could you please give advice for renault - 1066
hi im going to purchase a grande scenic on motability. has anyone got one? and have you had any problems? ive never had a renault before so dont know what to expect. ive heard they have bad build quality? we are going for the dynamique 1.6 petrol.
im going for test drive on sunday.

the 1.6 petrol in Grande Scenic guise is underpowered. I have had 6 years of Renault and found them no problem at all.

You will like driving it tho - betcha.

No better or worse than the majority of the popular marques.

Curious as to why you would choose to buy a vehicle of specific make, model and engine capacity without, apparently, having little in depth knowledge of such a car or even driven it?

The Badgermobile is a Renault -- a 2.0 litre RXE auto Mégane that has just had its 8 year/80,000 mile service. Apart from the usual consumables, it has had one of the two ignition coils replaced, and that was causing a misfire, not a dead engine.

Badger was previously registered as Stripey

He's pleased with it.

What is the deal with Motability - does it work like a personal contract hire, where it takes care of all the maintenance etc and you just hand the car back after (say) 3 yrs?

well motabbility is a company, who if you are disabled you can use your mobility benefit to put towards a car . im on my second as the first one (a c-max) which broke down .motability cancelled the contract now ive ordered a megane. the motability group are really good.they dont take any rubbish from the dealers. they take care of all mots, tax, insurance, free repairs on tyres by a known garage. free servicing. but the hard part ive found from other people , is you have every car from all of these dealers and its hard to get the right one for you.

Pleased to hear you got that C-Max contract sorted out.

thanks. im glad as well. i was really stressed throughout the whole situation.i didnt know that a car could get you down so much! anyway im going for a test drive in a grande scenic this morning.they look pretty classy. and when i sat in it last week it felt ok too.so i will let you know later how it went....

well i had my test drive of the renault.megane ,and im not sure what to make of it.we were going to order a 1.6 vvt scenic and we test drove a 2.0 diesel (not sure what was going on there).but the drive was smooth the kids were comfortable.but there was one thing that bothered me.the bloke who came with us made me sit in the back,he said that it was for insurance purposes! was that right? it felt rushed. i like the idea of having a 7 seater and the comfort, but its the fuel economy im worried about.

Sounds odd to say the least. Maybe he thought you might seize hold of the wheel half-way round the route!

1.6 petrol and 2.0 Diesel would feel very different cars.

The Grande scenic comes in

1.6 petrol, 2.0 petrol.

1.5 diesel and 1.9 diesel.

The 1.9 diesel and 1.5 diesel will give you more economy than the 1.6 or 2.0 petrol.

I can't imagine any insurance that wouldn't let you sit in the front! Are you wheelchair bound and he was thinking (somewhat patronisingly, especially if you had to drive the thing) that it'd be easier for you to escape in the event of an accident if you were behind, and so didn't want to put himself in a position to be sued. (It'd be very hard to make that legal argument but that's the only thought process I can begin to envisage unless he was trying to hide something).

Incidentally, with much more torque and a little more power, the 1.9 diesel would probably suit the Grand Scénic rather better than the 1.6 petrol. Of course, on Motability I imagine that there'd be quite a difference in the advance payment.

i know that we would have to pay about £795 for a diesel where as the petrol is around £200 advance payment. i think that the car was nice but we do so many miles each day myself to hospital kids school runs three times a day.so a diesel would be better .im not in a wheel chair, but i do have bad legs. plus the test drive was for 15minutes and we were told where to go!
i just dont know what went wrong.

Assuming 76.9p/litre for petrol and 80.9p for diesel, it would take 33,000 miles for the diesel to pay for itself (at 35mpg for the petrol and 45mpg for the diesel).

The 1.5 diesel would be more economical again (50+ mpg I'd have thought) and so pay for itself in a shorter time, but less powerful.

The 1.5 dCi should be considered a bad choice for the Scenic Grande, very underpowered for that car.

>>he said that it was for insurance purposes!>>

Tell him just exactly where to stick his Renault and go to a more accommodating dealer elsewhere.

How on earth can you discover whether you could live with a car if you never get to drive it on a "test drive"?

Might be worth ringing the dealership principal and querying why you were not allowed to drive the vehicle.

Such nonsence makes my blood boil...:-))

after all of the commotion ive got another c-max. its a diesel and it would be better for me. so the renault is a no no. im pleased with my decision. now i can get on and hopefully enjoy my car
