Hello,
I wonder if anyone has the experience to help me. I have recently had new front brake disks and pads allround fitted to my 53 plate laguna 1.9dci, as the pads warped after 40k and less than 50% max wear. (Renault UK wouldn't replace them under warranty, but thats a different story...) Anyway, when I drove the car away from the dealers, the brakes just didn't seem to have the bite that they had before. I had noticed that copper slip had been applied and that of course the discs and pads would need to bed. 1500 miles later the brakes are as vauge as ever. As it happens my wife's SLK had exactly the same work done to it, and her brakes are sharper than before. Any ideas why my brakes aren't just as good? Read more

Thanks for that RF, I am very impressed with the performance so far so if it has still to "get really going" then I look forward to it.
I am not a fast driver but the torque it has to overtake on motorway etc is great.
Hoping to get a longer run next month, down to Stone and back so may get a better reading on the mpg front then.
There has been some discussion a year or so ago, but the unanswered question remains "HOW CAN YOU GET THE ***** STUFF OFF??" I tried it and it works fine in moderate or heavier rain, when I'm doing 45 or more. In lighter rain or slow speeds I still need the wipers. The problem is that the water repellant property = grease attractant, and I can only get a couple of days between screen cleanings

Toothpaste - very mild abrasive, so very good at taking off surface grime without affecting glass.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
What do insurance companies mean by saying that they're going to split a claim 50/50?
Does it mean that each person pays for their own damage, or does it mean that the TOTAL cost is split evenly between both parties? Read more
Its also a good way for the insurance companies to get rid of 2 peoples NCD instead of 1!
Hey everyone,
I have a problem with my little old peugeot 205, its not a GTI or a diesel, cant find the documents but it is a D reg 1 litre petrol engine.
I think there are two problems:
1] it does not like the wet - at all! if i drive over a puddle, it will sound like its drowning, then cut out and not start for at least an hour - think this is the distributor cap - but i dont understand this as I have had this replaced since the problems started and it is still happening, I was told to stick a plastic bag over it to try and see if that stops it, do you agree?
2] also, recently more than late, the car wont start or run very well, if i put my foot down it splutters like mad, sometimes backfires and then most often cuts out.
it sounds like the enigne is flooded? i was told by my dad this may be a timing problem?
I need some advice on how I can fix this myself, I'm getting a haynes 205 manual so i will have an idea of what bit is where.
do i need to replace parts or just re-allign things?
any advice appreciated, thanks in advance,

Yes, those are the plug leads I meant. But before buying anything at all, identify the real reason for the problem - it could be all sorts of things. I doubt that just driving through a puddle would soak the plug leads, which lie across the top of the engine, at least on post-87 cars. You need to know whether yours has the early X-series engine (chain-driven) or the later TU one with a cambelt. Consult a local indie garage if you can't sort it 'in the family'.
My 1.4 XS pug is not starting first time.
Starter motor is working and fuel is definately getting to the engine so the pump is ok. Ive read elsewhere that it may be something to do with the ?TDC sensor?. The other thing is that the revs go crazy from time to time are these problems connected?

Water /Steam is flowing out into the car interior and flushing/rad weld has not sealed the leak. How difficult is replacement and where is the best/ cheapest place to get one. Currently I have bypassed it with a bit of copper pipe, but don't fancy leaving it that way as winter temperatures will soon be here!

It might be worth 'phoning Autovaux rather than using their website ordering process. I find their website a bit off-putting although they are quite helpful. I see Cav radiators are "phone for price" anyway.
If the National Audit Office are so good at telling the Highways Authority how to do their jobs why don't they just get on with it.
I don't know if many backroomers have used this free service from the AA. To describe briefly: you can either search on the website or have an e-mail sent to you to inform you of the lowest fuel prices in your area, with individual filling stations named.
I have just received an e-mail telling me the service is to close. Ironically, only yesterday I acted on information received to save myself around £1 on a tank of Shell diesel.
Maybe if they get enough messages of protest the AA will reconsider. Read more
I signed up a week ago. Today I received a mail saying
"We have, therefore, decided to stop the Petrolbusters onlineService from December 9th this year"
Ah well...never mind
Can anyone tell me when/if the coolant should be changed in a C5? The maintenance schedule is not easy to understand and I have yet to find any mention of actually changing the coolant in this car.
I checked the coolant level recently and, whilst the level is OK, the colour is a dirty brown, which doesn't look right to me. The car is just over 3 years old. Read more
Machila - sorry, should read Machika. As a fellow Cit defender I should be familiar with your name!!

RF - I musu say that the brakes on my 51 Privilege Tourer diesel felt the same throughout the 37k miles I did on it - I found them excellent (the handbrake cable came adrift twice though, but that's another story...)
