Received an interesting package through the post on Saturday. A study cardboard box, not much bigger than a video cassette. Audi stamped on it. Opened it to find a reply paid card to ask for more info on the new A4, a USB memory stick, a USB port extender cable and a USB driver CD for those not operating windows XP.
Plugged the USB stick into the PC and it was a movie of the new A4 plus some other info. Deleted the movie and I know have a nice 62mb USB memory stick plus USB port cable.
How much did that cost to send out? I no longer own an Audi, in fact I had a bad fall-out with the Audi dealer when both my new Audi's went wrong.

Ta, Scunner. Will follow your advise and try myself. (Otherwise I'd have to admit I can't change a bulb!) Redser
Can someone explain why my rear wheels get dirty faster than the fronts, despite the fact that most of the braking (and thus dirt fallout) takes place at the front? Admittedly much of the rear dirt seems to be road muck, but even so .. Read more

I have only experienced Green Stuff pads once (on a track-day MX5) and have never before seen a car with brake dust down the side up to the middle of the doors! I know other people swear thay get less dust with GS pads, but my experience is completely different.
My first post into the BR, but have been reading for a while - v useful and informative stuff!!
Am trying to arrange a test drive of an A3 sportback. Probably as a company car purchase, although may go private if the numbers stack up.
How hard can it be for my Audi dealer to find me a car to test?? Been waiting several weeks now. Had a date for this weekend, but just received a call saying the car they had lined up has just been sold!! May now have to wait even longer.
Any advice? I've heard that for some manufacturers you can go direct to them for test drives. Anyone know if you can do this with Audi?
Cheers

Both Reading Audi and Aston Green Audi in Slough were extremely helpful and obliging with test drives (A4 Avant 2.5 in my case). Aston Green gave me a better deal - ring their business manager Stuart Crayford (01753 696 100), who was excellent.
Hi folks,
Just bought a Pug 406 Executive (2.0i petrol), lovely drive (esp. when compared to the previous N/96 Clio 1.9D).
Now, the stereo...
Sounds fine, looks good, CD multichanger in the boot, tape & radio in the front.
But, I've always had a minidisc player in the Clio, and have about 60 mds prepared ready for the car, as opposed to having 0 tapes (or a tape deck on which to produce them, even if i could deal with the quality issues), and I wouldn't feel overly comfortable leaving lots of CDs original CDs (quick test, it doesn't like to play CD-Rs, at least not those I produced on my laptop last night) in the car (as (a) wouldn't be able to play them in the house (b) would worry about theft).
Ideally, i'd like to replace the stereo with a minidisc header unit, keeping the multichanger in the boot to run from it.
BUT, this raises a few questions:
* The Pug stereo is an abnormal shape/size, my guess is behind it there is a more plan facia and standard sized stereo slot, or else a bit of placcy the right shape, but with a normal sized slot, could be obtained from a dealer etc? Can anyone confirm / deny before I pop the old unit out to see?
* The current stereo does all its display on the screen alongside the trip computer, etc, which is kinda nice. Any way to have another stereo display up here? (guessing not). What happens to all that space if the old stereo is gone? does it look ok? guessing just blank?
* In the past i've seen adapters for the original fitment steering column remotes for controlling an after-market stereo (for example, a friends astra coupe standard controls controlling a sony MD deck rather than the original CD deck). Does anyone know if there is one available for the 406?
* Or finally, does anyone know if there is a replacement original equipment MD deck, which would obviously solve all of the above problems, though doubtless at higher cost?
Thanks folks!

I have a 98S Exec and the CD changer plays CDRs just fine... actually only bit of the car that isn't broken following its recent cam belt failure. Have you tried using a lens-cleaner CD? And you're definitely using CDRs not CDRWs (very few audio players will play these) which you've tested work OK in another audio player? Just a thought.
Good morning everyone,
I have recently started trading part time as I enjoy the experience of buying/selling and naturally I am trying to supplement my full time income... have made a few mistakes but I am learning and enjoying it as well.
I do have a query regarding the road tax though.... how can I get a car taxed without having my name on the V5. I have traders insurance (naturally) which states I am insured for any vehicle but my understanding is that you need the logbook in your name? Is there anyway around this?
I look forward to your responses,

yep thats what we do - you buy a car from us and prior to delivery give us the insurance certificate so we can tax it on your behalf.
Hi.
My wife has a problem with the wear wiper on her S reg Fiesta.
When the wiper is put to the on position, the arm moves as normal but the wiper continues past its normal stopping position and dangles down by the number plate.
So, the motor seems to be working OK so what should stop the wipe arm from 'drooping'? The arm is held on by a nut and a washer, and I think the washer is looking rusty and deformed so could this be the problem?
As you can see, I am not very competent on these matters!
Cheers.

It sounds like the wiper arm has slipped on the splines of the motor shaft. Slacken off the nut, re-allign the arm into the correct position and do the nut back up tight. The washer could be a locking washer - sometimes these can be crinkley or star shaped - which could explain the deformed appearance.
Also from this weeks Spectator, a fine magazine that will be made all the better by Mr. Johnsons departure (you heard it here first).
Apparently it is ILLEGAL to have a For Sale sign in the window of your car, unless the car is NOT on the public highway (such as when it is on your dricve).
To sell goods on the public highway you have to have a street traders licence. So they did this guy for having a For Sale sign in the window of his car and impounded it for the year it took the case to get to the magistrates court.
The guy got a small fine but the local authority said he couldn't have the car back until he paid the storage fees which came to several times what the car was worth so the car will likely end up crushed.
Meanwhile the local drug gangs are fighting a turf war outside your window. The lunatics have taken over the asylum and the Council chamber near you. Read more
