Back along, on a VAG Turbo thread, someone posted an excellent url pointing towards a webpage that had an animation of a Garrett VNT turbo in action, in particular the variable vanes moving.
I cannot get ANY results using a forum search, can anybody help me?
Mods - Please delete this post when I have got an answer, tonight.

For reasons that I will not explain, but that I would ask you to accept on faith, this thread has been removed.

Just read an interesting article in Autoexpress about the development of the C4 fixed hub steering wheel in which they mentioned that Citroen first used it on a C4 of 1928 (took a long time to get the C4 on the market!!) but it brought to mind the steering wheels of vintage cars with various controls such as advance and retard etc and I can't picture them rotating either. First car I owned was a Sunbeam Alpine (1949 model, 20 yrs old when I bought it!) and it had two small chromed levers coming from the steering wheel boss - one for indicators (semaphore) and one for dip/main beam. I can't picture them rotating with steering either. So, is the fixed hub something that used to be very common and has been reinvented, or is my memory playing tricks. (As it increasingly seems to!!)

Forgot ignition advance and retard. Mixture more probably on dash (not awake yet!).
Hi
My Ford Mondeo - 2:0 - 5 door, Ghia - ownned from new - 46k on the clock has serious judder on jentle/hard braking - when I was returning from Leeds on Saturday - it only does this at over 70 mph. The judder came via the steering wheel.
The car has not has an accident, recently passed it mot, had front pads replaced at 42k - shoes still them same - fluid still the same - car registered in sept 1999.
I'm the only driver - drives straight - did not judder before, even at speeds well in excess of 70mph.
All help appreciated!!
Thanks

Change your front brake pads and discs.
I am wondering if anyone can help. I have an R ree Peugeot 106 with starting problems. Heae this is not unusual!!....
I will try and expalin what has been happening. A couple of months ago I had problems with it not starting... only an intermitant problem. Took it to the garage and they said that it needed a new coil pack... this seemed to solve the problem for a couple of weeks. The problem then re-appeared... took it back to the garage and they told me it was due to the throttle cable needing to be slackened.... again car seemed to start first time for a while. Last week the problem started again.... we found however that if we got in the car re-locked and unlocked the car it would start..... previously when this had been happening we could hear the engine turning over. Today however when i tried to start the car in my usual manner I got nothing..... engine did not try to turn over.... all of the lights on the dashboard panel are still coming on.... power getting to lights etc...... can anybody help.... Peugeot are telling me it is the strater motor.... does this sound likely???

I think I have solved my "damp start" problem. After the car failed to start on Saturday, I unplugged a connector to the Engine Management system (under bonnet, drivers side) and found the contacts slightly damp - dried off, re-connected, and car started perfectly, and ran fine!
I had my Passat serviced the other day and they lent me a new Polo for the day.
First impressions were that it looked better quality than my wife's Punto and a bit bigger. When I actually drove the thing though, the engine noise intrusion was shocking. Much noisier than the Punto. I'm not sure what engine it had but I would guess similar to the Fiat i.e. 1.2 (or less maybe).
It felt more stable on the road but I was glad to get the thing returnd to be honest. I find my wife's Fiat far more bearable.
Are they all this noisy?

Don't know anything about the Polo, but I had a Punto for a hire car in early 2002 and was surprised at just how quiet the engine was. So maybe it's not that Polo is noisy, but that Punto is quiet.
My nomination is the M60 J18 anticlockwise off the M60 onto east bound M62. Traffic lights on an inter-motorway inter-change and very little advance warning i.e. one sign too close to the lights - or did I miss something earlier. Most inter-motorway inter-changes have dedicated slip roads where you merge with other traffic. (Cue several dozen instances proving the opposite.) M60/62 you have to be ready to come to a halt - fine if you're a regular user of this junction. My first use of this junction so was rather surprised to have to stop (:-o IMHO this junction needs either more advance signage and/or reduced speed limit on the M60 exit slip. Any other suggestions for badly designed junctions?? Read more
I've recently moved to Swindon and encountered the Magic Roundabout a couple of times. After discussions with locals it seems that the way to navigate it is to simply point the car towards the exit you want and drive straight across.......it might help if you shut your eyes whilst doing so.
Was pootling along behind a MX5 on the way to work, thinking what a nice little car it was except for the bump in the boot lid which contains the high level brake light but also spoils (IMHO) the line of the boot. It then dawned on me that the "high level" light was only about 2 inches higher than the ordinary brake lights and wouldn't be any more visible than them in a queue of traffic. By now my brain was working at full efficiency so I wondered why it was there? Is it a legal requirement now? Should it be a certain height? If not, what's the point?
It was only when I got home this evening that I realised that on SWMBO's Xantia the light is also on the boot lid, albeit about 6 ins higher than the ordinary ones. Are they purely decorative in these cases? Any other examples?

It was my understanding that centre brake lights were required in the US following a study involving almost all of the taxis in Washington DC.
This showed that rear end accidents caused by the vehicle two or more cars behind the first car in the queue was reduced significantly. However that was about 20 years ago and may not have been replicated elsewhere.
I too think that centre brakelights should be much higher than the top of the boot lid and are better probably at the base of the rear screen.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
My three points have expired. Will I get a clean paper licence from DVLA, do I have to apply for one, or what? Read more
car should be registered where it spends most of its time, not necessarily where u spend most of the time, same for insurance
licence i think only needs to ba an address through which u can be contacted, unless its changed recently
quite usual to have car and licence showing different addresses, u'd be surprized how many people have multiple houses/flats, one car is scotland another in london or similar
Hi, my 306 Meridian HDI front exhaust has come apart right at where the pipe is welded to the Cat. I have been quoted £250 to replace it. I have been reading on the net that some owners have just not bothered to replace the cat on diesels and have fitted a straight through pipe instead from the 'non cat models'. Apparently, a cat is not really needed?
My questions are... if I do this too, will it still pass the MOT emissions test? And will it be classed as a modified car for insurance purposes? What about performance, will this increase, decrease? And what affect on MPG?
What does this cat actually do (apart from cost us all lots of money when it goes)??
Is this a good idea, leaving the cat off?
Cheers Read more
Cheers Paul. Well was still debating fitting a 'non cat' front pipe until I managed to find a guy who says he can weld it for £25-£30. Going to take it to him tomorrow. Will let you lot know how successful this turns out to be. If the weld fails I will try to get a garage to fit a non cat pipe. But I suspect that will be difficult. Its been a big enough job finding a garage that will weld it...they all want me to buy a nice expensive cat!
Can I just say what an excellent forum and website this is.....loads of really helpful knowledgable people on here.
Can't believe I haven't found this earlier
Cheers guys

Many thanks, kind Sir.
