Caught sight of one last night, and couldn't help thinking the latter....

No doubt they appeal to some - maybe it depends on the 'base' vehicle being stretched ('de-based'???). Read more

What connotations does the swear filter see in connotations? (or was
there a typo?)

Typo methinks. Lose and "n" and add an "o"

When I was a kid I used to see a Lister Jaguar XJ-S registration number A502 OFO on my way to college in Hereford.

Has anyone any idea on how I can legally trace it?

I have tried the club and club website without luck.

My interest in the car was rekindled when I bought an old car magazine at a car boot sale in the summer and found it was a roadtest vehicle in the eighties.

Any help greatfully appreciated. Read more

Why is it that the AA website says that its a Jaguar XJS but the RAC website says that the car does not exist.
Is the RAC website updated more regularly and do they remove cars from their database that have been scrapped?

Retro

A warning for anyone thinking of buying the iconic original flared arch UR Quattro.

I am a club member and front wings are unobtainable for at least the near future to middle future (i.e. middle of next year possibly??!). No manufacturer has been found as yet and the factory have none.

This also applies to WR cylinder heads.

Goodness knows what other parts are just rare.

As they say, buyer beware. Read more

I'm needing to remove the steering wheel to replace the light stalk. The car (95 TD Escort) is fitted with an airbag. The manual says to disconnect the battery, cover the leads to stop the possibilty of them arcing. And thats it!!!
Is this right or is there anything else to watch out for? I don't fancy the airbag going off in my face!!!
Cheers

There is definitely no need to remove airbag or steering wheel to replace indicator/wiper stalk.Remove top plastic column cover(2 screws) then 1 screw holds down switch assy, then lift up ,disconnect 2 plug connectors.

There no longer seems to be a link from Telegraph Motoring to the Back Room. Are Telegraph readers to be considered down-market?

Further to my earlier post (in IHAQ vol 60), now going to book up one of these. Room for family of 4 is £44.95, but does anyone who use these places regularly know of any discount codes or anything that would be available?

I just want to pay as little as possible (Scotsman) to have the pleasure of visiting my in-laws :( Read more

but this time, an open invite to anyone who wishes to come and have a look and see what all the fuss is about

there will be all sorts turning up at power engineerings premises in uxbridge this saturday www.powerengineering.co.uk/acatalog/aboutus.htm
to have a rolling road day
this will involve a few sierra owners getting together to see how much power their cars produce
one example is around 280 bhp and does 0-60 in 4.6 seconds so it's not slow, and at the other end of the scale there may be some people who's cars are just normal and will make book figures
if you want to know what makes sierra owners tick, then come and have a look for yourselves, maybe spending over the odds on a car won't seem like a bad proposition now :)

any sierra enthusiasts, have you seen the Mk1 2.0i GLS for sale on Ebay at the moment

I remember seeing one of these as a child about 10 years ago, and never since.

Trade Sales are selling Espaces for £12499.

What's the catch ? Read more

They're second hand ex-rentals with between 10k and 17k on the clock. Probably we're talking about 03 plate cars here. They're also in fairly grim grey/beige/blue semi-organic, pebbles on the beach colours - but then so are most Espaces. Still not a bad price.

(NB Trade Sales never actually state the car's age on their ads.)

Can anyone tell me how to drain the cooling system on an astra arctic hatch (R reg)
Thanks in advance Read more

Dynamic Dave

There is no bottom hose on the rad or drain plug.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a drain plug, but there *must* be a hose that connects from the bottom of the radiator to the engine. Just undo that one at the radiator end.
How do I get it all out?

You won't get it all out, but you'll certainly get the majority of it out.

Has anyone any experience of buying from Motorpoint? They have what appear to be some good deals at present. Read more

The "Ford" in Fords of Winsford is the surname of the family which owns the company - I've been with people several times who have bought cars there and was impressed all round.

It offers a giant, well organised and laid out vehicles' display area and features a wide range of marques.

However, part exchange prices offered reflect the lower prices charged for vehicles on sale.

Re Motorpoint - it was the company featured in a multi-part series shown on TV about a year ago and, as far as I'm concerned, presented a number of reasons why I wouldn't be too inclined to deal with it....:-))

Carcraft is a firm that has had somewhat dubious TV exposure on consumer relations programes, although it claims to have cleaned up its act ("We've listened to what our customers want etc....")
