Help

Has any body every chipped their car? I have just just chipped my seat toledo and I can't really see any difference in the cars performance.

Do I need to have the engine tuned to the chip?

It's the 1.9TDi 110bhp, it's quick but not quick enough hence the chip, I think I'll end up getting caught speeding anyway so I might as well get caught in a fatser car.

Yeh, way to go. Why only get 3 points when you can go the whole hog and get a ban!.

I have purchased a 1998 saab 93 SE turbo Auto.
I think the turbo may not be working, mainly because it seems pretty under powered. drives fine, very smooth, but has no turbo boost feeling about, i used to have a low pressure 93 and it had a lot, lot more power.
Is there an easy way to check if the turbo is gone?
Is it likely that the turbo may be repairable or will it definately need a replacement if it has gone?

And slightly different question, how can i find out if it is an Low Pressure Turbo model (LPT) or the high pressure version. the log book just says TURBO SE (helpful!!)

Thanks in advance.

Simbad - if the dashboard has a turbo boost guage it is the full pressure (185 bhp) version, if not then the 154 bhp LPT.

I'm sure you've all seen the images of Saab 9000's slalom(ming) between cones in succession whilst being put through their paces. Well - I got emailed a link to a video made by Saab years ago and I have to say, it is absolutely amazing. The men driving those cars truly have a gift.

I will warn you - it you're not on broadband, don't bother. If you are and you don't want to watch it all, skip to 6:45 in and watch.

I guarantee you'll be impressed nigh on....very impressed!

It's being cheerful keeps me going!

I see that oil for April delivery has been achieving record prices and all garages round my way have upped their prices by around 3p per litre already.

My back of envelope calculations relative to the £ to $ exchange rate suggest we could be looking at 86-88p per litre in the very near future.

Anyone else had a go at this? Read more

I read that LPG has had a massive tax hike in the budget.
Sorry but can't remember details (40p or 40% extra tax?).

Not so far as I can see: www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/media/AA7/7A/bud05_chapA_14...f

A93 The Government today announces, with effect from 1 September 2005, a narrowing of the duty differential for liquefied petroleum gas by one penny in 2005-06, and again in 2006-07 and 2007-08. The duty differential between natural gas and main road fuels will
remain the same for the next three years.

I am a first-time car owner of 1 1/2 years. Recently I rear-ended a vehicle, and my car was taken to a local repairers. I was told that my car would be ready in 2 weeks. I have a courtesy car. After 3 weeks, I gave them a call and was told that the boss was away because his son was ill. I called them again today and was told my car would be ready this coming week. That makes it 1 1/2 months since it was taken in. Do I have any grounds to seek compensation from my insurer for the extra time I have had to wait for my vehicle to be returned to me? Has anyone had this problem and what did they do?

thanks Read more

'Are you still paying for your motor through finance? I wouldn't want to be paying for something I wasn't having the use of.'

Ahhh, that hits the nail on the head, yes, still paying for this car I havent driven for 6 weeks, 2 be honest that is the biggest reason I feel hard done by!

'I doubt that Jessice is saying the Micra is better than the Polo! I had a Micra as a hire car the other day and while it had a/c, electric windows and mirors and a trip computer it wasn't much fun, or even comfortable, to drive! '

a/c? electric mirrors? trip computer? wow, this micra is the bottom of the range as far as I can see... whereas my polo had all those things...

Thanks everyone for your comments, I had an email from HJ saying basically that the delay is most probably due to waiting for parts. But as someone new to the world of motoring, I still am surprised what you guys put up with? If say I had ordered a table from a dept store and was told delivery was in 2 weeks, and had to wait 6, I would complain... why is a car any different?

Definitely get a quote online from DaimlerChrysler Insurance. They were the
cheapest by far when I had a Jeep and were superb
when my wife wrote it off.

I did like the sound of their coverage but they were £150 dearer for me, with a bigger excess, and they wouldn't do protected NCB as I'm coming from a company car. They told me no insurance company would protect my NCB - Frizzell offered both protected and guaranteed NCB cover.

Hi,

My dad brought a jaguar xk8 in july - and he extended the warranty for the car through jaguar in January at a cost of £1100 for 12 months. Anyway, he has decided that it may be best to sell the car for a 4 door vehicle - where does he stand in terms of cancelling the extended guarantee?

He looked at the policy and it doesnt give a lot of detail. Would appreciate some help - although I work in the car industry, I am incertain where he stands.

Thanks,

Not unheard of, but he can't insist on it - although if it can't be cancelled it probably can be transferred. Ultimately, unless there is someone on here who knows the small print of Jaguar warranties then all we can really do is refer you to them, and to their own small print.

OK, split the budget into 5 and allow 1 part for the storage of the cars.

Happy now?!

LOL, Have fun (and I know a 635CSI specialist for when it breaks down, just let me know!).

Now the weather is better it's tempting to have windows open, and the heating system switched off. When I came home yesterday, using a dual carriageway near Northampton the moron in front threw out a cigarette, which bounced and then smacked into my windscreen, going, I think, over the top. I'm sure I had just closed all the windows. Fortunately, after a careful inspection, there was nothing there, but what a thoughtless thing to do. I might have had grandchildren with me, another time. Do "in between change" oil additives have any real benefits?

Is there any evidence whether different brands of fuels are of varying quality?

I would particularly like to find some objective independent test results.

I would agree with most that has been said, used Slick 50, ruined a Honda engine with Moly Koat?? but the fuels have come a l o n g way and the Shell/ BP extra brands are worth the money, by the by Millers Diesel Plus raises the Cetane value by around 2.5 points - me Passat pulls 4.5k RPM on a good cold day!!
