March 2005
Hi
I am looking at trading in my N Reg Tigra 1.4 which has 111k on the clock. Does anyone have a realistic valuation of the car at part ex? I have been on parkers and other sites and the general idea is around the £1500 mark.
However, I have been to a local dealer whom has only offered £1250. It is is good condition and is the Ltd Verde edition so thought it would be worth slightly more. I am not sure if this is the actual market price or if the dealer is just trying to pull a fast one.
Thanks

As I await a test drive in a Mondeo ST tdci, I noticed that Ford are offering a £2000 p/x allowance. Is this over and above the book price or is it a case of £2000 for any piece of junk. Anybody any knowledge? Read more
Ah! But I'm just a boy in blue as opposed to a sharp suited chap who drinks all the tea in custody while he fills in the legal aid forms. :-). I'm struggling to afford the mondeo.
SWMBO sees me sitting in a new car in the new fiscal year coming up (tax reasons). I am personally very happy, but would entertain a new 330d if I had a gun to my head. Just checked out the BMW site and there is no mention of six cylinder diesel, what's happening ? Read more
Good point PU!

Does anyone know the windscreen washer reservoir capacity of the Xsara 2.0 hdi diesel estate? The handbook usefully tells you that it is 3.5/7 Lts depending on model, having lumped the saloons and estates together on the same page.
Problem is that you can't see how much is in the reservoir and so it is difficult to make up solution of additive if you don't know how much you need. Definitely a design fault on this car. Read more
What I was about to suggest - make up 3.5litres worth and pour it in. If it's not full, do it again...
A collegue has just been offered a V70 on a '04 plate with less than 10k on the clock from a main dealer in S spec with the 2.0T engine. This will be used as a company car.
We have negotiated to £16,500 which to me seems a cracking deal.
I am not familiar with the engine though. Anyone tried one that can give me feed-back? Is it smooth, economical (in the real world - I ignore the 'Combined' figures).
I am doing calculations on tax for him tonight and would love to know how to find out it's list price in March 2004. Any ideas? Read more
My pleasure. If your colleague is even half as happy with their V70 as I am with mine, they will still be very happy indeed.
The Pezzer tribe are off to Italy for a week in early April via Stanstead - is Pink Elephant the only option to park, or are there other/better options which dont involve too much messing about as it is an early morning flight?
P.S. Travelling from Southampton do I go clockwise or anti-clockwise on the M25 ?
Thanks folks Read more
Wow, thanks folks for all the ideas and advice.
I particually like the meet and greet scheme - although I just hope I am not giving my car keys to a scrote who takes the car off and has a week's free transport or worse ... :-)
I think the concensus reckon that clockwise is the best if travelling early, that was my guess too !
Thanks again
SWMBO, has summoned up some interest in a 77k T plate example of the above to replace her much loved but elderly Spacewagon. Its up for £5395 (trade) which seems about ok with a bit of room for haggling.
Does anybody have any views on either the car or the price ?
Thanks in advance P Read more
Well I've just paid 6K + my old Omega for a high milage 2001X elegance; although your original price does sound a bit high; several 1.8 elegances I went after had been sold the day they went on sale.
In terms of build quality then over in the CBC HJ specifically mentions the good build quality, the one I've just bought has no rattles or squeeks at 82K . A tad low geared for motorway work mind you, 60 mph = 3000 rpm in top, so a little noisy
I have a 1999 Primera Sport+, in which the ABS triggers at about 10mph. It does this whether I'm slowing down or speeding up (I can hear the actuator, and feel it in the pedal if I'm braking).
It's particularly bad in slow traffic, as at 10mph it's going continuously!
The warning light doesn't come on (except on first turning the key, as it should), and the brakes generally are perfectly OK.
I have a copy of the service manual, and I've checked the resistance of all four sensors - they all come in between 1.62 and 1.68kohm which is comfortably within spec.
With no warning light, the system presumably doesn't think it has a fault - so it seems pointless trying to get it to flash out error codes.
Without access to real-time diagnostics I'm stumped, so all I'm asking before I hand over my wallet to the dealer is: does anyone know of a fault in this or any car that gives these symptoms?
Also - are most auto-electricians well placed to investigate this kind of thing, or do I need dedicated Nissan diagnostic kit and hence the main dealer?
Many thanks
PS I've seen earlier posts on this, so I suspect there is a common fault with Primeras. Read more
Glad to be of service. It always seems to be the nearside ones that fail - presumably because there are more potholes, drain holes etc on the near side and, ahem, people do occasionally hit kerbs (not suggesting that was the case here..).
i am abit of a novice but have some rust below the centre pillar below the door and have heard old wife tales about remedies. I would appreciate some tips or somebody telling me to go to halfords Read more

a. was really good at his job or
b. a smug policeman?

The Traffic Cops episode mentioned was a 'taster' episode for a completely new series that was filmed in the second half of 2004 and is due for transmission soon.
The new series, I am told, has been filmed entirely with Cheshire Police, as opposed to South Yorks for the previous programmes.

I'm not suprised as some editions did not have a good reputation. The yellow "MTV Summertime" edition, for example, was renowned for its poor quality paintwork. The later Chequers and Marine editions have colours that suit the car better.
If the car is in decent nick it would make sense to sell it privately to some young person now that spring is in the air....
