What kind of head problem are you talking about?

i.e. is it head gasket, cam, valves, tappets, unexplained noises, etc?

The only thread I've found is about the Carlton cam siezing but this is certainly pre '98 www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=18877&...f

Can anyone advise me as what mkay be the cause of all the instruments just stopping. Everything stops just as if the ignition had been switched off only the car stays running and the head lights work all else fails. It started off with just the wipers now it is everything. The ignition switch appears to be working correctly

All help would be greatly appreciated

This also happened to my C5(2.2HDI)on Saturday. Dry road, steady 70 on cruise control: suddenly automatic wipers, lights cruise and radio deactivated and restarted. Trip meters and computer not affected. Service light came on, but cleared when ignition next started.
Taking to dealer for diagnostic check.

On the basis that some members have objected to this discussion I have decided to pull it.

This is one of those subjets that are quite acceptable to many people yet there are those that find it out of place here and may for good reason find it unacceptable.

So on that point I suggest you all agree to disagree. I feel in this case that the'cost' to the objectors outweigh the benefits of the discussion to the non objectors.

I know I won't please everyone.

i've decided to get either a 306 hdi or a focus 1.8 zetec.(i don't want to get an elderly 306 turbo and i don't think much of the ford diesel.)

i've only got 4k to spend - the 306s i've seen are all 80-100k miles with some good examples of focuses at 60-70k.
i need it to last 3 years (15k ish p.a.)

which is the better buy? Read more

All car's economy plummet when driven hard, especially forced induction. On the other end of the scale, I managed 60 mpg on a long very gently motorway cruise, keeping to 60mph all the way and accelerating gently (well I was in plenty on time to get to Stansted airport for a 0630 hrs flight)

For the last week or so I have been deluged by car insurance junk mail. As far as I know, I have never divulged to anyone that my insurance comes up for renewal on Feb 1st (well, except to you lot just now!) and only my present insurers know. So how do the others find out? Surely my ins. company doesn't tell them does it? (our customer's insurance needs renewing, please send him some tempting offers)

When they ring to tell you that you've won a prize, keep them on the line as long as possible.

Then, as they reach the end of their spiel, inform them that you've only listened for so long to waste their time and therefore lower their commission, increase their employer's manpower costs, and to maximise their phone bill.

They tend to hang up and not call back.

Don't you know that it is unacceptable to post anything positive
about Golfs or VWs in general? 8-).
How can I get a GTi for a weekend?. Not
because I like GTis mind you, I just want one so
I can find things to complain about.

Trancer,

Well said!

Of course a VW will never be as good as a Skoda or Seat.

Irony is still allowed in the BR - albeit not understood by all it seems!

Recent garage job on my Mondeo Tdci to cure an intermittent problem with the engine cutting out. Replacement camshaft sensor seems so far to have done the trick (fingers crossed). Any tekkies out there know what a camshaft sensor does?

Hi,

In response to my italicised point at the bottom (not meant to be btw, only meant to italicise the 'x') {Sorted. DD}, I had a think, and is it necessary for engines with multi-point fuel injection for injector timing? Certainly would be needed on cars with distributorless ignition and coil packs on each sparking plug I would have thought?

Took my new motor back to the dealers the other day because when tuned in to an AM Radio Station I get lound interference which normally obscures the broadcast and in sometimes is actually very loud, when I go under power lines.

Now whilst I accept this is hardly earthshattering in its importance
I have been listening to the same Radio Stations and driving on the same roads for about ten years now in three or four different cars and I certainly dont remember experiencing this in them. In fact it takes me back to when i was a kid in one of my Dad's many Rover 2200s, since I recall interferance going under power lines.

Dealer's response after having tested the car was to confirm what I was saying is true, tested another car which did exactly the same thing, apparetly tested the Radio and Aerial, which were apparently working perfectly and then said sorry sir there is nothing more I can do.

Now this may be the case and frankly I will probably live with it but I do find it a bit strange that Radio interference seem to have made a come back !

Am I being fobbed off ?

Only one way to find out, Pezzer, but that would affect the audio stage rather than the radio tuning side of things. If it had any effect at all -- which I doubt, unless mp3 were selected with nothing plugged in and the volume wound well up -- it would probably be by way of hiss on sound. It sounds a very swish motor!

Hi,
I have a peugeot 106 diesel 1994 model, which needs a complete set of steel wheel rims. The previous wheels (alloys) were of size 165/65/R13.

I am having trouble finding 13" steel rims for this car.
Can I use 14" rims, or would this make the steering more heavy? The car doesnt have power steering, and I wouldn't want to make it any heavier.

Also does anybody know whether I can use 13" ford wheel rims from a fiesta or Ford Ka?

Thanks

Are your peugeot wheels 3 stud or 4 stud? If I remember correctly Citroen Saxo steel rims tend to be 3 stud. A Saxo would be a good bet though because of its relation to the 106.
