I have recently aquired a Mazda MX6 and I have a problem with the heater. The heater takes forever to start outputing heat. A few nights ago I was driving home and I noticed the temp gauge was aproaching max so I pulled to the side of the road and switched off, I turned the ignition back on so that I could watch the temp gauge. All of sudent the temperature started to drop rapidly and at the same time the heater started pumping heat into the car. From that point on everything was fine for the rest of the journey home.
I have an idea what the problem may be but not being very savi in this area would appreciate the considered opinion of the more experienced amoung you. Read more

Just had an email from Speedferries, the budget Dover-Boulogne fast ferry service. There is a documentary on next Tues 18th Jan at 2150 on BBC2, "Trouble at the top". Should make interesting viewing! Read more
Does this stuff work? You spray it on and it reflects the speed camera flash back so well that it overexposes the film & disguises your number plate.

Why did they waste their time making it an offence to
use it then ?
Tell me about it, it's like making attempted murder a crime. I mean, it's not like you've killed someone ;)
I suppose it's just 'an attempt to pervert the course of justice'
Cavalier mk 3, one of the fuel hoses (on the low-pressure side of the pump) is 12mm i.d. but nobody seems to stock above 10mm i.d. However, the rad-to-expansion tank hose is 12mm and fits. It looks the same, braided etc, obviously up to higher pressure than the fuel inlet, and is obviously resistant to chemicals eg ethyl glycol. The question is would it be ok as a long-term fix for the fuel line?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry steve.o. I didn't read your post closely enough to see I was repeating your bit about cutting off the old pipe end.
Hi all,
Just a quick query I have been told at my MOT I will need two new lower wishbone arms shortly, on my Ford Fiesta XR2i (1991, as they are beggining to start creaking.
My question is cannot I not just replace all the bushes in each arm to rectify the prob or do I need to replace the actual arm complete, as does the actual metal fatique over time as i cannot see any corrosion? any advise much appreiciated.
Thanks

I've got a feeling that the bushes in these are inbuilt into the wishbone and are not replaceable, but don't quote me on this. Anyway a pair of new non-genuine wishbones from a motor factors will be fairly cheap anyway. Its a very commonly replaced item on fiesta and escorts and it will be a lot easier to change the complete wishbones that trying to fit bushes into old wishbones.
Please help,
Recently my car has been making a noise which I can only describe as the sound of wind blowing through the car.
The faster I drive the louder the noise gets.
I have made sure that the sun roof and all windows are closed properly. Could it be that it is blowing through the engine or exhaust system?
Please help.

Now I understand why so many people seem to be driving around with their main beams and/or foglights on all the time. It's all down to global dimming - the lastest terminal phenomenon scientists have discovered which is apparently going to wipe us all out if global warming doesn't get us first! (see Horizon on BBC2 tonight). It's all down to air pollution and you know what that means. Read more
Thanks for that link Roger. Is the pdf document restricted to personal use only do you know? Should not like to infringe someones copyright by printing it and giving the finished hard copy to a friend if this would be illegal/unethical???

i was thinking of a n/p plate 3 series compact (got a dog) and have seen a few nice examples around £3500-£4000.
i've read the reviews including h-j's but wondered if anyone had any thoughts over and above the usual things to look out for.

But you are going back a few years. Things move on.
Fair point.

I would seriously consider not driving this car until you have sorted this problem.
It *could* be the thermostat, but I doubt it (water circulates through the heater matrix even when the thermostat is closed).
Could be an airlock or problem with circulation (puump).
I would ask a mobile mechanic to come around and check it out on your driveway - you don't want to overheat the engine and write-off the car.
