras.

This is Volume 32.

There is no need to repeat anything since earlier volumes will not be deleted. But then if we only posted original stuff the backroom would grind to a halt in a fortnight.

I wasn't quoting you, I was explaining me. Do try and
keep up.

Accept my appologies Mark. My mistake.

I thought my old Cav V6 was rapid, but it was nothing to the Vectra being driven by the police officer in this story

"A police constable accused of driving at speeds of up to 159mph, has told a court that at no time did he consider he was putting anybody at risk."

"Call me a cynic but I douvt that speed cameras are having much of an effect on the epople who use the roads where they are situated on a reegular basis. The vast majority brake before the camera and accelerate after it."

I doubt anyone would disagree with that observation.

Excuse my ignorance here..
I'm getting a Zafira, I'd like to swap the tape for a CD player. Is it a straightforward swap, or does each manufacturer have its own adaptor. Is there any difference between (say)25W and 50W with the existing speakers?
I find hi-fi rather tedious, I just need to have my REM.... Read more

Johnny,

Look at this site, they sell great equipment very cheap, they also sell any adaptor cables you will need and facia adaptors too (if applicable)

www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/

I have purchased from them on a number of occasions and have never been let down.

(P.S I have NO affiliation with this company)

Hi,just wondering if it is easy to import a pick up from the us,I am going over in September for the first time, while I am there I would like to find out how to get a pick up sent home, with the dollar being so low I think I could pick up a Dakota or Ram fairly reasonable,Ive been checking out prices on ebay and they are really good value about half of those in UK,as I said this is my first time in us so Im a bit wet behind the ears,is it as easy as going to the docks driving onto a boat and then simply wait for it to arrive and then go to the customs and get it cleared then registered/sva/mot/tax,etc,any info greatly recieved, thanks,James. When you say "touristy" and "NY" I would assume you mean NY city in which case you would be hard pressed to find good selection of main dealers in Manhattans...well a Chrysler ones anyway. You would need to head a fair distance out of the city to the surrounding suburbs.

Try www.autotrader.com and enter the vehicle you are looking for in the NY area you will be staying in and see whats available in the vicinity. Also, as NY real estate can be considerably more pricey than other parts of the country I wouldn't be surprised if asking prices for vehicles are higher there. If buying used, you also have to consider that roads are heavily salted during the winter and rust should be expected sooner than in the southern states.

Love reading the weekly report on the above, but any chance of referring to the fact that a car has a year's tax as just that; instead of referring to it as "ticket"

Don't know if this is trade slang or whatever but tax is what the real world calls it!

Other than that, keep it up, most enjoyable!

Not quite as simple as that RF. Estuary is spreading in the SE, but Scouse is spreading into West Lancashire, Cheshire, and North Wales, Mancunian is taking over Derbyshire and East Lancs, Geordie (as opposed to Mackem) is spreading south from Newcastle. Broadly urban accents are taking over; Estuary is most influential outside its base because of the meeja being in London, but bits of Scouse and Geordie are turning up all over as well. Estuary may eventually become the new "standard English" accent, just as R(ecieved) P(ronunciation) used to be. They are not actual languages though, but dialects of English.

Anyway, here's the article that first noted it (in 1984):

Nissan Cefiro. Like a slightly bigger QX. Teana is another god
looking big Nissan.

Cima was what I was thinking of.

Cefiro is the asia-pacific name for the Maxima/QX - it is more or less identical AFAIK. There are some Cefiro's in the UK and also some Cima's (grey imports, obviously).

I haven't looked at a copy of Autotrader or similar for a few months, but the last time I did the front section was full of people offering to 'correct' the digital mileage on your car - for a few tenners.

So, if you have a new engine put in, you can get one of these chaps to come to have the mileage from the old engine put onto the new one. No really.

>>I wouldn't be surprised if this new wave of tiny cars with their economical pricing, practicality plus ease and cheapness of servicing will spell the demise of the entire loss-making Smart car business.

Even more of a threat is the simpler, 'conventional' very small 2 seater car, like the Suzuki Twin

See entry in car by car breakdown on this site.

As far as I know, it's not available here yet. Also a hybrid petrol / electric version is available. I read too that Smart is talking about supplying engines for the Twin. Another threat to the Smart is the French style microcar like the Aixam, which is lighter and slower and qualifies as a quadricycle.

If I was in the market for a very small car I'd only want it as a town runabout or country lane pootler, so I wouldn't be interested in a high cruising speed.

smokescreen

Hi there,

Recently brought a P plate 306 DTurbo.

I was told the heater plugs were changed, but after seeing it blow out a bit of white smoke 5 mins later from a cold start.

Now I was told by a mechanic that this is normal behaviour, but im wondering whether more glow plugs need to be changed, as I think 5mins could be a bit excessive for the engine to warm up.

Any thoughts? How are the other 306 diesel drivers getting along, 5mins too to warm up?

Cheers. Read more

I think the new direct injection engines take longer than indirect injection diesels. Our Xantia warms up much quicker than the C5.
