There appears to be a design flaw in the Yaris where rainwater runs down a few places on the body rather than draining off evenly. As mine is white, this leaves very noticable streaks and I was wondering if anyone can suggest a way to stop this happening. Even after waxing the car it still happens and while it does wipe off, it is a pain to have to do every few days during this lovely summer we are having at the moment... Read more
Hi all,
would it be possible to replace a small end con-rod shell bearing from the sump end of a CVH engine? My engine\'s making a bit of a knocking noise on tick over.
I\'m not sure what the throw of this engine type is, therefor not sure if the crank pin will provide sufficent clearance for this job. If not I guess it\'ll be a head removal and piston/conrod removal from the head side after taking the sump and conrod cap off.
If the latter, is it worth renewing the piston rings on one piston whilst I\'m at it?

Mostly the reason for big end/main bearing failure was because engine revs where taken to rev limit/ on RS most thought the oil pump would cope with continuous high revs/ mistake made was that without mods ie higher oil pressure pump.in continuous mode wasnt able to cope.starvation of oil supply caused big end failure/mains. Both will cause loss of oil pressure.what you mentioned didnt make this point. What I need to know is. is the noise from head or lower down ie cylinder block/bottom off block?. to answer your point if you take sump of after jacking up. and making safe.you will have full access.use a manual to be sure. But its unlikely one big end/main bearing will pack up

I have a budget of £6 - £8000 to spend on either a 3 or 5 series beemer.
It seems, to the un-educated eye, that you now get a lot of 2nd hand car for not a lot of money. The confusing things are the choice of models, where to buy from and also high mileage and less £'s or low mileage and more £'s
What's everyone's thoughts on models? What's the best value if I plan to hang onto the car for the next 5 - 6 years? Is it worth looking at auctions when private prices do seem to be very reasonable?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Read more
>>Madrid to Geneva in 14 hours with stops.>>
Not quite on the same level, but a few months back did almost 500 miles down to near Land's End in an S Class 320CDi in under seven hours, including refreshment breaks.
Biggest problem these days, as the majority are well aware, is the rash of speed cameras and the 320CDi is no slouch....:-)
A simple question that I hope somebody out there can answer.
How can I disconnect the permanently-on lights on my 'new' 940?
Her Indoors sees nothing wrong with them, but after 30 years of flashing my headlights at Volvos and saying "look, that silly prat has left his lights on" I do feel a bit of a hypocrite.
Saabs have a (marked) fuse that can be pulled out.
I can find no such thing in the Volvo.

If there is a small screw next to the headlight switch, if there is, turn it until your headlights turn off.
Hope this has helped
Could anyone please tell me the best way to look after the roof on a Three year old Alfa spider. I really don,t have a clue what to do for the best.

I assume it is a convetible? Try Renovo products. Not used them but they get rave reviews in the clasic car press and are original equipment from Saab. See www.partsforsaabs.com/default.php?cPath=1_17
I have had a Citroen Berlingo Multispace from new for three and a half years and it is the most practical and cheapest car I have ever owned and one of the few I can comfortably sit in (at 6’6” tall) and one of the even fewer that will take my similarly sized and fast growing children in the back seats. It has been basically trouble free but a little niggle has raised its head. The four rear windows hinge out rather than wind down and they have all started to leak water between the seal and the glass, resulting in a little trickle of water from the front corner of each window when it rains hard and long (like all this summer!). I have tried my two local Citroen service agents, neither of whom has met this problem before. One suggests rejuvenating the seal with silicon spray but not replacing the seal as this could well make it worse. The other recommends replacing the seals, about £65 each! I have to do something soon as it won’t go in my garage and the rain continues.
Why is my car leaking and not others and what should I have done to fix it?

Thanks for this idea, there is one outside my usual area, I'll try them. Funny how it hasn't rained since I took it in to the first agent.
I have a 3-year-old Vauxhaull Astra which has a rumbling sound which seems to be coming from the clutch area. It only seems to occur when on the move and it gets louder between 2000 - 3000 revs. I have had someone look at it but they couldn't find anything wrong. He didn't think it was anything major. Has anyone had the same problem or can advise. Thanks Read more
Thanks for the replies I will check these out
I'd love a C-Max TDCI-CVT. I wonder where I could get hold of the one that just sold?

Has the Mercedes A-class CVT system any "history" (good or bad)?
Pardon me if somebody has already covered this and I've missed it.
There was a very interesting article in the 'Independent' on Tuesday this week regarding the struggle of VAG to remain profitable. The German labour unions and the employers had a very cosy relationship for 50 years. But, the economic scene of things is changing and the cosy relationship seems to be over, at least on the surface.
VAG have announced that a pay freeze is necessary, at least for two years, and delicately refer to the alternative of moving production abroad. The unions have replied with a demand for a 4% across-the-board pay rise and job security for ten years. Shades of Red Robo!
VAG have a winning hand here, they could easily move production abroad ? don?t they already manufacture in Brazil, Spain, Czechoslovakia? Anybody know of any others?

Motoring please.
If it's clean then you take your chances. But 48k on a 15 year old car is NOT good - it sounds like it's been sitting doing nothing a lot of the time. The value lies in the MoT.
