Does anyone know of a competitive lender who will allow partial redemption of a car loan once I've got the cash from my current car? Read more
hi anyone know any companies that do a month policy or short term policy as i haven't managed to sell my old car, and cover from my old insurers runs out soon. cheers Read more
Your current Insurer will probably extend for a defined period but it won't be cheap in comparison to your annual premium. I've always gone down this route in the same situation but I know other Insurers will do short term policies although they used to be more 3 or 6 month policies.
Thinking of buying a trendline. Should we wait for the new shape, or pick up a bargain? Is it a bargain?

Has anyone experience of having the Ford MONDEO TDCi 13 Pin Electrical Kit for Trailer Coupling (ie tow bar electrics to enable a caravan to be towed)installed, in particular the wiring up of the 12v fridge circuit and the battery charging circuit. The accompanying Instruction Book only devotes one page to this subject and does not provide relays, wiring etc to enable these circuits to be connected. Ford Technical are hazy as to whether this will affect the car\'s Warranty or the car\'s reliability. My car was built 22.12.03 and purchased by me in last two weeks, I am the first registered owner. I now have the task of instructing the Dealership to wire up these circuits or not, the rest of the kit has already been installed. This seems to be a grey area.

If it's the Ford Kit then the warranty should be unaffected.
Given the complexity of modern car wiring (multiplexing etc) I would entrust this job to a Dealership workshop. You could end up with a lot of trouble...

Call me stupid if you will but I have a question that is probably soo darn obvious but
Wifes 1993 Metro (cue laughter), runs fine when rolling along, when stationary (ery?) engine runs a bit rough, has been known to cut out, have just noticed small holes appeared in silencer from corrosion.
Would I be correct in thinking this could be the cause of the problem, has been fine until past few days and have coincedentaly noticed exhaust blowing?
Cheers all

The SU KIF Carburettor as fitted to the Metro has a power valve diaphragm on the side - a very common failure....

Metallic green LHD car on UK plates.
Looked fabulous, a really interesting design which looks (to my eye) clean, modern and distinctive. Read more
>>Is there a new freelander out soon? I think I saw one on the A6 in Buxton on Tuesday afternoon, but it was partially covered in taped-on black 'boxes' and bulges to cover the outline and coachwork. Still looked like a freelander, though.
I wonder if this is the car which passed us on the Whaley Bridge to Macclesfield road on Monday morning about 07 45. It followed us quite demurely from Whaley through all of the blind stretches and bends, which did surprise me. At that time of the morning it is like a racetrack. At the first bit of clear road it was by like the wind.
I posted an earlier question re: autocarsource.com but no replies. So sorry to be boring.... but looking to buy a new car and the internet prices of course seem to be cheaper than going into a franchised dealer, and I have two more questions:
1) If a car has had two owners (i.e. the first resgistered to a UK dealer and then me) does this affect the re-sale value say in 3 years. Is this classed as UK car?
2) Has anyone bought on-line? If so, how did it go?
Actually that might have been 4 questions, sorry. Any advice welcome.
Thanks. Read more
Peterb - i work for inchcape toyota in burton on trent and do deal with Kevin over at ukcarbroker but i only started there earlier this year so doubtful it was me you dealt with.
The choice of colour is prone to fashion and as such is liable to be 'in' or 'out'.
Lots of advice that white is about as uncool and undesirable as it gets.Metallic is perceived as a good thing and it is not unusual to see rows of cars in varying shades of metallic silver in any car park.
Recently however, I have seen a few new white cars, Mercs, 5-Series BMW and Toyotas that, to my eyes, looked pretty good.
Some cars are colour sensitive I know, but the new Mazda 3 (as an example of this) that sat in the showroom in white looked superb.
Is it possible that in three year's time dealers will be saying: 'Metallic silver? Yes, we still do it but I would recommend a nice solid white for future residuals come trade in.' Read more
>>Me too, same reason. But the neighbours do think it funny>>
So do mine. In fact the bloke across the road, whose over 80, came out to me recently whilst washing my car and asked if I knew it was just about to rain?
I just said: "Of course!"
After leaving him somewhat baffled for a few moments I eventually explained the reason.
Now he does exactly the same with his car.
Does anyone have any ideas on uneven tickover and also seems 'jerky' at low speed, ie when stuck in traffic queues.
Replaced plugs, checked distributor/ht cables etc. Air filter ok.Bought replacement fuel filter but haven't found it yet.
Any ideas anyone please? Read more
Getting an Idle Speed Control Valve off Ebay and instead of over £98 there are some at about £20 (some new & some used with guarantees) Is the part number AC1027 correct ?
Replaced everything from the coil down and found valve is knackered !

unboggle my one-tracked? mind
Oooh, not one-tracked, just a bit depraved and too prone to letting mental images distort themselves :)

I agree with Vansboy, check Money saving expert. A lot of loans now use 'rule of 78' for assigning the interest charge over the period of the loan. In which case when you try and pay it off early you actually have more outstanding than you think. Money Saving Expert has a good explanation of 'rule of 78'.
