Does anyone have information on companies offering this service? Read more
Hi
Does anybody know how long it takes to replace a driving licence? spent most of last night looking for mine and i'm going away at the end of the month. Can you turn up and wait like passports or is their varying levels of speed depending on how much you pay?
I know i'll find it right after spending a day in swansea(?) or spending a fortune on quick replacements but i dont want to risk that
thanks

And you can't just turn up at the passport offcie anymore.
Long wait for an emergency appointment.
My sons 306 (1994) has the factory fitted alarm immobiliser. can anyone tell me where the alarm siren is and how to get to it cos it doesnt work, when its activated the headlights flash but no sounder. Read more
It would be far cheaper to get a new alarm then try to fix the brilliant one Peugeot fitted at the factory! lol
Passed a road sign today - an arrow with hand painted "Psychic Fair Today" - made me laugh anyway. Read more

Can anyone help?
I have a perisiting problem with my X-plate 1.4LX Pug. When accelerating there is a whistling/screeching sound from the engine region. This stops if I take my foot of the accelerator. So far, I have had the tensioner changed and some work done on the manifold - these did not solve the problem.
When travelling on the motorway, there is hardly any acceleration from 50mph onwards and is virtually nil above 70mph. The whistling/screeching noise is very much louder at higher speeds and the power rapidly drops on inclines or when accelerating above 70mph.
Any ideas what this could be?...someone suggested the catalytic converter but my mechanic said this wasn't the cause.

To put it simply.exhaust is designed to help pull the exhaust gases away from from the bore`s.partial restriction prevents this from happening and the exhaust gases remain in the bore preventing complete combustion.so loss of power.collapsed cat can do this.as an example if you put a rag in the exhaust pipe totaly blocking it.engine will stall.partial blockage may not stall it.but performance will be restricted.

Depends on the previous owner is. If it\'s the one owner from new that\'s kept it immaculate he might want £2000 for it.
Or if it\'s someone who bought it for a cheap car to ride around in until the tax ran out and he\'s lost the service history you would probably buy it for much much less.
A certain classic car publication values cars between £1350 for an \"excellent\" example to £500 for something with an mot needing tidying up. £1750 is their top money for the 3500\'s. Been some tidy looking Sd1\'s on e-bay that don\'t make anything like that much.
Very early series 1 cars seem to be the most sought after.
Seen a 1978 2600 model with 11,000 miles, manual g/b advertised for £3,650 (Car dealer price).

I had two of these, a 2000 C reg and a 3.5 A reg.
The 2 litre was much more practical, loads of space very comfy and pretty reliable. Parts cheap and so forth.
The V8 goes well but is so thirsty that it makes it unpractical for every day use.
Avoid the 2300 and 2600. A manual 2000 isn't the fastest but it's ok, biggest problems are rust and eletrical.
I hardly ever see them now.
BIL has Suzuki.when you press the horn button with ign/off it works.ignition on horn wont work.Feeds to both horns are 12v+ ie both wires ign on or off.cant find a relay any one any ideas.cannot find a manual for it anywhere.thanks for any replies.

On the steering column under the bonnet by the bulkhead you will see the flexible joint, its made of rubber so earth circuit is made by small cable, its bolted to the joint ie one connecter to upper column, other end of cable to lower column making the circuit
I was told its a common fault on this motor which appears to be true.
I did wonder!! especially after his second post.
Now that there is a growth industry in out-scamming the Nigerian scammers. It occured to me that a few hundred earnest enquiries, that all produced no custom, might turn the tables.
Not that HJ could possibly condone such activities!! Read more
Hi Honest John
I was the person who posted this message. It was a genuine enquiry and I would be happy to discuss the matter with you.
My name is Peter O\'Shea and I have nothing to do with the company which runs the warranty company.
I am happy to give you a contact telephone number if you wish to discuss.
Looking at what they cover in their policy means nothing to someone like me with a basic understanding of car mechanics. A £10.000 investment in a car is a huge amount for me and I need to know whether this waranty will protect my investment.
as you may have seen im in the market for a newer car , it was previously a choice between a new style Vectra or the C5 , both diesel. Ive been looking around and came across a Peugeot 406 2004 model that has sat-nav . Is this a free to use gizmo on the car or does one have to pay each year to make it work ? Any advice on this thread please ? Oh its a Diesel hdi 90 , should I really have the 110 ? Read more
So it will actually find streets in any Town ? Ideal
for a taxi driver who is not sure of the area
?
I had it for a year and I don't think it ever failed to list an address. It would probably be better for the use you described than it was for me - on major journeys it sometimes tried to take strange routes (cutting the corner off the M5 South /M42 East junction, for example).
I have made a stupid mistake trying to drain the gear box oil on a 1999 Fiesta 1.25LX. Could find no drain plug where it was meant to be according to Haynes so undid a likely looking size 10 Torx bolt. Only a little oil came out and now have lost 5th gear.
Obviously a big error, but is it safe still to use the car without 5th gear and how expensive is the repair going to be?
Seem to remember somebody did something similar to a Polo on a previous thread. Cannot believe what an idiot I've been! Read more
Just so you know, and it's being pedantic but '99 is a Mark 4. Only saying in case it differs from mark 3 to 4.

See my earlier post about a retro-fitted cruise control. Ultimate design's engineers phoned and guided me to diagnose the problem: a snapped length of ball chain connecting the servo unit of the c/control to the throttle. Apparently the lining ball chain as supplied is just too weak, and needs a stronger replacement. Shall get it fixed in due course.
Faith shaken. By and large it works ok, but is pricey. Useful for a campervan.
