January 2005
Today I came home to an exciting black package from Fiat Marketing.
Ripping it open revealed an x-box cd/dvd holder saying test driver 2005. Oooo WOW
Excitingly opening the authentic looking X-box holder reveals ....... NO CD OR DVD
Instead Fiat are calling special editions of stilo and punto "x-box" The cd holder is full of rubbish saying "dont play games enjoy the real thing"
Well thanks for nothing FIAT
NOTHING on earth would make me consider buying any Fiat, hell would have to freeze over to a depth of 50,000 leagues before I would consider it now.

What's the Backroom record for an outstanding insurance claim?
Nine months ago, in April last year, my son was stationary at traffic lights in central London when he was sideswiped from the right by a French tour coach. The passenger door was pushed in about 6". The coach driver admitted liability and gave insurance details.
Our insurance company sent an assessor to our address, looked at the car(a G reg.3-door Civic in excellent condition, apart from the damage)and said that he'd arrange with our local garage for repairs to be carried out.
Later that day I received a call from a salvage company to say that the car had been written off, and would I remove all personal belongings before it was collected.
I got back to the insurers and said I wanted to retain the car and have it repaired at my expense, and asked them to send the write off value, which they estimated at £350.
However, the car was subject to an excess of £200, so a cheque for £150 would be posted to us, and the £200 would follow when they'd got it from the coach's insurance company.
The car was fitted with a door from a breaker's yard for a cost of £100 including spraying.
Despite about a dozen phone calls and 4 letters, we're still waiting. How long do I give them before I consider the small claims court? Any advice much appreciated.

SHMBO was knocked off her scooter on 14/02/2003, so it's now 23 months and still not settled.
They did make an interim payment though.
I got knocked off on 12/10/2004 and haven't received a penny yet, despite funding bike repairs, clothing and three weeks' train fares so far: about £600 out of pocket.
Hiya folks, Any help here would be appreciated.I have a Mondeo diesel, (`99, endura type belt drive, 1.8td) which I suspect of underfuelling. The pistons are all white on top and the heater plugs have burnt away, and the engine shudders when idling as though misfiring and lacks power at speed. The turbo blows.
Is there provision to increase the fuel delivery on this Bosch diesel pump? Thanks guys

We have a fairly new 1.6 Focus, and it has an unusual anomaly.
Namely, when it is cold it starts fine and also when it is hot it starts and ticks over fine.
However when it is 'warmish' ie left for say 2 hours after having been Hot, when you start the engine, it starts okay and you can drive off okay, but if you leave it to idle, the engine will not settle to a staedy idle. Instead the engine just hunts or oscillates between say 750 and 1400 revs.
Any ideas ? Read more
My 1.8 Zetec Focus did the same thing but more so when cold. I mentioned this when I took it in for a service and they did some sort of engine management upgrade on warranty. Touch wood it's behaved since!

Hi all,
6 months ago I bought a new Battery for my RS Escort. I drove the car about 10 miles back in July in order for it to fail it's MOT.
I've left the car in the garage sinse. I tried to start it today and it was as dead as dead.
I am now charging the battery, and will leave it charging overnight. What are the odds on the battery being knackered. Does allowing a car battey to drain 'FULLY' do it good instead of bad?

Go for an advanced conditioner like the CTEK 800 that switches between charging, maintenance mode and off to avoid cooking the battery www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk/ProductInformation/Batte...m
I've just had my 1996 1.4 (petrol) Mk3 VW Golf serviced and MOT'd, during which the rear exhaust box (silencer) had to be replaced. Could someone in the know inform me how long this procedure should take. Many thanks. Read more
The new showroom is an absolutely enormous
structure which must be about 5 or 6 storeys high.
Most of this is empty space surrounded by glass.
Come to think of it, isn't that a metaphor for
the UK economy these days?
Yep thats about right - i work for a Toyota dealer and whilst our current showroom isn't the flashiest in the world there nowt really wrong with it. Toyota have decided we need to go over to "retail concept" and so any time soon we'll be having a new showroom.
We'll still do exactly the same stuff in the new one but it will look sparkly and new.
Ever since I got my punto mk1 16v there has been a tapping sound from the engine. Initially I was told by a mechanic this was from worn valve guides and/or cams.
Though I no longer think that?s the problem...
I decided to do an oil change so I bought some Castrol 10w40 and some engine flush... I put the engine flush in and within 10 mins the sound was gone!! I changed the oil and all was great. (About 1 month ago)
Yesterday the sound came back... so I went to do the same... oil flush in but the sound didn?t disappear... so I flushed the engine with a 50/50 mix of petrol/oil just to get rid of any deposits. This still didn?t make a difference... so I filled up with 10w40 again and the noise had gone... briefly, it came back 5 mins later.
I?m stuck to what it could be?? The only things I can think of is the pump isn?t working properly or the oil isn?t getting to the top of the engine??
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance!! Read more
I would go for tappets..Cam noise would stay with or without oil change.Should be available from M/D.price I cannot say.would suggest chech out prices between M/D and other suppliers

I have noticed that when I start my VW BORA PD Sport 130BHP from cold that the engine rocks for a while until the car warms up. From then the rocking disappears. The performance of the car is not affected by this. I took the car in to an independant VW specialist who told me injectors were at fault and that I had too options:
1) replace the injectors at a cost of ~£2000
2) Have them taken out stripped - cleaned and rebuilt at a cost of £900
Neither of these options seemed good to me - i also got the spiel about how if i ignored the problem it would be detrimental to the car
I then took it into VW who who did an assessment and even did a comparison with another bora of similar age and miles. They said they could not find anything wrong with it. Told me to comeback once a problem developed.
So either VW are wrong or the specialust was lying ********
So was wondering if anyone else have similar problems with their Bora from cold start?

Seems to be a characteristic of this particular engine - I had an '02 SEAT Ibiza with the TDI 130 engine, which did this intermittently, although it was usually when the engine was warm - you'd pop the bonnet up and the whole block would be wobbling from side to side. I found that blipping the throttle enough to take revs up to 2,000 usually made it go away. I did wonder if the ECU was messing around slightly, although it ran fine otherwise and the dealer couldn't find a fault.
I'm looking for a medium sized estate with auto box. They're doing some cheap lease deals on these, but with only 125hp and auto box, are they any good? 125hp sounds a bit weeny to me! Read more
Subarus are very 'exotic' in comparison to the rest of the car market as they all have AWD and a Boxer engine.
The only other company who uses the same philosohy is Porsche. All their cars are slight variations of one model making them almost faultless.
Sitting in a jam on a french motorway, as many cars passed quicker than me (typical) I wondered why the french manufacturers have not entered the 4x4 market. OK, in the 80's you could get a 4x4 405 and BX; and Renault did the Scenic RX4 but they've never done a big 4x4.
Given Citroen's experience of hydaulic suspension you would think they would be well placed to enter this market. And as Renault and Nissan are joined (or taken over?), Renault could re-badge a Nissan 4x4 as a quick solution. If a Renault Trafic can be a Nissan Primastar, why can't a Nissan Terrano be a Renault? Sounds nasty! Anyway, my 2CV comment was made as a laugh and not to be taken too seriously? The French Firebrigade here in Montpellier run around in Land Rovers and probably wouldn't be seen dead in Citroen's. I ran a couple of 2CV's and honestly made it through the Alpes in heavy snow right to the top of our Ski station. I couldn't afford the snow chains at the time (not that they would fit anyway) and do remember leaving behind quite a few 'exotica' at the time on the road side (mostly BM'S and Mercedes. The DS was also a very good rally car....but, before I say anymore i'm going to verify that on a friends website......I get the feeling Hawkeye knows a quite a bit about Citroens? Tell us more.....

It could have been worse, at least Fiat don't go as low as other car companies that have body parts wiggling about.
They seem to be learning with adverts as they have copied Kia voice for the new panda 4x4.
