volvoman

Just returned from a very pleasant riving lesson with Mrs V. (the first for about 3 months) and whilst I was dutifully waiting outside a shop 'Maureen' happened by. The road in question was a narrow side road with cars parked both sides and the odd 1.5-2 car length spaces in between. Traffic was steady if not heavy but there was only enough width to accommodate vehciles from one direction at a time.
Maureen appeared in a Silver Cavalier and rather than park about 100 yeard further back up the road where there was plenty of space she tried to park in one of the gaps. What followed was both comedic and infuriating - a series of dodgy manoeuvres each doomed to failure from the outset and resulting in NS front wheel on the kerb and the rear of the car sticking out at an angle and blocking the road. The queue of traffic grew longer as the tempers of the other drivers grew shorter.

'Maureen' however was of course blissfully unaware of any of this and carried on regardless causing quite serious disruption and (to me at least) a degree of merriment. After about 10 minutes and several failed attempts she decided to park on the opposite side of the road and proceeded to block the cars coming from that direction whislt she once again tried to get both ends of her car the same distance from the pavement whilst at the same time being less than 2 feet of it.

I know this subject comes up periodically but how on earth do people like that EVER pass their test????? Read more

They only need to get it right once. Maybe was lucky.

Perhaps "lucky" enough not to be tested in that skill:
AIUI, it's the testers choice of one of the following - reversing around a corner, parallel park, or "three point turn".

Nicole, what kind of car is it? Surely its not that unique? Let the backroom know and we can all do a search of our local garages and probably find one closer to you.

(Apart from me that is - I am in Scotland!)

Question Pug 306 fogs
P 2501

Hello all,

I have a front fog light out on my 1997 peugeot 306 xtdt. I have had a look at how to replace it but there seems to be no way to get at the actual bulb.Does anyone have any experience of replacing these? The manual just says "consult Local Peugeot dealer" No thanks!

It is the mark I version with the retangular recessed fog light.

Thanks in advance Read more

I like the indicators

Ditto.

I can't get used to swapping over to a car with the traditional set up. I keep tapping the stalk gently expecting the indicators to give 3 flashes and then self cancel.

Hi,

A couple of young guys at work intend travelling from Ireland to the UK for a few days, and are intending economising on accommodation by sleeping overnight in their car (separate sleeping bags, I understand!).

I guess they're young enough to cope with the discomfort (I've only done this once - many years ago), but I was wondering if they're likely to run into trouble with the 'boys in blue'.

Does anyone know what the legal position is regarding sleeping overnight in a car - does it depend on where it is parked?

Cheers. Read more

I thought we were encouraged to stop driving every so often, have a kip, recharge our 'batteries' and then drive on...

I think you worry too much! What are lay-bys for if you can't have a kip in one of them!?

Growler started me off with his comment on the pretentiousness of "Panther Black".

What should colours really be called? Here's a few - other suggestions eagerly awaited.

Bland Silver
Drug-dealer Black
Anonymous Grey
Tart Red
OAP Beige
Taxi White

and, of course, "utterly beautiful blue metallic"*

I remember about 5 years ago, I think it was Car magazine? had an article that said the BMW he was testing was Jewish Racing Gold. Ooops! what a furore that followed.

Heading home last night, I saw the most beautiful thing I've seen on the road for years. For obvious reasons I only got a very brief glimpse (and mostly of the back...) but I quite clearly saw that horse.

Looking it up this morning, it seems to be a 360 Spider. I'm smitten......

Now I know that if you have to ask the price you can't afford it, but any ideas how much? Would I have to sell my body, my house or my soul?

Anyone know tomorrow's lottery numbers?

I did, but they heard there had been a leak so they changed them.

It is amazing to see how quickly a website goes down when its unmoderated. I assume its schoolkids with nothing better to do but they decend on the website fill it full of garbage and within a couple of days all the 'normal' people have gone and it is just full of trolls insulting each other.

Two days ago a replacement exhaust was fitted to my wifes car. As I paid the bill the receptionist happened to mention that it was a \"corse sounding exhaust\". This was because it only had the cat and one box at the back. I couldn,t be bothered to mention that it was fine until it needed replaceing . I now wish to complain but before I have to listen to the \"it,ll quieten down with use story\" I really do not know how to complain. The exhaust has been fitted perfectly but the back box is very loud do I have to accept these replacements are louder than standard? Read more

Crinkly Dave is correct - you do get what you pay for. I've had cheap replacement exhausts that have sounded quite different (usually noisier) than the original equipment. I suppose they use thinner gauge steel and have a poorly arranged system of baffles in the silencer.
