Anybody had any news of the cooling fans on Alhambra TDi (2002) staying on while parked and locked?
This caused a flat battery very quickly and need roadside assistance. The RAC man went immediately to the relays and disconnected them. He then charged my battery and reinstated the relay module. The car is so far OK. He advised changing the module. Seat do not supply the same unit but an alternative which requires a loom modification. This unfortunately will cost money. Any ideas?

Check out www.alarmremotes.co.uk Look at the section entitled Transponder keys, check out the list and you will find some info about Ford keys. It may be of some help.
I just acquired a set of 205 1.9 GTi wheels (the speedlines) to put on my 306 as i have always liked them. However im not sure what wheel bolts to use with them? Do i need special bolts - and do these need to be the flat type or tapered? Anyone got any ifo for me?
cheers Read more
I upgraded my DTurbo to XSI alloys and my wifes XR to my DTurbo alloys.
I got a set of bolts from a scrap yard, I was surprised that thay we quite common - 205, 306, 406 all have the same THREAD LENGTH and WASHERS. So any will fit, you just need to make sure that they are the right length so they do not stick out of the wheel (XSI bolts are very long)
Bottom line try a couple of local scrap yards...
I'd like help replacing the air filter on my 2001 VW Polo 1.0
It seems to be under a large black plastic cover that has two screws holding it in, but I cannot remove this without undoing all sorts of pipes and leads, which I am nervous about doing.
Any help gratefully received!

Hi,
I have a diesel N reg Peugeot 106. Starting has been getting gradually worse up to a point where it requires priming every time to start now. Further investigation has led me to a diesel leak above the fuel filter housing. When priming diesel leaks quite fast out of the outlet above the fuel filter. When the engine is running air bubbles can be seen in the clear pipe running from the filter to the pump.
See picture at:
www.broxsolutions.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/filter.jpg
What is causing the leak, and is there anything I can do to fix it?
Thanks,
Nick

it is a known rare problem. Buy a new (or s/h) filter housing.
The housing distorts I believe (SWMBO's car has been trouble free in this respect)

Hey guys, I have a 97 R Dturbo 3door and quite luckily not suffering con rod failure as some of the other guys.
What am I AM suffering is that I'm about to throw a con rod at the car quite soon.
The main prob is that after over 30,000 miles of owning the car total mileage approx 85k 2nd hand) the drivers side door panel has decided to come adrift at the corner where the lock mechanism is. I swapped the fasteners over from other places on the card to maybe avoid it being just loose but problem persists. It makes for notchy door opening and maybe this is a coincidence but the drivers window fell out today due to a cracked spigot on the lifting arm.
This is seriously getting on my nerves, I have had to wedge the window in the UP position, not good when I have frequent journeys of over 250mls. I can set about getting replacement spigot etc on the mechanism but door panel problem is V frustrating
Cheers guys

I would welcome a bit of advice about what I should pay for a 2nd hand car. I need to change my current Passat for a similar sized car asap. My wife and I have trawled around the local garages and have decided on either a year old Passat or a year old Mondeo. We would like an Accord or a CRV but don't want to pay that much money. We have seen the following cars and would like some advice on the prices we should be aiming to pay.
1. 1.8 petrol Passat, S. 13,700 miles on an 04 plate. VW asking price £10,900. Parkers Guide has a retail price for this car at 10,000 miles of £11,300; this price is for a car not from a franchised dealer and not in an 'approved car' scheme. The Passat is from a franchise and is from an approved car scheme. We have not seen this car; it is on the VW website as a VW stock car which my local dealer can get for me. This would work thus: test drive a similar car (maybe a higher spec), agree a price and pay a deposit. When the car comes I don't have to buy it if I don't like it for some reason after driving and inspecting it (I get the impression it has to be a pretty good reason) and walk away with my deposit returned.
2. 1.8 Mondeo LX, 12,000 miles 04 plate. Ford Direct asking price £8,950. Parkers price for a 10,000 miler is £9,720 on the same basis as above.
My current car is a 1998 Passat 20v with 96,000 on the clock which is worth £2,250/£1870 for private/trade in respectively according to Parkers. It is in very good nick for such a car: a bit of wear around the gear lever cover thingy and a dodgy electric rear window. Oh, and when the cam belt snapped 2 weeks before Xmas I had all the valves renewed! The dealer I would be getting the car from is the one who did the fixing. Will this affect the trade-in value if I go there? Would another VW dealer know this from the computer database?
I have a couple of questions:
What should I aim to pay for either of the above cars.
Should I trade in my current car or sell it privately? I have been told that I can get £500 off straightaway not having a trade-in. Is this true? I've not yet got an Autotrader to check on current prices and market for a 6 year old Passat.
i will be paying cash. Will this make a difference? I've been told different things: no finanance means no commission so a higher price and cash today via a Switch card is worth another £500 off.
Fianlly: how does one go about haggling down the price of a car; what weapons can one use?. For both the above cars the forcourt price is less than Parkers so that's no use. I hear all sorts of stories about getting a good price not really how to do it I can imagine it wil go like this:
Me: I'll give you £9,000
VW: We'll go to £10,500.
Me: Er, OK
Help. (I know I can simply walk away of course)
Cheers

We want to change the Passat for a couple of reasons:
1. I get a car allowance instead of a car at work. This scheme dictates how old and how many miles an eligable car should be. The Passat is just outside the age limit and close to the miles.
2. Just before xmas the camblet snapped (I was misled by a VW garage about when to change it. Doh!). Currently the car is worth about £2000 and it cost me £900 to fix it. It seems a good time to get rid, at least now I get about £1100 from it.
3. After the snappy cambelt it does not seem to drive correctly. The engine seems a bit 'hesitant' and not as powerful as it was. Hard to explain, it just seems 'different'
All these factors suggest to me time for a change.
Where do we stand tax wise on LPG? the government were going to tax it more as it changed its mind on its environmental credentials(Hmm..). Has it happened yet? or is it held up with the other petrol/diesel increases announced in the budget but delayed. The reason why I ask is a nearby Morrisons supermarket were selling LPG at 29.9p/litre!, nearly a third of the price of diesel at 83.9p/litre.
Should I be driving down to the nearest LPG converter?

You need to do the maths to justify conversion costs. I converted my Range Rover with pay back of 12 months based on my mileage.
As for Gordan Browns cash grab, I think the tax on LPG is to stay the same for the forseeable future.
