I recently upgraded my discs and pads from standard to EBC Turbo Groove discs and Greenstuff pads. The change has gone well and as the brakes are bedding in, the braking is improving - with little or no brake dust. Thanks to those who contributed!
Now, I am looking to tackle the rear brakes, which are drums/shoes set up. I have never owned a car with drums/shoes on the rear so this is a novelty for me!
I want to change my brake shoes - but don't know 'what size' of shoes to buy and what I should be measuring to determine which set of shoes to buy. I have spoken to PUG but their parts department haven't been of much help since much of the 205 data has been deleted from their systems so unless I tell them what item I need, they can't help. Can anyone kindly help me out here?

Hi, ihpj - I'm surprised your Pug dealer has no way of helping you. You must have a local indie capable of something? Also try Google for Peugeot Club UK - they will help out.
Actually your problem may turn out to be freeing off brake parts and getting the drums off, which will probably have a nice rim on the back edge.

As far as i'm aware the rear brake shoes on the gentry are the same as the 1.6 GTI.

Your best bet is to strip the drums down, then see what parts you need. It's possible there was more than make of brake parts fitted, and you generally can't tell till you get the drums off. It may well need new wheel cylinders, and when you remove these you will probably break the pipes. You may also find the drums are worn beyond the limit and need replacing, and depending on the set up this may entail new wheel bearings. If you're really lucky some fool will have been there before you, lost the working parts of both auto adjusters, and mashed the thread on a stub axle. Did this job on my ZX a few months back, can you tell...???

Thanks for the input guys...now y'all have got me worried about tackling the rear brakes :P Since the front discs were originals (with only the front pads ever being repalced @ 35K) I'm not sure if the rears ever saw any kind of service, or what condition they might be in. Time for one of those 'free' Break Checks methinks? :0)

Just overhauled the rear brakes on a mate's 205 1.6 GTi, so learnt a little about these recently.
Rear brakes vary on the 205. Can either be Girling or Bendix - no way of telling apart from taking the drums off (32mm socket on hub nut). When you can tell the dealer which brand you need, he should sort you out.
I think the Gentry has the same 'wider' shoes and drums as the 1.6 GTi. This is in contrast to the narrow shoes and drums on other trim levels (except of course the rear discs on the 1.9 GTi).

Quite right GrahamF1. I'm coming to terms with the 'quirks' of my PUG and why they exasperate many who own them and service them ;)
It might take the 40mm shoes as that would make 'sense' but how do you figure this:
My front (vented) discs are the standard 247mm. My car has a 1.9 engine, with the same braking system as the 1.9 GTi (Lucas) yet when it came to fitting the discs, I had an offset for that of a 1.6 GTi (44mm) and NOT as expected of 34mm as for the 1.9 - so just because I have Lucas at the front, I do not take it for granted that I will have Lucas on the rear ;)
