How to fit a CD player? - johnny
Excuse my ignorance here..
I'm getting a Zafira, I'd like to swap the tape for a CD player. Is it a straightforward swap, or does each manufacturer have its own adaptor. Is there any difference between (say)25W and 50W with the existing speakers?
I find hi-fi rather tedious, I just need to have my REM....

If the connectors dont match you can get a lead to convert.Cost around £12..power output difference. Will depend on how its stated...Ie PMPO.Music power.Or RMS. Rms is the true value of power output. It means equivalent power in volts. So if your speakers are only capable OF say 8 watts.None specified value/as marked on speaker.. with a modern Radio Tape/CD player. It should in most cases exceed speaker volume capabilities. You will notice difference in sound quality though

As steve rightly says, look at the wattage values carefully to make sure you're looking at the RMS output not the PMPO output. IIRC, PMPO is the maximum power output of the amp, whereas RMS is the (root) mean (square) power output. Again, make sure this is per channel and not total of all 4 (or 2).

I don't think you'll need new speakers. Besides installing bigger ones and/or spending large amounts of money I doubt you'll notice any difference: neither I did in my Escort nor my mate did in his Ka. If the car's got mad acoustics then it's just tough cookie and new speakers won't solve it. Road noise will drown out any improved quality you percieve. If anything, you're better off (unless you're planning on turning the volume up really loud) buying as powerful a head unit as possible for your speakers, as this will limit the chance of 'clipping'* which damages the speakers. I'd recommend 50W per channel, maybe more.

* clipping is what you get when the amp can't cope with the power you're trying to get out of it and you end up squaring off the top of the sound wave, leading to distortion, particularly prevalent in the bass.

Johnny,

Look at this site, they sell great equipment very cheap, they also sell any adaptor cables you will need and facia adaptors too (if applicable)

www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/

I have purchased from them on a number of occasions and have never been let down.

(P.S I have NO affiliation with this company)
