Obviously ellesmere Port has declared UDI since I was last up north.

Pugugly - Elesmere Port ain't the place it once was, for car building - & a few weekends ago, the Vauxhall sign, was removed, in Luton.
Despite promises from GM, that it waould stay - can't think why it should have remained, but certainly caused a bit of anger, on Radio local & the press, around here!

And don't IPC Vehicles build vans for Vauxhall & Renault in Luton? Whenever I travel up the M5 about 1 in 4 car transporters is loaded with Opel Astras from Ellesmere Port on the way for export.

Yes, correct on the above points. However GM are building a big extension to the Russelsheim plant (near Mainz, Germany) and it is only a matter of time before car production ceases in the UK.
The GM/Renault van deal is a different issue, but I suspect that its days may be numbered simply as a result of the Renault/Nissan tie-up.
