I can't find the info at the moment but I just picked up a Dewalt brochure and it tells me that you can claim, with a Dewalt coupon, £1000 of pre specified power tools when you buy a Merc van. I can't remember which van you have to buy, but if you need a copy, get down to Jewsons, or contact Dewalt direct.

Last night SWMBO and I walked through the local council estate as a shaven headed hulk bid goodbye to a streaky blonde in a car. Streaky blonde gives it lots of welly and disappears out of sight with a great noise redolent of tearing calico and neglect. Lots of little boys (2 to 4 years old) playing in a gang are very impressed and run across, one earnestly called out to the hulk, "Daddy, what is it, a go cart?" Read more

OK, here's another sexist thread - which cars do the hotter ladies drive?
I think:
Fiesta - fun, but sensible girls
Pug 206 - good looking girls
Vectra - married!
Corsa - girls about town
Clio - little minxes
What do you reckon?

Hi All
Due to the temporary loss of use of my trusty Carlton I have bought a cheap Volvo 740 GL for towing. Seems to do the job reasonably well. But one problem. The left hand warning light on the dashboard stays on occasionally. It looks like an axle with short lines underneath, all enclosed in a circle. Does anyone know what this means? And how do I fix it
Thanking you all in advance

Hi All
Many thanks for all your help. Brake fluid level is fine. Seems it may be a dirty sensor on the ABS. When I can find the time I will clean them all. Currently putting a new quarter chassis on the Landy Series 111, so this is going to have to wait.
Thanks again all. What would we do without the backroom.

My late uncle owned a Y reg Rover SD1 3500 Mayfair.
The car is in fantastic condition but I need to sell it.
I have searched the net for the SD1 owners club but the page is unavailable.
Can anyone suggest an alternative route to sell the car?
Thanks

Just checked auction View link to our left - over 100 in there!!
But down to 23 with sensible miles.
How about 02 5 door 1.7 DTiLS 55k miles, average selling price in auction £5k. Thats in walsall centre 17 August.
Bet you'd get a HUGE discount on new, with a bit of haggle fun. Even current shape are below list now.

Hi All,
I'm seriously tempted by a Ferrari 348. Has anyone had any experience of driving one? I was looking as the (obviously cheaper) Porsche 968, which actually has quite similar performance (apart from top speed obviously -- but who cares that it can only do 150 and not 180!!!)
My question is, in terms of 2 factors - pure driving experience and reliability, how do the 2 compare?
I'd spend £15-17k on a 968 or max £28k on a 348.
My other question is more out of interest - does anyone have any experience of replica ferraris - especially MR2 based ones? I'd love to hear a few points of view.

Haven't driven the 348, but I have both the 328 and the 355. The 348 when it came out was greeted with general disappointment from the Motoring Press, especially regarding the handling. I seem to recall the model was pitched heavily towards the US market, with consequent softening of the ride etc. However do bear in mind that this judgment was largely in comparison with other Ferraris and in absolute terms the handling was probably quite acceptable. Because of its reputation the 348 is priced very cheaply relative to other similar cars (try getting a 355 below 50 grand), is newer than models like the 328 (where some parts are getting hard to obtain) and was also manufactured at a time when Ferrari's build quality improved greatly. If appearance (it's a good looking car) and charisma are important to you, and you don't anticipate driving it at ten-tenths, I think it's a great buy.
I do agree with the comments on running/servicing costs. You've really got to budget at least 2 grand a year. The 328 and I parted company when the ABS system went, the clutch needed replacing and the 25,000 service came up all at the same time. It needed 6 grand to fix it.
Has anyone used this? It's one of those miracle fuel & oil additive de-cokers with all the corresponding promises of reduced fuel consumption & increased power etc. £25 fo 12-months' worth.

If I Recall Correctly
Hi,
My neighbour was in an accident on Sunday (not his fault) and is concerned he might get his car written off. He has a 1989 VW Polo Countryman in pretty good condition. The damage isn't heavy at all (bumper pushed up against tailgate, crease underneath bumper, rear light broken) and I suspect he could repair it himself with a secondhand bumper, etc.
If the insurance company suspect it's not worth repairing (I'd value the car at £400-£500) can he 'buy it back' and repair it himself? If so, where does he stand when a) he tries to insure it again b) he comes to sell it or trade it?
Ideally he wants to keep the car for another 12 months at which point he will buy another one.
Any advice?
Cheers,
John Read more
Thanks to all who replied... I'll pass this onto my neighbour at the week.....
